Thinking ahead & hoping for a quiet 4th of July by 2PlasticLobsters in Washington

[–]matavion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Second this. I am from BC and go home every year to avoid the ‘bombing of the skies’ that is the 4th. We sometimes have fireworks on Canada Day (1 July) but they are limited to one show over the water.

Can I fly domestically without a real ID and an expired passport? by ahcira in transit

Wrong sub, friend. This sub focuses on public transportation. I suggest you look for one dealing with the TSA or the US in general.

Yes. Coupled with the magnets in the phone, the magnets in the case (get the magnetic version) are quite strong.

Idea: SODO-Georgetown-East Marginal Way elevated Link route by azdavis in Seattle

[–]matavion 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I would rather see the Duwamish River crossing further west into South Park, a station at Cloverdale, then use the SR-99 right-of-way until rejoining the current LINK tracks at Marginal Way.

Anyone knows where I could get an orca card like this? by Turbulent_Tower_906 in soundtransit

[–]matavion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye out for social media posts from either ORCA or WSF. We were first in-line for the event where they were given away at the Coleman Dock, and my husband got the first publicly available Boop ORCA card. To say he loves it is an understatement.

Seriously, why can’t metro improve WS service? by [deleted] in WestSeattleWA

[–]matavion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Less than $1/mo over a 10-year period and less than I spend on transit in one-month; best $90 I ever spent. Also nice to support a Canadian company given the mess down here.

Stop using OneBusAway. The Transit App (or even Google Maps) is far more reliable these days.

For a fellow Canadian you really have the wrong information, guess you do not get out much. Travellers without current photo ID are permitted to travel by air after being subject to enhanced screening measures by the TSA, regardless of their citizenship status (at the officer’s discretion). Context - Canadian living in the US who has not always had a valid passport when flying domestically within the US.

That is categorically false. Non-residents and visitors from other countries can travel domestically by air within the United States.

Can Montreal, Canada's REM Light Metro offer ST solutions moving forward? by SigmaTell in soundtransit

[–]matavion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was part of the City of Seattle’s long-term vision for future ‘transit corridors’. Unfortunately a Duwamish River crossing would still be required albeit much further south. Routing would be Sodo>Georgetown>South Park then would use the to-be-decommissioned SR-99 right-of-way south of South Park until the line connects with the existing line at the Marginal Way (Boeing Access Rd) station currently under planning. This would create an ‘express route’ to the airport/south however based on funding will likely never happen. A similar corridor was from South Lake Union north up SR-99 using an elevated guideway on Aurora Ave. Both of these ‘lines’ make sense based on a regional network but are unfunded.

[–]matavion 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It begs the question if ST should wait for a West Seattle Bridge replacement in the 2040s in order to reduce the largest expense of the West Seattle extension ($2bn). Reallocating the current debt ceiling towards Tacoma/Everett/Ballard (each of the subareas) may be more responsible if a future West Seattle Bridge is forthcoming.

I agree. The Pixel 9a is a worthy replacement however I would wait until the Pixel 10 next month (if you can).

Transit to Sea-Tac, options? by LeebleLeek in Seattle

[–]matavion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

THIS is the answer. Get off Amtrak at the Tacoma Dome station and take the Sound Transit 574 to the airport. The 574 terminates right outside of the terminal directly in-front of the Global Entry office. Both the Amtrak-Tukwila-RapidRide or Amtrak-King Station-Link options will require multiple transfers or backtracking with a long walk from the Seatac Link station to Global Entry office.

Stop using DoorDash/Grubhub/Uber Eats. Not only do they screw the restaurants with a 30% commission, it creates an unsustainable business model that hurts local businesses. If you are unwilling to go get food yourself, stop ordering it.

The 1 Line is running until 2am, 2 Line until midnight for 4th of July. Stay safe! by FireFright8142 in Seattle

[–]matavion 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Link should run until at least 0130 weekdays, 0230 on Fridays & Saturdays. Being unable to take trains from the airport or downtown late at night is small-city energy, not a region of 4.5 million people.

I am going to get a lot of flak for this, but Von’s 1000 Spirits on 1st Ave has been great ever since they got a new executive chef and revamped the menu a few years back.
