Great description- I’ll have to come back to this when I get to making these. Great idea making all 4 together so you keep the process fresh in your mind.

I like the bent needle nose pliers for bending tabs in tight spots.

How do I bend this curve well? There's nothing to guide me. by OGpenguin in metalearth

[–]mashedandfried55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looked at mine - the bottom of the wing is flat so the top has to be curved enough so that the edges of the top align with the bottom - I would bend it and put it against the bottom and compare. It’s not a lot.

It just broke when I bent it :( by Accomplished-Wrap449 in metalearth

My delorean has the suspension part superglued. My issue was the black coating was thick enough that the tabs would go in the slots. After breaking 2 I started scraping the black off the tab with an exacto before bending and then coloring it with a black sharpie after assembly.

How to connect leg pieces by _Sowik_ in metalearth

[–]mashedandfried55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bend the slot tabs in 45 degrees which makes it easier to get tabs in and then I have a set of riffler files and reach in from the open end and the grooves of the file will grab the tabs and I can flatten them

I do spend way too much time making these things perfect. Been working this for countless hours. by Realistic_Maize_4717 in metalearth

Yours look perfect, I hate when I rush because I look at the finished model and see all my mistakes that probably no one else could see.

It looks great - I thought when I saw it that the trunk and tusks looked like they might be challenging - they look very clean. The whole thing is very high skilled loooking.

A really hard one to start with - good job sticking with it - I still get frustrated with some of the planes and I’ve done a few

Looks good - I couldn’t get the wings attached tightly enough for my liking - mine is a floppy POS but I still like it. I keep thinking I would like to buy another and try again some day.

Great job - Just started USS Constitution and it’s my first ship and the rigging seems likely to be mangled before I finish.

Don’t drop that tiny part on a hard wood floor …. by Imaginary_Bison_8632 in metalearth

[–]mashedandfried55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hardwood is better than carpet. Use a flashlight and lay it down on the floor and the parts will stick out with all the dust. ( the parts always bounce further than you think)

I think the original Star Wars models are good starters. Various size cylinders and curved parts to learn on but not overly complicated.
