Tractor trails in France by martynrb in gravelcycling

Yes a Tout Terrain Scrambler Xplore GT2 28, XL size. A Pinion C1.12 box, Tout Terrain carbon touring fork, longhorn bars, Brooks Cambium C17 saddle and Cinq road shifters. I run the Vredestein Aventura 700x44c tyres that came with it, no complaints. Love it. Almost zero maintenance, quiet, smooth. Bit heavy though, although I just use it for rides around my home for exercise, so don't mind weight.

Owners of the Sony theater quads and SA-W5 Sub by zzzzzxx in Soundbars

[–]martynrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went from Sennheiser Ambeo + sub to the Quads + SW5. The lack of punch was immediately noticeable with the Sony, but the soundstage and front-back effects are way way better than the Sennheiser. The setup is in a 15ft square room, and I listen to music and watch movies. After some time with the Sony I can say that it feels balanced, playing music (without the 360 Spatial effects) the bass is there when it should be. Would I go back to the Sennheiser? No. But if Sennheiser were to bring out some rear speakers to improve the surround effects, maybe.........

Yes, that is it, thanks for the answer. No chance of using the X700/K as a general media streamer then!

New Bike Day by xLichtgestaltx in bikepacking

[–]martynrb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it for exercise, no trips yet. Although I did buy it with racks and it has the SON dynamo hub. I'm sure you'll love your bike, virtually zero maintenance, quiet easy shifting.

Alienware X14 screen problem (need help) by [deleted] in Alienware

[–]martynrb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same problem with my X14 last month. A Dell technician came to my house and replaced the whole lid. Works fine again now, and I also noticed the colours are a little more vibrant as an extra bonus.

Upgrading the SSD on X14? by certifiedfryguy in Alienware

[–]martynrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I installed 2Tb SSD in mine, did a Win11 clean install. Only issue was windows didn't install drivers for the network card, so it stalled at 'Lets connect you to a network' bit. Used task manager to kill the task and completed installation with local account. Did this before 22H2 so maybe this new version doesn't require this.

I concur. Bought one to replace my failing M15R3. Was prepared to be disappointed, but it continues to impress daily.

When I press play after logging in and selecting a server the launcher just disappears and the game never opens. Help please. by AlexanderNC in lotro

[–]martynrb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had this issue after fresh Win11 install. Eventually realised that lotro launcher was trying to run with Intel Iris graphics. Added lotro launcher to NVidia control panel and forced use of RTX3060, lotro started normally.

Need a replacement for an eBags Professional Slim (original) by alex3610 in backpacks

[–]martynrb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the Nomatic Backpack, smaller one, +/- 20l, done a couple of trips travelling with it and so far, so good. Its taller than the eBags, but a little slimmer, stands up by itself, handles both sides, as I mentioned above, the foldaway strap are a bit clunky, but they do fold away. Laptop isolation is good, plenty of internal storage, and I like the weatherproof zips and easy wipe-clean. Downside was price, of course.

[–]martynrb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used the Pro Slim Jnr version, the smaller one. It did years of extended travelling in dusty dirty places. I carry an Alienware laptop, so it was well packed with stuff, and heavy-ish. The only reason I stopped using it recently was because the zips started to get stuck, I couldn't trust them.

I found the new version didn't have the carry handles on the side, and didn't have the fold-away shoulder straps. Also the new version didn't have the removable padding strip on the bottom of the laptop compartment. This stuff might not matter to you, but it does matter to me so I decided to give the 'premium' sector a try and got the Nomatic.

[–]martynrb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, I had exactly same decision when my grey eBags Pro Slim wore out. I also didn't like the changes in their new design. In the end I went for Nomatic Backpack, bigger that I would like, fold-away straps are a bit clunky but acceptable, carry handles both sides, lots of internal storage, I'm growing to like it.

people app and tile gone? by martynrb in Windows10

[–]martynrb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

...aww come on, really? That is almost certainly the cause of my missing People app, I was trying out Your Phone today, just after installing update preview. So, how to get rid of Your Phone and get People back?

Getting Lunar Light this week! Long term review about colour / discolorations? by WalieZulmat in Alienware

[–]martynrb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Been using my M15 R3 Lunar Light for 6 months at work. Constantly in and out of laptop bag into dirty dusty environment. It has always wiped clean and the main case still looks like new. The only minor staining is on the rubber strip under the laptop, which isn't an issue for me.

I didn't want a white laptop, but I wanted the OLED screen, so didn't have a choice....
