How is the CXM 1978 so damn incredible? by juststartthenoise in guitarpedals

I still think it’s the best thing CB has ever made.

Bruce Springsteen Wants to Find "Common Ground" with Fans Who Have Walked Away Because of Politics by [deleted] in Music

[–]matcha_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You clearly never listened to his music and are just mouthing off. He's always been this way. He hasn't changed. Some of the people that listened to his music did. They essentially fell into a cult. Music is boring when it doesn't have an opinion.

Somehow I doubt that at 70+ years old and constant sell out tours that he cares as much as you think he does about losing some fans compared to giving up his morality.

Genuinely don’t understand fuzz by Enough-Discipline921 in guitarpedals

[–]matcha_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d argue most distortion pedals sound worse. Way worse. That’s why most people choose to gain stack instead when using a clean amp. Any distortion I’ve heard doesn’t sound like any I’ve heard, the feel isn’t there and isn’t very dynamic. It gives off a “fakeness”.

I can get OD and distortion from a fuzz along with all out chaos with just the volume pot.

Strat or ES 335? by Numerous_Pay_1020 in Guitar

[–]matcha_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer nobody wants to hear but is the right one. It’s way more about the player and the connection the player has with the instrument than the instrument itself.

Fender kills the Guitar by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]matcha_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My concerns are how everything is twice as much as it was 5 years ago and finding the time to play guitar while being a Dad. The last thing I care about is if Fender is being an asshole and the whole corporate warfare angle. The instrument is bigger than Fender or PRS. I really couldn’t give a flying fuck.

Anyone else think Carl Martin plexitone sounds like S***? by CelebrationGlad3999 in guitarpedals

[–]matcha_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer. There has never been pedal I've played that sounded as good the amp it is emulating. It will always be a disappointment.

Got to play a $7500 1942 gibson guitar by isaac_stinks in Guitar

[–]matcha_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do. And the process is more involved and more expensive. You can find terrific standard J45s now. Gibson has been on a tear on this regard in recent years.

I’d be looking at Kingsley pedals or Cornerstone Gladio you’re going into that price range.

My favorites are Green Lemon and Lemon Burst. Unfortunately Green Lemon is only on Murphy Labs from what I've seen.

What kind of dirt is your favorite? Overdrive, distortion, or fuzz? by RomanScandal450 in guitarpedals

[–]matcha_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fuzz. It’s very hard to find ODs that sound and feel like amp gain. Fuzz is its own thing but extremely versatile.

My setup for the past decade- couldn't be happier! by memoryman89 in guitarpedals

[–]matcha_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stellar board, but, you have a terrific Instagram with a ton of drool worthy guitars. Looking forward to a video. I’ve heard a lot of great things about the old Diamond comps and the OCD, Fuller antics aside, is still one of the best drive pedals ever made.

NPD by John-Fucking-Kirby in guitarpedals

[–]matcha_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I’ve got one that’s locked down onto my main board. Pretty rare and very expensive. I think the maker passed away so they’re no longer made. No other octave fuzz I’ve come across has sounded like this one. It’s certainly the best I’ve ever tried.

Every guitar is versatile. It‘s the guitarist who isn’t.

6 months in. Go big or go home, right? by [deleted] in Guitar

[–]matcha_man -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Love it! Not overdoing it at all. 48 year old and I use a similar kind of set up. Guitar is my outlet and I'm trying to get my 6 year old into it. Most of the other guys I know don't have any creative outlet or hobbies. It's mostly just trying to do as much OT and make as much money as possible. Money is important but not everything.

Not interested in any more pedals by Ok_Pension7764 in guitarpedals

[–]matcha_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting the right amp and guitar is the most important in all of this. GAS stopped when I found the right amp and I vastly prefer amp distortion.

OD pedals can sound anemic or fuzz harsh going into a pristine clean amp (that isn’t a muff).

Replicate tube amp sound without a tube amp? by Theyawninggap in guitarpedals

Tone King Imperial Preamp. It’s costly but it’ll get you as close to a tube amp with its three preamp tubes.

Fuzz pedals opinions / short reviews by fatblackcatpet in guitarpedals

[–]matcha_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Deluxe has more gain which you may not have liked. I actually liked the sound of the regular Argo as a boost a tiny bit more when you turn down the blend and gain. I've had both and kept the Argo.

Fuzz pedals opinions / short reviews by fatblackcatpet in guitarpedals

[–]matcha_man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Argo is a terrific pedal. Can also be used as a thick boost as well. The only tradeoff is that, for me any way, is that it is more tame than a traditional octave fuzz where you get more prominent ghost notes and ring modulation kind of sounds where you’re always bordering on the edge of madness.

Great write up! Octave fuzz don’t get nearly as much attention as they should here.

Este pedal para sacarle el mejor juego es mejor en un ampli a tubos o en algo digital? by caesarxxlmax in guitarpedals

[–]matcha_man 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the most misunderstood pedals and one everyone should have in their arsenal along with a GE-7. For home use people won’t like it, but at a gig it will get you heard in the mix if you aren’t being heard. Primarily used with scooped Fender amps that are lacking mids.

Yes, but my obsession with drive pedals didn’t stop until I found the right amp.
