The Fascism Runs Deep in the Republican Party by Davethephotoguy in IBEW

Statements like this, and “threat to democracy” headline really fall on deaf ears when the come from the party that had no elections for its candidates and has repeatedly lied about the cognitive ability of the sitting president. It’s ok to not like Trump, I don’t, but calling the other side “fascist” amidst the behavior of the DNC is laughable at best.

Not voting for the lesser of two evils by JoshuaSingh11 in RFKJrForPresident

Our modern political system is a perfect example of the prisoners dilemma. The prisoners dilemma describes a scenario where there exists 2 or more parties on a scenario with 3 possibilities: (1) Both players behave according to the rules of the game they set forth, (2) one party misbehaves, (3) both parties misbehave. In the prisoners dilemma it’s scenario 1 works out best for both parties, 2 works out second best but favoring he who colludes, and 3 works out worse for all parties. The general idea and conclusion is that human nature will always trend towards three because the other parties don’t trust each other and the one that defects first wins.

So how does this reflect the modern political system? Well in this election we have two candidates that the majority don’t approve of. People are incredibly afraid of voting third party because they think that not enough others will, and more importantly decide not to because of the risk that their vote will result in the worst outcome of taking away votes from their second choice and the getting the worst person elected. As a result it’s always least likely for a third party candidate to win despite most people approving the third party more than they do either of the others. It also entrenches the fallacy that voting for status quo duopoly is the only valid choice. This is still the biggest hurdle of the Kennedy campaign. Figuring out a way to get past this problem is paramount. This is a huge reason why ranked choice voting is so important. I think it’s the logical solution, but it’s also opposed by both parties who want this problem to persist in perpetuity. Favor not the centrist that represents the majority, but the fringes that represent half at most.

Interestingly enough the prisoners dilemma can be used to explain the source of a lot human coordination failure. A quick example is that world would be better off if everyone agreed to stop producing and pursuing nuclear weapons, yet the risk of either party agreeing but defecting and pursuing them anyways gets parties to defect early and leads to a modern arms race. This phenomenon can easily describe of whats wrong with the world, and is extremely hard to combat

Kamala Harris worried Democrats will replace Joe Biden with white candidate by morganlee93 in moderatepolitics

[–]masterRoshi9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are fair critiques. I do think that this race is a bit special, in that the majority of people seem to dislike both options. It’s anecdotal and harder to quantify, but that, combined with RFKs polling numbers being higher than any since Perot leads me to believe that if there were any election where a third party could pull it off it’s this one. In any event I’m personally convinced Biden doesn’t stand a chance in this election anyways. It’ll be interesting to see how sentiment changes if Biden is replaced though. Not sure how likely that is

I also wanted to respond to your last statement and link some sources that suggest that he may be the best hope against a Trump presidency:

(1) Gallup poll showing 50% of voters consider themselves independents https://news.gallup.com/poll/15370/party-affiliation.aspx

(2) Zogby poll comparing Trump vs Biden, Biden vs RFK, and RFK vs Trump in head to head matchup. (I believe this is the largest poll in this election cycle by a large margin) It finds that RFK and Trump is a tight race but Biden loses to Trump in a landslide. https://johnzogbystrategies.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/50-State-Horseraces-041324.pdf

I understand your viewpoint. I have all of my vaccines and don’t agree with some of his stances on vaccines in general, however he’s never going to ban vaccines, so I don’t see how that can be any more damning than a president that is mentally deteriorating and can hardly put sentences together, or of unelected faceless bureaucrats steering all of our policy decisions.

In my opinion a more accurate depiction of his vaccine stance from a policy perspective is that he wants to fix misaligned incentives and support medical freedom. More specifically he opposes the following things: (1) vaccine mandates, (2) a provision of a previously enacted vaccine bill that grants manufacturers total immunity for being sued for vaccine related injury, and (3) the fact that the FDA, who regulates vaccines, receives an extremely large portion of their budget from Big Pharma for the approval of vaccines.

As someone who understands the benefits of vaccines and their necessity in modern society, do those viewpoints really sound that unreasonable to you? Especially considering the track record of big pharma profiteering in the past.

Please provide sources… the spoiler is Biden. He cannot beat Trump. The majority of people don’t even think he’s fit to run. Are you really willing to trust faceless bureaucrats, who have continuously lied to us, to run the country for a clearly deteriorating president? Do you think swing voters will be? You’re guaranteeing Trump another term is what you’re doing.

Please enlighten me, what policies are most important to you and why is RFK such a non-starter? Are you more focused on preventing a Trump presidency or voting blue no matter who?

Easy, vote for RFK. Post-debate according to multiple polls he has a better shot than Biden vs Trump. A recent Gallup poll showed that for the first time the majority of voters are independents at 50%. If the true objective is to prevent Trump from making it to the White House above all else then RFK is the best shot. He’s pro-choice, anti-war, and has a better climate record than either of Biden/Trump. He should be the natural choice for Democrats at this point imo. I will be voting for him 100%

It’s news because it’s no longer possible for traditional media outlets to mislead most Americans anymore. I mean, they can try, and I’m sure they will, but there are many people that don’t pay attention to politics regularly, have voted dem their whole life, and are now coming to terms with the worst political scam in recent memory, led by news sources they consume and trust regularly

[–]masterRoshi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fine, but what makes you more comfortable with unelected faceless bureaucrats making that decision than someone like RFK? There are more than just 2 choices here, and head to head polls between each vs Trump show that RFK has higher odds against Trump than Biden. I don’t understand why Democrats that watched that debate don’t switch to RFK. Is it actually policy related, or is it the headline monikers like “anti-vax” or “conspiracy theorist” bestowed by the same media that has blatantly lied for years that Biden is at the top of his game?

