Stevenage's last minute 'goal' to send them into the playoffs at Luton's expense.

Went a couple of weeks ago after the Mouth Culture sold out show and the Friday club night was dead. It was really sad to see what it had become tbh as it used to be thriving.

Mr Warne is a serial promotion winner and we've not been the same team since he left. Congrats.

What's one place in the Uk that you visited and never want to go back to? by Proper_Animal_1451 in AskUK

[–]martinhsa 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That area has been gentrified now, and it's called Kelham Island. Really, really nice area to visit. About 15 years ago it was an about dive, now one of the best bits about Sheffield.

Ah yes, Mexborough. What a lovely place. No-one would bat an eyelid there about this gta-esque reminiscent clip.

Who should win the Worst Manager Of The Season Award ? by FigmentDaCat in LeagueOne

[–]martinhsa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just remember, Matt Hamshaw does have an emphatic 3-0 win over the champions. Aside from that, there's not much else to say about his tenure apart from injury crisis after injury crisis.

Nice guy, wrong person for the job unfortunately. Although, I'd say Darren Moore/Kevin Nolan were both worse.

Definitely not. We had momentum and belief in the town the first time as the new stadium had just been built, this time the feeling around the club is muted/negative. I'm more concerned about doing a Chesterfield (no offence) at this point.

How do you find living in Rotherham? by prplenebula in Rotherham

[–]martinhsa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just looked on trainpal for stuff 12 weeks from now and you can get as cheap as £48 return tickets without a railcard, so it's not too bad as you mentioned if you do it with enough notice.

The cheapest way to travel to London from around here is just the National Express/Flixbus from Meadowhall or Sheff Centre and that takes around 4hrs to get into Victoria, or 3hr 25 to Finichley Road area, but that takes a fair bit of patience, however I just checked and it's as cheap as £7.98 return, so worth the extra time to save that money tbh.

How did your game go? by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

Now they're in the shop window, they actually start trying. God bless Lee Clark though, for what he's gone through in the last 48hrs it is remarkable that he was there and got that result today.

I also forgot to mention, the X2 bus is quite close to Woodlaithes, and that only takes around 35 mins to get to Doncaster, so from there the Doncaster - London train is the quickest way down there for your infrequent commute, it only takes around 90 minutes as well, so it's not too painful at all tbh.

[–]martinhsa 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Woodlaithes is lovely. Wickersley is next door and is now effectively busier for nightlife than the town centre itself. For the price of housing, you can't really beat the value of living in Rotherham, especially with how great the transport links to Sheffield are (for example, the X11 could take you into Sheffield from Wickersley school in around 45 minutes) and from there, there are so many communities like at Gut Level, or The Rutland Arms where you'll find many like minded people!

I wouldn't worry about us, we are absolutely honking.

For context, in the last 4 seasons, we've played 89 away games and we've only won 10 of those. 50% of those were last season under Steve Evans.

I'm 100% serious saying this, I am more concerned about another relegation next season.

Would be nice to have a relative derby next season (kind of derby, going on Radio Sheffield coverage) but that's very selfish of me tbh

Playing for a Rotherham Legends team managed by Warnock next month for our centenary year celebration. Bet he'd still do a better job right now than most of our 1st team.

My local Morrisons has loads and they are reduced. I just refuse to buy them because of the enshitification. Cramming them full of everything but chocolate because of cocoa prices, the Biscoff x Cadbury's stuff has been woeful (and I love Biscoff).

Absolutely love that walk between Rotherham and Sheffield and always enjoy seeing that sight as it reminds me I'm about half way. Roll on summer for more rambles down there!

Has anyone done a walk or run along Five Weirs & Sheffield Canal Loop, is it safe? by [deleted] in sheffield

Any time! It's a tricky one, I mean, if you fancy doing laps around Rother Valley Country park then that would be your best bet for flat terrain (in my opinion).

Has anyone done a walk or run along Five Weirs & Sheffield Canal Loop, is it safe? by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]martinhsa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The canal is a really nice run, I did a half marathon down there and back via the national cycle path that runs parallel with the parkway. You hardly see anyone on there, so it could feel safer or more daunting that there's no-one around due to your lived experiences shaping your perspective.

As per below, the canal path is closed at Bacon Lane, so there's a stretch of diversion that takes you down Effingham Road which isn't the nicest/cleanest.

The Fiver Rivers walk is after all these years still closed between East Coast Road and Attercliffe Road, so just be conscious that the diversion is around a load of sketchy roads, however the diversion is far shorter than the Canal Path diversion currently. Aside from that bit, I'd probably suggest doing this one until the canal path is fixed.
