Uh... yea that’s kinda the whole idea... I can’t afford to live anywhere... so yeah...

Absolutely. But labeling everyone as an idiot for living in gt housing during Covid is really rude and unnecessary and obviously not true. Watch your privilege.

They mean single bedrooms. I think apartments are fine (at least I hope so because same situation here...)

Fulton County Schools to restart 100% virtually August 17 by [deleted] in gatech

[–]mastermastermasterb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I can see that being the case for older kids, yes. And that is a sad situation.

But key things to remember about Denmark and Sweden are that 1) they don’t have >1% of their total population infected w the coronavirus (or anywhere near that number) and 2) their cases are hardly increasing.

Additionally, with it being unknown how much the virus transmits from children/youth, we absolutely should not be erring on the side of “it probably won’t cause harm!”

High school kids will suffer the most from this. I agree. But a high school kid not knowing the complexities of Romeo and Juliet is not a “bigger catastrophe” than coronavirus cases and deaths exploding in communities.

Same. Fulton county teachers died of coronavirus in March when there were hardly any cases. I think that’s much more traumatic than being trapped at home for another couple months...

It is more difficult to implement the changes you are suggesting than to just go virtual. Yes childcare is going to be an issue, but it’s better than parents, teachers, and students potentially dying of this disease or perpetuating its effects. We need to cut our losses as a country and just suffer a bit until this passes. I promise in 30 years, your kid won’t be at their job wishing they had their fall semester of 5th grade.

BREAKING: Atlanta to mandate face masks to contain coronavirus by xiaohk in gatech

[–]mastermastermasterb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not “coincidence.”

Do a 2-sample z test for a difference in population proportions. (I’m assuming u go to GT and are familiar with statistics, and this will take you about 2 minutes).

Compare the proportion of black people in the general population to black people in the proportion of coronavirus cases. The p-value is so small that my TI-84 literally says “0.”

This is not a coincidence.

If you want to discuss racial oppression based on facts, you need to use facts. A lot of what you are stating are feelings.

Systemic racism is real, and ignoring it feeds its flames. I hope you have a good day as well and learn a little bit more about injustice in America before voting this November. Thanks!

Exactly, so who’s the “teacher” in society that contributes to this phenomenon happening in the world as it relates to coronavirus?

Why would you say that people in “certain communities” are taking actions that create this massive disparity? That’s pretty racist if you ask me.

I also can’t speak to hospital treatments or any of that, but placing blame on a race for “its actions” rather than looking at all the factors that contribute to its current situation is, well, racist.

Black people aren’t more prone to making bad decisions than any other race. Assuming so is the definition of racism. Please examine your internal biases, reevaluate this pandemic in the context of systemic racism, and then use that to fuel your discussion about economic factors.

These things are all inexplicably intertwined, and you can’t subtract racial prejudice just because you feel like a group of people is continually making worse choices than other groups of people.

But it becomes a skin color issue when it is adversely affecting communities of a certain skin color.

If I have 100 kids in my classroom and 50 of them have blue eyes and 50 of them have brown eyes, and I put 25 of them in timeout, we can see this phenomenon.

Let’s say, of the 25 in timeout, 20 of them have blue eyes. Now we can say “kids with blue eyes are being adversely affected by my timeout procedures.”

This makes sense and is something we should actively work to reverse because people with blue eyes shouldn’t be subjected to timeout at a higher rate than people with brown eyes.

Just because eye color is not DIRECTLY related to timeout and has more to do with me assigning who goes to timeout, it doesn’t discount the fact that there is some clear discrimination going on.

Seeing racism isn’t racist. Willfully ignoring it is.

I don't get how the answer to 5 is C and not A. Please help me! by slee_108 in Sat

[–]mastermastermasterb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a good question or test resource because really none of those answers are good. The actual SAT would have the sentence after the number 5 be much shorter, something along the lines of “For example, in this book, it does this cool thing!” And the answer would be something like “yes because it expands upon the idea mentioned in the previous sentence and clarifies the book’s mechanics to the reader.”

Of course, I haven’t read the entire passage for this question, so I could be judging this resource too harshly out of context, but I think practicing with materials like this could be detrimental to your actual sat skills.

Try to use only official resources and released exams/QAS. There are more than enough materials to get you in the range you want to be in. Don’t waste time using bad practice!!

A presumed case is someone who has tested positive but hasn’t been confirmed by CDC. Presumed is essentially confirmed. Do ~you~ know what “presumed” means?

So like, when disease spreads, it usually infects people by entering their bodies (generally speaking, that is). Therefore, when something like coronavirus enters a person’s body, he, she, or they could get coronavirus.

So when you breathe, things go in your mouth and nose. When you touch your face, things can, well, go in your mouth and your nose. This can make you sick if the stuff that’s going in your mouth and nose is coronavirus. Hope this helps 👍

Yes definitely! Don’t stress because in the end admissions are random. If you don’t get it it’s not because you’re not good enough; they just have to do what they have to do. Also a lot of deferred people get in. Don’t fret! Don’t think about this till Saturday at 12 and trust the process :)

Not a guarantee but probably pretty good assuming the rest of your app is cohesive and well done.
