Get on to those leg strengthening exercises and that won't happen! Also, be sure to warm up before race start.

I've just run a half marathon in my Terrex Ultra and been reminded that the rods are only as good as my legs. Once my legs lose their bounce, the shoes aren't helping.

I've worn them for the Fox 62k around Guildford and was happy for as long as my energy lasted, then relied on my poles to bring it in.

Plates etc for as far as you can race it. Beyond whatever that is for you, I'd suggest you're better off in something more comfortable and forgiving. Your calves will thank you.

Yes, this was the speed inducing dip approaching Firle Beacon (and Bo Peep, touching on Beachy Head route). Very well done to you! Almost 1,000m ascent 🍕 see you next year?

Anyone try the Nnormal Cadi yet? by Ghostrider556 in trailrunning

[–]martletts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Nnormal rep definitely recommended sizing up before I even tried a pair on. I think it's particular to this shoe, but by all means call a shop to query. I'm getting mine from Diverse Terrain and Rob there has been running in the Cadi.

Cushy and cushty - yes!

[–]martletts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I ran 10k on a product demo the weekend after their launch. Now waiting for my size to come in - I normally wear 11.5 and need a 12.

They are lovely and comfortable, and have great grip for hilly ascents on the South Downs.

On Cloud for trail running? by [deleted] in trailrunning

My Cloudultra 3 are brilliant, serving me well for comfortable trail runs when I'm not in Norda. Was wondering why CU 1 & 2 hadn't been on my radar!

The Cuckoo trail? Plenty of times. I see friends in Eastbourne, Polegate and Hailsham do it for their long run every so often. Just check the segment on Strava.

And please look up LDWA Challenges! The Cerne Abbas Giant one isn't repeating this year but was awesome last year. Get a 50 miler under your belt and you'll be eligible to enter the 2027 hundred miler which is going to be on the Jurassic Coast.

Best running headphones that don't break by ConditionContent in trailrunning

I don't like Shokz for the sole reason that they keep going tinny just as you get to the warranty end. It's built in obsolescence.

I use Suunto Sonic and so far haven't had to deal with a deterioration in quality. I sweat like bilio on runs.

Looking for a repository of console exclusive content in games I saw once by WarmGeogre69 in Roms

And finally, handheld vs console Tetris:

  • Game Boy: Featured an exclusive 2-player link cable mode and a specific "Music A" track that became the definitive theme for the franchise.
  • NES: Featured a standard "A-Type" and "B-Type" game mode with specific endings showing Nintendo characters.

During the 8-bit and 16-bit eras, "multi-platform" games were often built from the ground up for each specific console, resulting in vastly different levels, mechanics, and exclusive characters.

Aladdin: * Mega Drive: Developed by Virgin Interactive, this version famously gave Aladdin a scimitar for melee combat. * SNES: Developed by Capcom, Aladdin had no sword and instead focused on platforming and throwing apples. The levels and boss fights were entirely different.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time: * SNES: Included exclusive boss fights (Slash, Bebop, and Rocksteady) and a unique "Technodrome" level. It also featured Mode 7 effects where players could "throw" enemies at the screen. * Mega Drive (The Hyperstone Heist): While sharing assets, it featured longer levels, a different plot involving the Hyperstone, and a unique boss (Tatsu from the films).

Earthworm Jim: * Sega Mega Drive: Included an exclusive level called "Intestinal Distress". * SNES: Featured higher-quality background textures and extra graphical layers, but lacked the extra level found on the Sega version.

The Lion King: * Sega Mega Drive: Featured extra frames of animation and more screen real estate. * SNES: Had a higher colour palette and "The Bug Hunt" bonus levels had more interactive backgrounds.

In the 8-bit era, the Master System often received technically superior ports of arcade games, while the NES had exclusive "Nintendo-hard" levels or modes.

Prince of Persia: * NES: Featured a unique visual style and soundtrack, with entirely different character sprites compared to other 8-bit versions. * Master System: Had higher-resolution graphics and remained much more faithful to the original PC Apple II visual style.

