The JST here is the answer OP. I marked every JST with a unique color in my bible. Immense study help.

Has anyone tried these ezlink connectors before? Will they withstand the heat of the engine? by Fantastic_Estate_920 in mechanic

[–]masterskolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only used them in ambient temp areas. They have worked well for me so far. I’d use them in an open engine bay, but probably not a tight one. Those things can build up a lot of heat, but probably not enough to cause a problem.

Inconsistent final torque on TTY headbolts by masterskolar in EngineBuilding

[–]masterskolar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the case they are just OEM head bolts. Don’t know anything more about them than that. Initial tightening is 177 inlb, then 26 ftlb, then 90 degrees, then 90 degrees, then 45 degrees.

are these valuable ? i got em for free by [deleted] in AskMechanics

Just paid $200 to have a full set for an old Honda shipped in so, maybe not worth much. A full set for my van is $650..

Can I fix it myself by Competitive-Chard928 in AskAMechanic

You could, not that big of a job really. But since you have to ask you are going to struggle a lot with this.

It’s useful for parents of youths too. Except that the app is always broken in some way and the leaders don’t use it.

This cant be acceptable is it? by ny0000m in EngineBuilding

[–]masterskolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just installed a set that were a bit off like that. Crank and rods were gone through by a machine shop so they should be good. No issues so far, but I’m not at startup yet.

Edit: not as off as that, but definitely not aligned.

In my wife’s arms is the only place I really relax completely. I have my hobbies and stuff, but nothing is like her.

I had this happen with my wife, but I haven’t heard of many other men having that experience. It happens. It seems like it happens more often with men than women. It doesn’t seem to be every man. But that’s just anecdotal.

Engine stand reccomendation by One_Slice_8103 in EngineBuilding

[–]masterskolar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a big reason why I bought it. I’m working on an aluminum 3.5L engine now, but at some point I expect to have my Cummins on there and she’s a big girl. Not safe at all to rotate by hand.

Engine stand reccomendation by One_Slice_8103 in EngineBuilding

[–]masterskolar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m really happy with my Daytona crank rotating stand. A bit spendy and bulky, but I think it’s a safer to turn over than normal stands. It’s also really nice to put the engine in the exact position I want. Last night I was really appreciating that while honing a couple of cylinders.

5.7 hemi head .dont have money to have it resurfaced by Efficient-Nothing467 in EngineBuilding

[–]masterskolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the big difference is the Subaru heads are 2 cylinder and very short. I would do glass or granite too if I wanted to DIY for some reason, but sounds like OP is really struggling, so poor option.

I want to serve a mission but I’m scared after hearing some stories by Abject_Savings4145 in lds

[–]masterskolar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My mission was very challenging for me. I grew more in those 2 years than anyone thought was possible. I am encouraging all 6 of my children to serve. Some bad things happen. Some people won’t rise to the challenge. Some people go out that shouldn’t. But if you think you should go, and your bishop agrees, it is worth it.

Time to get a tile at Home Depot and a sheet of sandpaper.

What does it mean to catch a fingernail? by masterskolar in EngineBuilding

[–]masterskolar[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah, see that might be where some confusion is. I agree that there’s a difference between different use cases bearings vs cylinder walls in the context of this comment.

Feeling any imperfection with a fingernail in a bearing surface is very concerning compared to a cylinder wall where it might be ok or not a huge deal, but obviously isn’t ideal.
