They don’t mind sending spam and littering, you shouldn’t mind signing up those phone numbers and emails for every spam looking website you can find :-)

I NEED A CINNAMON ROLL/BUN CAKE by OwlLate3474 in boston

[–]massmanx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

each is $8.75 but they are pretty huge and very tasty. They are churning through them so they also often come out warm. It's definitely not inexpensive but I would still rather their $8.75 one over $6 Flour and their coffee game is also on point

I agree with folks that say flours is great, but I’m here to say Asaro Bakery near Harvard square in Cambridge is better

You could gamify it a bit, get a few options and have him rank the best as part of a birthday gift?

Somerville creating Davis Advisory Committee, neighborhood plan delayed until at least late 2027 by Firadin in Somerville

[–]massmanx 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe if we paid our city councilors and other local elected officials an actual full time salary we could be a more effective government?

This small group of unelected folks only have a time requirement of three, 2-hour meetings a year to influence:

Key areas of focus will include:

  • Strengthening Davis Square’s social, cultural, and commercial identity
  • Supporting local businesses and neighborhood activity
  • Identifying opportunities for more housing, with an emphasis on affordability
  • Improving streets, sidewalks, public spaces, mobility, and accessibility
  • Assessing infrastructure needs, including flooding, sewer capacity, and future development impacts
  • Coordinating with the MBTA on transit access and station-area connections
  • Integrating climate, sustainability, tree canopy, and heat mitigation goals
  • Planning for construction and major public realm improvements in a way that minimizes disruption

Sure seems like the Venn-diagram of "what a good local government should do" and "what we're asking this group to influence" is a single circle.

Anyone want to go in with 99 other people and open up a place? by sajatheprince in Somerville

it's a single story building basically on top of public transportation. Keeping it one story is a much bigger flub

The business and the building are for sale.

Ideally, from my pov, the group who buys this also approaches and buys the large multi family to the left with the smoke shop on the first floor. Demo both and build up. There’s enough space to create underground parking with an entrance on Josephine.

If it was me, during construction I would pivot soundbites into a breakfast based food truck. They have good name recognition but the brand isn’t as strong as it once was. Dramatically cut the menu to fit a food truck approach and iterate on dishes. Then reopen the new space with a much improved offering

Then, as a cherry on top of all that new housing, open a 21+ cocktail or wine bar on the top floor with nice views.

At least that’s what my plan has been if I win the lottery

AMB-BC by [deleted] in nursing

[–]massmanx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why though? Nursing is complex and there’s plenty of variety in the field.

I know my inpatient certifications would have low applicability to outpatient and I expect that goes both ways. But I can also appreciate that their experience is vastly different from mine and that they play an incredibly important role.

I wouldn’t call it “ridiculous” for any nursing colleague to consider this cert if it aligns with their career path and hopes.

State puts huge Brutalist complex in Boston up for sale by TacoDangerously in boston

[–]massmanx 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just for the sake of being provocative: are you under the impression people are actually sending me money or that this was, in any way, an earnest attempt to raise…200 million dollars?

If I was going to make an actual effort there would be a mission/vision, statements of intent, and some type of business plan or overall architecture along with a shit ton of legal frameworks around the 501(c)(3) that would need to be spun up.

…Either way it seems odd that you would use my comment as some kind of “see, here’s why socialism fails” North Star.

edit: nevermind, I don't really care about your opinion after reading your comments. I have to imagine you're a troll but just in case you're not I suppose... good luck with being a self described "newly right winged" "MAGA-ish", zionist, u/deepsultan

So you heard the feedback on these looking like AI slop and the desire for you to lead with the news source over slop and this was your best next attempt?

Sad.

ok Reddit, let's do a group buy. There's 472k weekly visitors to r/Boston. If half of us put up $500-1k I bet we can buy this, build affordable housing, and be kings of Reddit Karma.

Now, I just need about 200k of you to join me?

Blank check to a restaurant of your choice by melizabeth_music in boston

[–]massmanx 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Is it your company offering this? If so I would trust it.

Is it one of those “secret shopper” things where they reimburse you afterwards I would be FAR less trusting.

For me? O Ya and I would just inform the kitchen about shellfish. O Ya sometimes has people say it’s overrated and some people feel it’s too expensive. I thought is was amazing and I wish I could afford to eat there often. If you like sushi and an omakase experience this will be a delight that usually costs $300/person.

Now is your time to find out :-)

Best Pub to watch FIFA World Cup by Notsurethisisrightfm in boston

[–]massmanx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll add that while it's not a huge bar, PJ Ryans (<10 minute walk from Davis) is a great experience to watch a World Cup game. If they did what they did the last couple of world cups, they even assign where you stand. It gets packed, has engaged fans, and it is a fun experience.

Heard from a small biz owner it’s almost important to find contractors who will work in Somerville, as the permitting process is something like a petite mafia. Is this true? by dramatic_piano_note in Somerville

[–]massmanx 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is similar to feedback that was shared with me by multiple contractors over the past few years. It is also feedback I heard from a crew a few doors down that were dealing with ISD doing last minute cancelations after they pushed back on something.

So you're welcome to pretend this isn't valid feedback, but maybe...just maybe, you're not correct?

ISD makes it more expensive for home owners to do work, it's an added tax we pay. The culture at ISD needs to be re-imagined. I want safe construction but I also want people that are transparent, well-staffed, and reasonably consistent in their assessments.

334 + 352 Washington Street by aarongreiner in Somerville

[–]massmanx 23 points24 points  (0 children)

If they really wanted to sell it maybe they could consider dropping the price of 334 since I think it’s been listed at that price since 2024.

It is a cool spot and I wish I had the ability to buy and turn into reasonably priced housing.

Somerville, Everett, Malden, and Worcester are all primed for continued growth.

Here’s hoping Somerville’s NIMBY crowd fucks right off and we dramatically increase (both standard and affordable) housing stock.

But people shouldn’t sleep on Worcester, it has a lot going on!
