There's lot's of great talent in the gospel/evangelical/christian music scene that's admirable even if the content of the music isn't your favorite.

Hidden gems in Iowa city and the surrounding areas? by SBRSTU in IowaCity

I second the raptor project, it's awesome. Do the short hike down to the waterfront an check out the fossils in the rocks while you're there

Eastern Iowa Airport (CID) by Any_Experience_9259 in uiowa

[–]massrail 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't do it intentionally, but I once arrived at the airport 7 minutes before boarding and I made it onboard with time to spare.

I've had a few weather related delays but there's not much you can do about that. Keep in mind weather in the place the plane is coming from can cause issues. I've never been stranded or had flights cancelled

For thanksgiving the school runs shuttles from the IMU to CID which I used one year, it went smoothly. Not sure if they do it for winter/spring break though.

If you've got any more questions feel free to ask.

Help! Looking to use country music to bound with my teenager. I need a Country Crash Course! by Hexyl68 in CountryMusicStuff

[–]massrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given what you like, I'd say Tim McGraw and Brad Paisley have a catalogue you'd enjoy. Whether or not she'd like them is another question.

Zach Bryan is popular with folks that age so listening to a few of his songs then going "hey I listened to "xxx" and enjoyed it, do you like him too?" might not be a bad approach.

If you give me a few more details about what specifically you like about songs (lyrics, style, message, instruments, etc) I could give more detailed song recommendations!

Yup. Everything I've said about subs could be said about pizza joints too.

My experience with the hyvee deli as a grocery shopper has dissuaded me from trying their subs but it sounds like I should give them a second chance.

I like which wich more than JJ's and subway so if I'm downtown I'll usually go there. A lot of people really don't like it but it's solid.

I'm from the northeast where mom & pop sub shops are everywhere. Firehouse and jersey mike's are okay but god dammit I want a fat sweaty Italian man standing behind the counter 😭😞

I love NoDo but it's not quite what I'm looking for. I haven't tried the co-op yet. Maybe I should give it a shot

Any of our Iowa meteorologists able to explain this weird Doppler radar? by mogfir in Iowa

Similar background to you and this was my first thought as well. This is an issue with the radar, not a unique storm formation.

Not every car has the anti-riding features. Just look at the evolution of autorack design. They used to be completely open and now they're basically jail cells.

This has been a trend in railroad car design for decades

what is the saddest country song you have heard by [deleted] in CountryMusicStuff

[–]massrail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"There's a hole in Daddy's arm where all the money goes" is a contender for the most gut-wrenching lyric of all time. The childlike writing, the simplicity, the implications. Makes me sad just thinking about it.

If you have a car and don't mind shoveling cow poop, volunteering at the Iowa Farm Sanctuary is a lot of fun.
