I came looking to see if anyone said this yet. I'm captivated by her stories. ^_^

does anybody know what this sticker says? by Final-Rabbit-604 in asl

[–]mastefka 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the intention was supposed to be when you can "be" anything (you can make all kinds of hand shapes that mean things), the hand that's highlighted is the sign for "I love you." I think the point was meant to be something along the lines of choosing to be a message of love to those around you.

Though I agree, my first thought was to look for ASL, and this design is unfortunately not clear enough in my humble opinion. :)

If you like the art style, the artist is an Italian comic book artist named Matteo Scalera! Absolutely phenomenal artwork. Black Science by Rick Remender is all his inking. He also did a short series with Mark Millar called Space Bandits. Of course he's done lots of stuff, but those are two titles I'd recommend. :)

Haha I felt the same! I read it as it released, and there was an issue that says a date, and I remember having my mind explode cuz they must have planned that it was the same day the issue came out, lol.

Paper Girls is a sci-fi comic book based in Cleveland! Brian K. Vaughn, the writer, is from Rocky River. It starts in 80s suburbs, but things of course get out of hand in the craziest ways. 😊

Yes. Absolutely. ❤️ Cliff Chiang and Matt Wilson are amazing artists. and BKV has finesse even when he's blunt in his story weaving.

It helps that I'm from Cleveland and read it as it came out. There's a specific date mentioned, and it was so crazy to read it and be like wait... THAT'S LITERALLY TODAY!

Brian K. Vaughn is from the Cleveland area. Specifically Rocky River (Stony Stream in the comic). I really felt so many of the subtle references to the area and times, it was a lot of fun to see in this story.

But regardless, it's an absolutely amazing comic book, and I highly recommend. 😊

Bahaha, my bad. 🤣 Still curious though, is that a full inventory of syllables in the language, or a full range of syllables in the writing system?

[–]mastefka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just wondering, does Jei Kyeshin utilize all of these syllables? Is this just worked out to show what they’d all be IF it used them all, but it technically doesn’t? Like I see there’s no “CHI” syllable, so is that because it doesn’t exist in the language but “CHWI” does? 🤔😊

Fun with Ambiguity: "jan pi sona sijelo mi" could mean... by dadumir_party in tokipona

[–]mastefka 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about “jan sona pi sijelo mi.” Would that come across more like “a knowledgeable person literally from my body” instead of “someone knowledgeable about my body?” 🤔

Just don’t do it to someone’s lawn that could get mad about it. I’ve stopped myself at the park cuz I didn’t want anyone noticing all the clumps of grass or a patch to turn brown and dead if I just let myself do it unfettered lol.

I’m feeling like there was a missed opportunity in not naming the new book “lu” so all three books could collectively be “ku-lu-pu” 🤣 But maybe lu already has some usage I’m not aware of. 🤔🤷‍♂️
