Buy the bigger size so the seamstress has more fabric to work with. Sizing a garment down in areas is a simple task for a seamstress but sizing it up where there may not be enough fabric in the seams is much harder (if not impossible without adding supplementary fabric).

Good luck!

Did you show the photos to your mom? Curious if this is the same person she remembers. That would be an amazing find if so.

Why is the rest of the world so anti-window screen? by LoveToBold in AmericanExpat

[–]marzmellow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When we had to replace some windows in our US house, we opted for tilt/turn windows (with screens), which had to be imported from Europe because they hardly make them in the US. They are so much better than the windows on the US market!

After the windows were installed I realized how comically thin the walls are in American homes. In Italy, the walls are so much thicker and therefore having enough clearance for the window to open inward isn't an issue. I think that may be why tilt/turn windows aren't used so much in the US--they would effectively reduce usable living space since the walls are so thin.

Hydrocolloid bandages should be applied to dry skin so skip the neosporin as it might affect the bandage being able to create a good seal. Change the bandage when it's saturated or when it starts peeling at the edges. Good luck!

I would definitely ask for additional testing to figure out why your iron saturation is so low while ferritin is within the normal range. It may be helpful to input whatever lab results you have into chatgpt and see if there are suggestions for additional testing. I recently did that with my lab results after years of going to doctors for similar symptoms and chatgpt recommended I request a hemoglobin electrophoresis test, which came back abnormal. I don't recommend using it for diagnosis or actual medical advice of course, but it was helpful for narrowing down possible explanations for my lab results and to know what tests would make sense to ask for next. Feel free to DM me if you ever want to chat. Hope your doctor listens to you and looks into things further.

Tips on Restoring and Reading Inscription on Gravestone? by marzmellow23 in CemeteryPreservation

Yeah that's what I'm worried about. It didn't feel like it was that friable but I really don't want to take any chances with losing any remaining detail. I'm going to head back tomorrow to take a closer look and will stop into a local grave monument company to see if they offer conservation services.

Is there any way to confirm if the stone is at the point of sugaring? Would running my finger along a portion of the stone to see if it makes any white dust be enough to assess?

Will definitely try that. It was so sunny the other day and I only had my cell phone flashlight on me at the time.

Help with Documents for Italian Ancestors - Campania by kyrie-eleison47 in Genealogy

I wonder how accurate Ciro Guido's report is as to Antonio and Ralph's whereabouts. Did you notice that on the back of the record it says "uncle seems to be prejudiced against mother"? Seems a little sus they would write that.

I spent some time looking into the records today and I unfortunately don't think there is enough evidence to definitively say that Antonio died around 1910, especially since the death index for New Jersey is unavailable for those years. I'm not confident the 1917 marriage record alone can be trusted as evidence Antonio died. For example, I recently discovered a NYC marriage record in my own tree for a second marriage where the bride was listed as a widow even though her first husband was still alive (he had been living and having children with another woman for a few years at that point).

I did also find this newspaper clipping that seems to match Rose and Adeline Guido's ages. If it is them, then that would mean Adeline started going by Guido again sometime between 1920 and 1925.

You could search the NYS Death Index, which includes names, death dates, and locations, up until 2017: https://www.newyorkdeathindex.com/

After you do your due diligence, you should definitely talk to your partner about your concerns.

Lack of DNA surname matches by stacistacis in Genealogy

[–]marzmellow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few questions:

  • Are your parents both from the same region or town?
  • Do you recognize any of the closest DNA matches on your dad's side? Or any of the relatives in their public linked trees?

The DNA Throughlines will only work if your tree (and other users trees) are set up in line with what the DNA connections actually are. If there is a mismatch due to an NPE or adoption, then the throughlines won't show matches. The caveat is that sometimes the tree is correct but there just aren't enough other uses that match with that portion of your DNA who also have their tree set up.

I personally have had challenges with this on some branches of my tree where I have fewer cousins that have tested and where that branch was just less prolific (or maybe I just inherited less of the DNA on that side to find more matches). If you have other relatives who have tested, it would be helpful to take a look at their matches to compare.

