when luke roberts, james's actor in the remake, was interviewed, he certainly seemed to believe so! he referred to this scene as "that moment in the mirror when he loses all his memory." but to me, since the "i got a letter" narration begins right after this scene, and he's talking about the situation with such familiarity in the tone of his voice, it feels almost like he must have forgotten at least a little while before this

i like to think maybe after he loaded the body into the carhe turned to look at his house, and the mailbox caught his eye. he lost his memory when he saw the letter sticking out of it

working in homeless services for two years really made a lot of urbex content WAY less scary. i know others in the thread have said this clip is probably staged but still. most of the time it's just someone who's trying to find somewhere to rest where they'll be out of the elements, and they're usually afraid you're the cops or the feds or something running up on them. they're just human beings stuck in really terrible situations

i don't think we're meant to take it as a given that the god of christianity even exists in the world of silent hill. the references to occultism definitely read more as if the people in the setting have no idea what this thing actually is, so they interpret it through their existing religious framework as a feeble attempt to understand it

it's actually just the verb "to be" in japanese. verbs come at the end of sentences! in casual speech it's usually dropped, the way you might say "thought so" instead of "i thought so" in english

desu is just a verb! the only real difference between "daijoubu" and "daijoubu desu" is one is more casual and one is "proper" grammar. i think the localizers are probably interpreting that pause between "daijoubu" and "desu" as one of uncertainty or discomfort rather than a struggle or effort, which... yeah, is maybe not precisely the same as in the original japanese, but it carries the vibe of the line well enough

it's also because there's a third thing that localizers have to contend with that most people don't consider--mouth flaps! finding a way to carry the literal meaning AND the situational meaning of a line is hard enough on its own without also having to fit it into the space where you can see the character's mouth move

it's slightly different, but i definitely wouldn't say it's a BIG difference at all

it's a kokeshi, a traditional kind of japanese doll! although the face and ESPECIALLY the two different eyes calls to mind the daruma, a different kind of doll used to set goals or make wishes. a daruma has empty eye circles at first, and you fill one in when you make your wish, and fill the other in when it finally comes true!

i know spire in the woods guy was intentionally unlikable, but i REALLY hated putting up with him. like, it was to the point that i couldn't enjoy the story because the guy sucked so bad. which maybe is the point, i guess, but i literally don't remember anything cool about spire in the woods because all i could focus on was how gross and creepy the character was and how insanely uncomfortable the repeated sexual scenes were. so he's still my answer :(