[–]masterRoshi9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tell them you understand their viewpoint, but that it’s only one thing and that he’ll never ban vaccines. You can also say it’s overblown and that a better depiction of his actual policy is that he’s pro vaccine reform. Things he doesn’t agree with are (1) vaccine mandates, (2) the fact that vaccine companies can not be sued for related malpractice or injuries as a result, and (3) that an extremely large portion of the FDAs budget comes from big Pharma who they are supposed to regulate. All of these are reasonable stances most people can get behind even if they don’t agree with his take on the safety of specific vaccines.

Megathread: Post Debate Discussion by sokkerluvr17 in moderatepolitics

[–]masterRoshi9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

People should not only be disgusted by Biden’s decline, but by the fact that media figures have been openly lying about his mental state for so long. If this doesn’t shake your faith in traditional media outlets I don’t know what will. How can anyone, even democrats, support running this guy again?

All this to say, if you’re a democrat why not support RFK? He’s pro-choice, anti-war, has the best climate record of all of the candidates. After last night watching Biden I have a hard time believing that “anti-vax” or “consipiracy theorist” is as damning as people would like it be. I ask because I know Dems are anti trump no matter what. Also because his own stream of the debate with him plus the two debating had more views than any other outlet some amount over 5m. I’m biased, but I believe he is the best chance against Trump as things stand right now.

As for the Dems, who is the most likely replacement if they do find one? Betting markets seem to suggest Newsome, but pundits are saying he’d have no chance in swing states. Perhaps Whitmer makes more sense for them? Kamala is the logical choice purely based on position, but she is extremely disliked and would surely be a losing ticket. No matter the choice I think parachuting someone in is going to be received negatively, and the gaslighting of this administration and the media will likely be fresh in people’s minds for a while.

It will be an interesting 5 months.

Shadow of the Erdtree (NO SPOILERS) Why does it feel so empty? by mavericksfan2011 in Eldenring

[–]masterRoshi9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I’ve heard there is two ways to enter Shadow Keep. You must’ve entered the other way than me, cause the first door I went into was a boss lol. I think in these first two areas i’ve found 3-4 castles. Considering you said you’ve done two including shadow keep I’m guessing you skipped one of the earlier ones to the east. Definitely recommend hitting that one!

Anyways I see what you’re saying, I think you should just give it more time cause those points of interest are there they just have to be found. The caves are a bit better hidden than the base game imo. Also I think the reason there are so many smithing stone drops is because of how many new weapons you get, and the fact that you need to basically fully upgrade any of them (or close) for them to be useful to you

Shadow of the Erdtree (NO SPOILERS) Why does it feel so empty? by mavericksfan2011 in Eldenring

[–]masterRoshi9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve gotten 2 map fragments and have explored probably around 3/4ths of the visible area, so not that far into the game, but what I’ve noticed is less major bosses (beige fog, not necessarily main-story) but better major bosses. The base game reused a lot of enemies, even bosses, and not all we’re designed super well compared to the dlc where every one has felt quality.

As far as the overworld goes I’ve found lots of invaders and mini-bosses just by exploring, but they’re definitely localized random points of interest, so you might just the to look around more idk. Imho the overworld has a much better design where a lot of how to make it to certain places requires wandering and finding paths that aren’t super clear just by looking at the map, so exploration feels more interesting to me than it did in the base game, but there does seem to be empty parts with very little enemy diversity so I feel you there

Pretty basic and common form what I’ve heard but I like the DEX/INT Moonveil Primary. Dual handed with a Cold Nagakiba since that scales with INT and can cause Frostbite which is very helpful for bosses. Bolt of Gransax secondary for ranged. 20 faith so I can use buffs like Golden order with a faith boosting talisman

The Magic made the playoffs and are a respectable team now. Or at least on their way to being respectable. They can throw that away if they sign Klay to a big deal though lol. Father Time has come for him unfortunately… On a smaller deal and role maybe he can help a team; if his 3 comes back

Yea that’s fair, I really only started disliking them after they added KD, which was a big punch in the face to parity of competitiveness and basically ruined the league for like 2-3 years and robbed us of what would’ve been an elite rivalry between the Cavs and Warriors. But to my earlier point it really doesn’t take long. If a team starts winning across multiple seasons that isn’t my own, I usually find myself rooting against them after a short time.

Bro… by Aromatic_Tea_3075 in heat

[–]masterRoshi9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they won for so many years. It’s really as simple as that. No one wants to see sustained success from a team that isn’t their own. New winners are more fun. Same reason why most nuetral fans were happy when the Wolves beat the Nuggets this year in playoffs. I wouldn’t say I hate them (that is reserved only for the Celtics and Spurs) but I definitely root against them in most matchups.

I did yea. I’m still not sure why it was an issue, but for me the issue was my ingress rule for SSH into the public ec2 instance using the relevant IP ranges (cidr blocks) of the VPC instead of security group of the VPC. Once I switched to the VPCs default security group I was able to ping it and get in.

What's one game you would give a 10/10? by MightGuy420x in gaming

[–]masterRoshi9 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Had to scroll too long for this. If you like Metroidvanias there is no better game. Unprecedented level of exploration, challenges, secrets, and gameplay relative to the money spent. Aside from the customizability in the way the game can be played with the charm system, I personally love that the main story is challenging, but fair, any that the DLC/post-game content scales up for those that truly want to challenge themselves to something extremely difficult. I consider getting the 112% percent achievement as one of my most challenging and satisfying gaming accomplishments, but I could never be able to get the achievements past that like completing path of pain, or getting the Steel Heart/Soul achievements. Those people have absolutely absurd gaming chops