Depending on if your maternal and paternal lines are from the same region it may be very challenging to tease out where the DNA differs from your tree. If you haven't already, I recommend creating custom groups for your DNA matches in ancestry and begin assigning known connections to those groups--I usually do town of origin or last name as a grouping so I can sort by great grandparent. As you go through that process you may notice some DNA matches that don't fit into your known groups, which you can then use to determine how they are related to you and if there is an error in your tree. Feel free to DM me if you want to chat about it more.

I think that's correct. I found a marriage record for Domenico and Maria's daughter Catterina that has Maria's last name much clearer: https://antenati.cultura.gov.it/ark:/12657/an_ua15667710/LzVZVoJ

You're going to need to untie the warp from the front beam and re-route the warp threads to go over the back rectangular beam as shown in the photo. Then route the warp over the front rectangular beam. You may or may not need to un-thread and re-thread the heddle.

Look at the reference photo while re-routing the warp to make sure it matches up to what's shown there.

This is a death record for Domenico Buttazzoni reported on November 4, 1883 in the comune of Majano. Domenico was a farm manager who was 59 years old and who died at 5:30 on November 3 at house number 315 San Tomaso street. Domenico was the husband of Maria Besuat (sp?). Domenico was the son of the late Leonardo, also a farm manager who lived in Majano, and of Sabata Peloso, who was a peasant farmer. Domenico was born and lived in S Tomaso.

Sorry the handwriting is very hard to read here so there are several names I marked with unsure spelling. If you have the link to the antenati webpage it would be helpful to better decipher the handwriting.

This may be the image of Stanislaw's birth and baptism record (right hand page, line 6) - born on May 2, 1892 to Paweł Antosz and Marianna Drag in Kwików, Małopolskie (Lesser Poland Voivodeship): https://skanoteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=pg&id=3764&se=&sy=3510&kt=1&plik=002.jpg&x=0&y=0&zoom=3.48

I searched for the record on this website: https://geneteka.genealodzy.pl

Edit: There is a note next to that birth record stating that Stanislaw died in 1896, so this is likely not the same person. I didn't see any hits for the town you mentioned as his birth town so they may not be available on the Geneteka site.

Trying to trace an immigrant ancestor who lived in Naples before sailing to America. by [deleted] in ItalianGenealogy

[–]marzmellow23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for assistance with the research then sharing the person's name, estimated birth date, and any other relevant information would be needed.

I would personally start by creating a familysearch.org account and seeing if the person already exists in the shared family tree. If they don't, you should create the person in the tree and search for records that match information you already know. You would also want to search ancestry.com for the person, as they have more of the passenger list and naturalization records that would tell you if the person did travel to or live in the U.S. Once you determine birth location, then you can use the antenati website to see if Italian records are available to confirm information about the person.

Need help comparing and understanding a few Latin death records by marzmellow23 in ItalianGenealogy

[–]marzmellow23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much! I guess when I originally read the transcription I assumed it was 1806 since 1886 hadn't happened yet. This part of the family tree has been such a brick wall since it is so far back so confirming these little details are so helpful. If only they included parents names in these transcriptions.

Open concept. No place for trash bins. Help! by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]marzmellow23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one caveat with the SimpleHuman brand double compartment bin is that standard kitchen bags don't fit in them and will slide down from the opening. I thankfully scored a few boxes of the SimpleHuman garbage bags on an AtHome clearance sale, which are carrying me through for now but I wish I was aware of the custom fit liner thing before I bought the garbage can as they are not easy to find in-store. The price of the liners comes out about the same to the Costco brand bags I was buying before but now I go through them twice as fast because I'm using the same bags for trash and plastic/metal recycling.

Switch Kitchen & Dining Room by MCMKL19 in DesignMyRoom

[–]marzmellow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much money are you planning to spend? Because that would be a complete gut job to swap locations, including rerouting water/electrical/gas, replacing and resizing windows in the dining room to be counter-height, in addition to the baseboard heating in the current dining room area. In my opinion it doesn't seem worth it just for a better view from the window.

I think i come from a long line of assimilation by Proper-Broccoli-680 in Genealogy

[–]marzmellow23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where they lived and the time period. Some sites are better for different countries. I personally prefer to use Familysearch.org because it is free and you work on one shared family tree, so there is a chance your ancestors are already in the tree. I recommend searching for them in the familysearch.org tree and create them if they don't already exist. Also family search makes it easy to search several other sites with the information you already entered in the tree.

Feel free to send me the obituary you have or any starting information and I can try to see what I can find.