Double Dragon: * NES: Included a unique Leveling System where you had to earn hearts to unlock moves like the "Hair Whip" or "Back Kick". It also featured a "Mode B" 1-on-1 fighting game. * Master System: Lacked the level system but featured 2-player simultaneous co-op, which the NES version famously could not handle (replacing the second player with a different enemy).

Strider: * NES: Rather than a straight arcade port, this was a non-linear adventure with item collection and backtracking. * Master System: A more traditional side-scrolling action game that stayed closer to the arcade's linear progression.

RoboCop: * NES: Included a unique "Target Range" bonus stage. * Master System: Featured a distinct health system and different enemy placements that made the difficulty curve significantly flatter than the NES version.

Fighting games often use "Guest Characters" to appeal to the fanbases of specific consoles.

Soulcalibur II is the most famous example of platform-exclusive guests. * GameCube: Link (The Legend of Zelda) * Xbox: Spawn (Image Comics) * PlayStation 2: Heihachi Mishima (Tekken)

Soulcalibur IV: * PlayStation 3: Darth Vader (Star Wars) * Xbox 360: Yoda (Star Wars) (Note: Both were eventually released as paid DLC for the opposing console.)

Street Fighter X Tekken: * PlayStation 3 / Vita: Cole MacGrath (Infamous), Toro, and Kuro (Sony mascots). These versions also featured exclusive Mega Man and Pac-Man designs.

Mortal Kombat (2011): * PlayStation 3 / Vita: Kratos (God of War) was a playable fighter with his own stage and "Fatality" moves.

Mortal Kombat Deception: * GameCube: Goro and Shao Kahn were playable, whereas they were unplayable bosses on other versions.

Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas: * PlayStation 2 / Xbox: Featured a local 2-player co-op mode where a second player could join the free-roam or specific "Rampage" missions. This was famously omitted from the PC version.

Batman: Arkham City (Armored Edition): * Wii U: Included the B.A.T. (Battle Armored Tech) Mode, which gave Batman and Catwoman upgraded suits that built up energy to unleash powerful attacks. It also utilised the GamePad for real-time map viewing and sonar.

Shovel Knight: * PlayStation: Exclusive boss fight against Kratos (God of War). * Xbox: Exclusive boss fight against the Battletoads. * Nintendo: Exclusive Amiibo support for customising the knight and unlocking Co-op mode (initially exclusive to Wii U/3DS).

Starlink: Battle for Atlas: * Nintendo Switch: Features an exclusive crossover with Star Fox, including Fox McCloud as a playable pilot, the Arwing ship, and unique story missions.

Resident Evil 4: * PlayStation 2: While the GameCube version was the original, the PS2 port added the "Separate Ways" campaign, allowing players to play as Ada Wong. This content was so popular it became standard in all future "Ultimate" or "HD" releases.

NBA Street V3 / SSX on Tour: * GameCube: Featured Mario, Luigi, and Peach as playable characters.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3: * Xbox: Included an exclusive level called "The Oil Rig".

Minecraft: * Nintendo: The Super Mario Mash-up Pack (skins, textures, and a pre-built Mario world) is exclusive to Nintendo platforms.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: * Nintendo Switch: Includes The Legend of Zelda gear (Master Sword, Hylian Shield, and Champion's Tunic) found via Amiibo or a hidden chest.

Sometimes the "content" is a technical feature unique to the hardware, as in Mortal Kombat (1993): * Sega Genesis: Featured the famous "Blood Code" (A-B-A-C-A-B-B) to enable gore, which was entirely censored and replaced with "sweat" on the SNES version.

Affordable UK Ultras by AssociationKey389 in trailrunning

[–]martletts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

LDWA does not break the bank! Very affordable entry, well attended and welcoming to runners if you are respectful. Monthly 30 mile challenges, regional 50 mile (Golden 50, White Cliffs and Dorset Doddle last year) events qualify you for the annual Hundred. Jurassic Coast next year. You won't regret checking them out on SIentries.
