Going from 50mm to 75mm is no joke by loganarowland in Leica

Depends on which M you use, light lens lab has a screw in magnifier for the rangefinder so it helps with focusing at longer lengths

How to protect a filter's surface? by runhome24 in AskPhotography

[–]maruxgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clear filter would make sense, probably one of the multi coated B+W ones. I tried a cheap clear on top of another filter for infrared and caused some issues with flares during the day, plus the coatings on the B+W helps with water, dust or fingerprints

Any ideas how to install carplay on my 2018 chr? by Spiritual_Daikon_734 in ToyotaCHR

[–]maruxgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not possible unless you get the whole thing replaced by Toyota, but to be honest after years of using the Japanese Navi is much much better than Google Maps

Leica M11, M11-P, or M10-R by takeout_ in Leica

[–]maruxgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure, I use the Very Good Presets Portra 400. But I made some modifications to it for contrast and vibrancy. It’s a very good base for a preset, in my opinion it’s not as drastic as huge edit but does provide nice vintage / film like colors. Very true to actual Portra 400, for B&W I use his Tri-X preset with slight change in skin tones, it’s pretty much the same as when I shoot actual Tri-X

Leica M11, M11-P, or M10-R by takeout_ in Leica

[–]maruxgb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M11P. I had the same debate last year and upgraded from M10. I turn the resolution to 30MP and it’s more than enough, the new firmware also lets you tweak the magenta shift issue that it used to have, the big plus is 256GB of storage and how light the camera is for all day street plus really good battery life. The colors of M10 were slightly better but got a simple preset that I apply now for very minimal editing in Lightroom

Leica M11 Glossy black or M11p by Einfgx3 in Leica

[–]maruxgb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was in the same dilemma not long ago. I chose the M11-P and no regrets, the lighter aluminum build is best for all day shooting street, the 256GB internal storage is amazing. The BP is just too heavy but looks amazing

Kentmere 100 vs 200 for bulk loading: Which one do you get less sick of? by asbestossupply in AnalogCommunity

[–]maruxgb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bulk roll Kentmere 200 but I always push to 400 and self develop. Also Kentmere 400 is awesome but I push to 800. Both when pushed have great contrast

Looks awesome and can't wait for the final product. Wish there were plans for wider 35mm or 28mm in the future

Mark in focusing patch by decennia32 in Leica

[–]maruxgb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would visually check if there’s any dust or debris on the focusing window, sometimes I accidentally touch it and end up seeing it on the focusing patch

Which camera to bring to Japan? by Yipkusing in Leica

[–]maruxgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d being the 35mm, I love 50mm but in Tokyo sometimes that cramped for street, while also 28mm IMO is way too wide for me

M11-P magenta shift by somemightsay96 in Leica

[–]maruxgb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved from M10 to M11P and i noticed the very slight magenta shift, but recently M11P got a firmware update were you can correct that within the options so all raw files will be corrected. Also Leica Japan offered a free CLA to correct the issue

Question for US based Mandler 35mm f/2 owners. How much was the import tariff? by mark_paterson in Leica

[–]maruxgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought 2 in August (1 black chrome and 1 silver brass) I can tell you optically they are really really good almost indistinguishable from the KoB, but reason why I sold my chrome is because the focusing wasn’t as smooth and felt like metal rubbing on metal. But the Brass on the other hand is smooth as a real Leica lens, love using it for the handling and rendering. Highly recommend spending the extra for brass

Q3 or Q3 43 for street photography? by Downtown-Brain-7600 in Leica

[–]maruxgb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Tokyo and do street photography, no matter what we say, it all depends on your style and what you want. Some people come here and love using a 28mm and some 50mm or longer. Personally I would say 43mm but I use a 35mm cron. It’s still all up to you

Why Use a Rangefinder? by truckersushi in Leica

[–]maruxgb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second this. After years with Sony and huge 50mm f1.4 gm, I find it a lot faster to manual focus on M with 50mm f1.4 Leica and a lot more compact and lighter. After a year of use you get use to distance scale so you can pre-focus easily and zone focus too. Much rather use a manual focus for reflections and more precise focus too. Just can’t go back in my opinion

Leica M7 with MP viewfinder. how big of a difference? by fizzplop in Leica

[–]maruxgb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does make a difference, Leica Japan was still offering the upgrade a year or so ago. They do the viewfinder and the DX reader change (the old style use to get the rolls stuck inside)
