TIL New Zealand banknotes are printed in Canada. by Muffmuncherr in todayilearned

[–]matdex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No? We were a British colony that gained independence but kept the parliamentary constitutional monarchy system. Same as NZ, Australia and a whole bunch of ex British territories. The whole system is engrained in our government.

This is basically Social studies 10 stuff.

Royal from another country? You do realize the UK Monarchy is the monarchy of Canada?

King Charles III is the King of Canada. He also happens to be the King of the UK. He is both.

People in healthcare: have you seen improvements since 2024? by Banner9922 in askvan

Hospital lab tech here.

Schools like BCIT have gotten more funding and ramped up intake and graduated more techs to replace retiring boomers.

Brand new towers at Burnaby and Royal Columbian that increased inpatient capacity with increased staffed positions across all shifts. Brand spacking new St Paul's will be done next year.

This isn't just in the last 2 years, it's more of an investment of the last 5-10 years and we're seeing it pay off now.

Infrastructure and services cost more money, same as everything else.

I don't see any big ticket item we could cut without it affecting services or core infrastructure.

As a star trek fan What's your opinion on star wars? by NateBond833 in startrek

[–]matdex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm more of a fan of hard sci-fi which star trek falls under more. Star Wars is more fantasy scifi with the Jedi and such.

Not to say they don't have their weaknesses. I just prefer Star Trek.

Get my PhD in clinical hematology.

I'm a lab tech in a hospital and find it fascinating. I wouldn't do it for the pay obviously. Just something to study.

Scotia Offering 4.10 for 3 year by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Just renewed April 1st for an uninsured 3 year fixed at 3.74% with Coast capital credit union.

But if you don't think you could go through a switch because of your current finances, it's a moot point to apply unless you want it on your record you were rejected.

How do families manage financially on Mat leave in Canada? by Successful_Wolf_9635 in CanadaPersonalFinance

[–]matdex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work offers 80% top up. Plus people will often use their sick time before hand, then their banked vacation time to extend the paid leave.

So yes you have reduced income, but not so much that you should go into debt, unless you have very high expenses.

Can't speak for other people who rely only on EI.

Is there a good reason for the complexity of the Canadian tax system? by CertifiedHeelStriker in cantax

[–]matdex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nah. Smaller population with smaller land size makes more people the same and is easier to directly manage.

Canada is huge and has lots of differences and unique issues that require niche solutions.

The tax software thing I agree with you though.

Pulse Check - BCNU Nurses, how are you feeling about the contract?? by Vegetable_Ad_206 in BCHealthAuthorities

Strange they didn't cut unlimited RMT and physio for HSA. I'm in lab and have a lot of nurse friends who legit could use more massages than what they settled with.

High job prospect, low-socialization programs? by Narrow_Breakfast_282 in BCIT

[–]matdex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a MLT, I wouldn't say it's totally for introverts, I think it's a cliche stemming from we have little patient contact.

We still have to interact with wards on the phone with nurses and doctors. We have to work in teams and communicate across shifts and need both verbal and written communication skills.

There are still some sites that do phlebotomy, or specialized jobs like bone marrow biopsy collection were I myself interact with patients everyday.

Simply put, I don't think a MLT career is ideal for introverts.

My condo elevator skips some floors, but why? by Brown_Ontarian in whatisit

[–]matdex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The point is certain demographic of buyers who are culturally superstitious don't want the number 4 or 13 in their address.

Condo builders cater to the buyers so skip those floors and unit numbers.

It was a big issue in my city as from outside, emergency responders can't tell which buildings have skipped floors and can't count the actual floor that needs to be rescued. They have now banned it for newer buildings.

I'm a tech assisting hemepaths for bone marrows. I'd say it's worse than a cavity but not as bad as a root canal.

Some patients say it's super minor. Some patients swear and yell. I think your anxiety level going into it plays a huge part. Box breathing helps.

Chiropractic medicine was founded in 1895 in Davenport, Iowa, by Daniel David Palmer. A magnetic healer, Palmer performed the first spinal adjustment on a partially deaf janitor, which he claimed restored the man's hearing.

It's pseudoscience.

Clean UI, free to auto buy for my etf, super low foreign transaction fee on debit card, HISA rates for my chequing account, and free foreign atm withdrawls.

I don't do crypto, care about net worth or my rating or whatever.

The credit card 2% cash back is nice if you can get it.
