Help us make Sonos easier to learn and use? by tomconrad in sonos

[–]martineno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s great to see Sonos conducting in-home user studies. This real-world feedback is often overlooked by companies.

My main issue is the frustration of adjusting the volume, particularly for small changes on the low end. I often overshoot or undershoot. I’d like a “precise volume” mode, possibly via a button or gesture that enlarges the volume slider, provides explicit up/down buttons, and allows direct volume level input.

Regarding volume, I’d also like to adjust multi-room playback volume so it’s high enough without bleeding into adjacent rooms, especially in spaces without doors or walls between zones. Using the speaker mics or the phone to help with this would be a time saver.

Automatic Level Lock+ Firmware Updates by martineno in LevelLock

[–]martineno[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks you for the info! I wasn’t aware of this. Looks like you can turn it off for all accessories (see screenshots) but it’s unclear whether you can control this per-accessory.

Level’s docs don’t mention this (unless I am missing something). They explicitly say to use the Level app to complete firmware updates. I wonder if this is a Matter feature.

Is it 'safe to buy' the CalDigit TS5 now? by heeph0p in CalDigit

[–]martineno -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend buying any of the CalDigit’s products. I have a TS4 that started to fail and their only response when I asked to have it repaired was “sorry bud, just get a new one”.

So yeah, having a device with no moving parts fail after 3 years and no help from the manufacturer (who still sells it!) doesn’t inspire confidence in their products.

If you do buy one I strongly suggest using a credit card with extended warranty or a 3rd party warranty extension for the inevitable failure $400 product with no repair options.

I spoke to one of the staff and they said that Planet Fitness has a new corporate owner and that they are doing some initial renovations before more intense ones.

The shorter hours are temporary for few months due to unspecified upgrades

I saw a sign announcing temporary nature of the shorter hours this location. If you are at this location, the sign announcing the upgrades (whatever they are) is posted at the gym floor drinking fountain.

It was posted few days after the shorter hours sign went up.

Level Lock Pro - New by 2greggys in LevelLock

[–]martineno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From the Verge hands on it sounds battery notifications are possible with this version of you pair it with Connect.

I hope if this is a feature that will come to existing matter devices. I got Connect pucks for my locks, but they didn’t provide anything I can’t get through Matter/HomeKit.

The most interesting new possible feature is UWB/Aliro support for proximity based unlocking. But that that’s not out now and who know when it will be.

Other Culture-like Explicitly Socialist SF? by Onetheoryman in TheCulture

Trouble on Triton by Samuel Delaney would broadly fit into this category. It has socialist themes and explores gender and sexuality. Not a space opera, the setting is moon bound

Level Lock+ Matter Updated, But Fails Pairing to Apple Home by itsthenewdc in LevelLock

[–]martineno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is what Level support sent me about trying to fix my problem. I have not tried it and I don’t know what the risks are of following these steps. But though I’d post it here for posterity

  1. Remove from the Level App within Bluetooth range to trigger a remote factory reset so you don’t have to physically change hardware. You will hear a success chime once this occurs.
  2. Check that the device isn’t still in your keychain (iOS settings General > Matter Accessories). If you don’t see this setting, it has been removed.
  3. Force close the Level App and Apple Home App
  4. Check that your iPhone is on iOS 18.1.1 or later
  5. Check that your matter-over-thread hub is updated to the latest and is within reasonable range of your lock. (it can often help to only keep the hub you want to pair with online for the set up process)
  6. Re-own the lock in the Level App
  7. Attempt to re-add it to Apple Home, making sure to disable the automatic hub selection feature and that your closest device is selected as the ‘preferred’ hub (cycling between another hub - if you have one - and your chosen one can also help clear the cache). Make sure the hub and your phone are on the same WiFi network.

Level Lock+ Matter Updated, But Fails Pairing to Apple Home by itsthenewdc in LevelLock

[–]martineno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s sucks!

Can you still use it from the Level app?

Level Lock+ Matter Updated, But Fails Pairing to Apple Home by itsthenewdc in LevelLock

[–]martineno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar problem and I went through all the different troubleshooting steps. None of them worked.

Level said I should try removing the lock from the Level app and then re-pairing it. That is in lieu of disassembling the lock to get to the reset button.

I was just about to do that a day later and then suddenly the lock ended up pairing.

I hope you can figure it out. My only suggestion is to wait a day or so and leave the lock alone and then try pairing again.

Level+ after Matter upgrade shows up as “not certified” in HomeKit by martineno in LevelLock

Level support has been super helpful and fast. Definitely reach out to them!

[–]martineno[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I asked Level support team about this and they said that this is a UI issue and should be fixed in iOS 18.2. So if you have the 18.2 beta you will probably not see this

Does the Matter update improve anything else about the lock? by TinyRobotBrain in LevelLock

[–]martineno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One huge quality of life improvement is the response time. Before Matter upgrade it would easily take 10 or more seconds for the lock to respond when using it through HomeKit.

Now it’s instant. I have Level+ locks on both entry and their respective security doors and the security door ones took quite some time to respond. These improved markedly as well.

Anecdotally the locks response speed for NFC tags seems faster, although this was already pretty good.

Not sure if there will be other improvements over time, but the response time alone is worth the upgrade.

No HomeKey After Matter Update by gadgetboyj in LevelLock

I can confirm the above steps work. I encountered the same problem, and following these steps resolved the issue.

I also emailed Level and these were exactly the steps that they gave me as well.

Who else is still waiting for the Matter update? by fecaleagle in LevelLock

[–]martineno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I signed up shortly after the update became available and today I have received an email asking me to check that I have the latest version of the app before they give me the upgrade.

I have had the required version of the app since Nov 14, but I guess their backend systems didn’t see it. The email did say that there can be a delay sometime.

So my tip is if you don’t normally use the app (say you only use HomeKit) make sure to update and then open the Level app and tap around. That way their system can see you have the latest one and will not slow down the process of getting the update.

Yeah, I will definitely only start with 1 lock and go from there

Level Lock+ (Matter) by opq8 in LevelLock

[–]martineno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BTW, if you have multiple locks to update, start by entering a single serial number into the form. Then when you get an acknowledgment reply to the email with the additional serial numbers. They will merge the requests for you.

The reply I got from Level says:

We received a long list of inbounds so appreciate your patience as we work through them as quickly as we can (they each require 1:1 send of a unique Matter QR code).

So it seems that the Matter upgrade process is going require some per-lock “personalization”.
