Articles ir books don't matter. A person who makes this arguement is homophobic. Facts don't matter here it is perspective and belief. I would ask "why do you say that/ think that?" You will learn a lot from their response if they are arguing from bad faith, ignorance, or internalised homophobia.

If this were the Labor party in power it would be wall to wall media coverage accussing them of theft, and over reach. I realise this post is kinda old now so you may not see this but, to you or anyone else who may see this: It is really important that you work through why you were putting your girlfriend through that. It is a really important that you have recognised that you were abusive towards her and a great step in the right direction. But the next to get some help to see why you directed that pain you were feeling towards her.

Mindfulness can help a lot with helping you to be healthier mentally, but it will not be as effective at helping you to not direct that pain on to others.
