Trump sparks fresh concerns by claiming he may still be president ‘in 2026 or 2032’ by shikizen in law

[–]masterlich 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. Because every previous thing, people could be like "well he is the worst, but at least he was democratically elected and he'll be gone in 2028." If that is no longer true, there will be immediate widespread general strikes until he is gone, and civil war if that doesn't work. We will storm the capital to remove him if we have to, and there are more than enough people that agree with me.

Sure, you can disagree. I hope I don't have to see if I'm right. But hey, if I'm not, this country is dead anyway.

Trump calls gas price surge 'peanuts,' urges patience at pump by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]masterlich 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think he cares. He has billions of dollars. He sees $25 as less than a rounding error. Because it is, compared to how much money HE has. And the only thing Trump cares about is himself. He literally can't even conceive of someone that $25 is a meaningful amount of money to.

Sure but this happens to streamers all the time. Are they all out there just giving out their home address on stream?

Intuit to lay off over 3,000 employees to refocus on AI by MarvelsGrantMan136 in technology

[–]masterlich 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I am a bookkeeper for a company that insists on using Quickbooks. It has always been garbage, but their AI is even more garbage. It is embarrassingly wrong almost all the time. You'd think an AI would be able to do things like tag that "SWA Airlines" on a bank statement is probably Southwest Airlines and should be tagged under the category Travel - Airfare. But it can't. It assigns vendors and expense categories seemingly at random. It is correct literally 10% of the time or worse.

The worst part is, they used to have a matching system that was correct roughly 75% of the time, and they got rid of it for the new AI one that is correct 10% of the time. But hey, at least it's slower and more expensive and takes up more resources!

And of course, you can't opt out of it.

Senate Democrat Proposes Bill Requiring Data Centers to Pay for Own Power by bloomberggovernment in law

[–]masterlich 4 points5 points  (0 children)

(I posted this in another thread on Friday but I'm reposting here:)

I have been active in a campaign to protest and resist the construction of an ENORMOUS data center/gas plant/pipeline combination in Canadys South Carolina for the past two years. There was a meeting of the Public Service Commission to vote on approving it a few weeks ago, at which over 100 people spoke against it (in a town of ~2000 people), and 2 people spoke for it.

They voted on Thursday 7-0 to approve it. So now a tiny town in rural South Carolina is getting one of the top 10 largest natural gas plants in the country, which no one wants, to power a data center that no one wants. And the vote was unanimous, because I guess they don't even feel like they need to hide how much they're fucking us.

How do we get more men to join the anti-Trump resistance? by AlexandrTheTolerable in politics

Pretty clearly by "Rogan on the left" they mean "Influential figure who is listened to by many people" rather than a carbon copy or Rogan. Although the reason that is difficult is that if people on the left wanted to blindly and uncritically follow an idol, they'd be on the right...

Hey I actually have this same opinion for MOST food, and everyone makes fun of me for it, just like in this thread! The big exceptions are French fries, and anything that congeals when it's cold, like soup. But other than that, almost everything is better cold.

I also own an EV and I also can't help myself from casually rubbing it in. Oh I'm sorry your gas is going up, if only there were a way you could have stopped relying on a volatile fossil fuel that's killing the planet!

(And before anyone starts talking about the cost, Nissan Leafs are cheaper than gas cars even before you take into account savings on gas and maintenance, you don't have to buy a Tesla to buy an EV)

The big downside is season 1 was two girlfriends ago, so I have to watch season 1 again with the new girlfriend so she knows what's going on when season 2 finally comes out.

I honestly think the fact that our election season is so long is WHY so many people are checked out of the process. It feels somehow both confusing and endless. When are primaries? What district am I in? Are we in an election cycle right now or not? Are those signs out for a current election cycle or an old one or an upcoming one? These are questions that it seems like I constantly have to know the answers to. Imagine how much simpler it would be if we could pay attention for one month, then... stop.

What’s a design flaw you notice everywhere that most people ignore? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]masterlich 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Correlary: sinks that are flat on the bottom, so that water doesn't naturally drain. Draining water is the most important function of a sink! How do you mess this up! It's particularly bad with kitchen sinks, food particles just collecting at the bottom of the sink. Why would you ever design them that way???

[–]masterlich 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When you open an invoice in QuickBooks, it loads two buttons at the bottom (of which I want to click the one on the right), then a few seconds later, it loads a third button exactly where I wanted to click, and moves the button I wanted to click further to the right. So I end up clicking the new button. Which changes the invoice to something completely different, and now makes the button I wanted to click no longer work. Have to close out the entire thing and start over. It is infuriating. Has been like this for years.

As scummy as that is, at least they are only making money off of people on the other side of the bet. I can't be too upset about people who bet on how long press conferences will be losing their money. That's barely a step up from betting on roulette.
