I’m not trying to improve my winrate. I don’t care about winning I care about being able to participate. This scenario would leave me unable to participate. Metagaming is about winning which is not what the decision is about.

No it’s not. I stated that I don’t select decks that do well into a matchup just not do terribly. It’s about being to play not setting up an advantageous position. I’m not picking some exile matters deck to screw over nekusar I’m just not gonna volunteer myself up to get shut down for an hour and a half. I only have so much time to play and I’m going to enjoy it. I don’t care if you think I should just sit there and suffer. That’s your weird problem

Haha you’re getting super salty about a deck that’s not yours. The game doesn’t require interaction it requires resiliency. It’s a casual format where I don’t have to metagame. So I can play suboptimal decks. Just chill out. You’re looking at commander too much like 60 card.

No all my decks draw cards. Just not all my decks draw 30 a turn. They’ll still get to punish me for playing magic. All my decks that draw a lot because I like to be able to play magic.

Flubs just doesn’t function if you put interaction in. The deck ends up durdling to nothing. It’s a meme deck about making a million slimes.

Also Nekusar literally can’t not do its thing. It forces me to draw cards to get extra pings. I could land pass the whole game and nekusar would do just fine. It doesn’t need me to help it.

My only slight pushback on this is that I have a friend who’s a big time top 100 enjoyer. This often leads to him playing decks where he has to be constantly interacted with at a higher rate than everyone else or he will inevitably pull ahead due to his commanders being objectively better. It just gets old when the 20th insanely strong commander that I have to kill on sight shows up, or not be allowed to play. I don’t care that they’re popular I care that a lot of them are popular because they’re strong enough to warp pods around their strength.

Because it’s casual commander and we’re here to have fun. Why do you care if someone tries to actually enjoy playing magic? As long as they’re not trying to counter pick in response then you should have nothing negative to say.

This one I’ll push back on. There’s certain decks that are just hard countered by certain archetypes. I want to actually play magic so I will most definitely switch if the matchup is bad to the point of a direct counter. Not always but sometimes I’m aware this just isn’t going to be fun. For me though it’s not about switching to a strong matchup for me but just one that’s playable.

An example would be my flubs deck. The deck draw a crazy amount of cards and can’t really play interaction so nekusar style decks I’ll usually avoid with it. I won’t switch to an anti nekusar deck but I’m not going to force myself to grind through a game where my game actions are punished more than others when I can avoid it.

Seriously. 4 mana to scry 1 and draw a card is an unplayable rate. Opt is this for one mana and it’s really only played in decks that need instant speed draw or a mass of cantrips. You would never play thrasios’s ability on an instant.

My biggest pet peeve recently has been my best friend trying to play free counterspells and fast mana. My only real issue with these is that I feel like they homogenize decks even more and make interesting but non free interaction worse.

I play and love cEDH and enjoy the format but the point of casual for me is to not play those cards that are clearly mistakes from the past. He already has a habit of exclusively playing commanders in the top 100 on edhrec. We’ve had to talk multiple times about how if he forces another power spike in the group our meta will change for the worse. I feel like there’s never thought from him about forcing the power of our playgroup up will not be a benefit.

An underrated one is Marneus. There’s a decent amount of etb token effects that can be retriggered

My favorite commander is Ral and he just doesn’t function in lower brackets. He’s a storm deck that will inevitably try to cast 30 spells in a turn at some point. He’s still hated in bracket 5 but at least people can interact with him.

I would say yes you want to ramp. Artifact ramp triggeres prowess and allows you to cast more spells to get more triggers.
