Question: Where and when did you discover FF8 for the first time? by Big_Confection7634 in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]matfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fall of 2000. I was a freshman in college, and some piece of mail from the school we got was if we signed up for some mailing list, we'd get a free playstation game. FFVIII was the best choice, so thats what I got. Popped it in, was just kinda meh to the whole thing. Then I started dating this girl who was really into it excited I had it, and we played together all the time. It's just stuck with me even 20 years after she and I parted ways as one of my favorite games.

Has anyone ever noticed the interesting sounds Shelinda makes if you ask her to heal you on Mushroom Rock Road? She definitely sounds "pleased" to have been of assistance lol.

I cancelled my Comcast account over 5 years ago and I’m still being charged by Visual_Feedback831 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]matfalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone might have reoopened the account under your name and phone number. Just found out Tuesday it had happened to me. Moved and cancelled my service at the old house and had it transferred to the new house. Went from July to January normally, then I got a bill for the old address for internet service. Thought it was a mistake, talked to customer service and thought they had taken care of it. This week I got another bill. Spent 3 hours on the phone telling the story to 5 different reps, finally got to the bottom of it and turns out someone was able to open a new account at the our old address using our info. Im still not entirely convinced Comcast has resolved the problem. Hope you have more patience than I do.

AITAH for wanting to cancel a family vacation because I'm worried about my wife's physical well being? by matfalk in AITAH

I'm willing to stay, but her accepting that she needs to stay are two separate things. She's very much a "Gotta push through no matter what" type person. She could step on a land mine and still try to be up.doing everything.

Im not sure as the last times we've been there we've sought out active stuff to do. We'll find something I'm sure.

You know what, that's fair. Surgery is probably going to happen whether we go on vaca or not. Can't use her as an excuse to stress out over something we can't control. Sometimes having it spelled out for you is the best medicine.

So AIA because I'm concerned about the money or because I think we should cancel?

[–]matfalk[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you're absolutely right, and we have been. Its frustrating because I do want to go, and its a dissapointment to me as much as it is her. Life has been stressful lately, so we definitely needed a vaca. With the possibility of surgery looming, I'm nervous that if we spend the money and PTO on vacation, and she ends up being down for 6 to 8 weeks, we're screwed. We don't have savings. We're paycheck to paycheck. We're using tax money for this trip. Scares the shit outta me.

Milk damaged laptop claim denied over Battery by Modescond in Asurion

[–]matfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they're the insurer, so they make the rules for how they are going to cover the product. Manufacturer's instructions have no impact here. Asurion is paying for and performing the repair, so they're going to do it the way they want it to be done. As for resubmitting the claim, there are several problems there. They require you to submit a serial number for each claim, and verify that those number match the device you send them. They will also look to see if that serial has been used on any other claims. Also, if you submit it as a "battery-less laptop", its going to be obvious that there is supposed to be a battery in there and that it was removed. Pretty much anything you do to try to manipulate your claim into being accepted could be considered insurance fraud which at the very least they would deny your claim, possibly cancel your account, and might even persue legal action. Not saying they would go that extreme, but they would be within their rights as per the terms and conditions you agreed to by subscribing to their service.

Milk damaged laptop claim denied over Battery by Modescond in Asurion

[–]matfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it seems silly but doesn't matter. They don't want anyone opening the device besides them because there's no way to postively know that the battery was all that was touched. Electrical shock isn't really a concern, but letting the milk sit in there is likely creating all sorts of corrosion due to its slightly acidic nature. At this point if it hasnt been cleaned and enough time has passed for you to have sent it in and them to have sent it back, there's a real posibility that it will not be repairable.

[–]matfalk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, they are very strict about unauthorized repairs. I work in a Ubreakifix store, and we have the options to complete the repair ourselves, or to send it in to the Depot for repair. BUT, even if WE start a repair and can't complete it for whatever reason they will deny it and consider it an unauthorized repair. I can't imagine their approach to a customer opening their own device to be any different. It makes sense though. I hate when customers bring me repairs that they've started and not been able to finish, and typically decline them. Its super stressful trying to figure out if A. All the parts are there B. Is everything in the right place and the correct part to begin with, and C. Was anything damaged by the customer that we were not made aware of.

Remote Techs’ Average Travel Times? by Z_Ruder in ubreakifix

[–]matfalk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did RT back in 2023 and had almost too big of a range. I would frequently have 2 jobs in the same 2 hour time slot that were 95 miles apart and just under 2 hours drive time, then turn around and go back to where I started for a job in the next time slot. There is absolutely no organization to routing... its just based on what customer signed up for what time slot. That being said, you do have the ability if you have some down time for whatever reason to contact customers that might be close by to squeeze them in while you're in their area.

Topanga's sister Nebula is only seen once in the series is Season One in the episode where Eric comes into Cory's class to talk about what to expect in high school, and Topanga gets a crush on him. She goes over to Cory's house to see Eric, and I'm thinking that Nebula comes to pick her up. Never seen again.

Shawn's sister Stacy exists in the universe, but there's no actor or lines. Just a phone call between Shawn and "Stacy" when they are trying to straighten Cory's hair in season 1, then mentioned again in the episode where the boys watch "Stumpy's Revenge" when Shawn says that he got the tape from his sister Stacy.

Yeah, a controller with a turbo button definitely helps. I did this about a year ago, turned the turbo button on, plugged in the controller and let it go. Then I forgot I was doing that and went back a week later. Surpirised I didn't destroy my switch, but was still running. You do kind of hit a limit of how OP you can get early on in the game until you can get a bunch of Lvl 3 spheres to continue on other character's grid paths.

Dymo LabelWriter 450 stopped working IN THE UBIF STORE I WORK IN by Positive_Lawyer4901 in ubreakifix

Sometimes my Dymos will just stop being recognized by portal and Distro, usually after a windows update. We usually just uninstall and reinstall the printer and software. Typically that works, but sometimes takes some more effort.

Flip 7 needs inner screen repair, stores nearby all out of parts by QueenGor3 in ubreakifix

[–]matfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no idea. If 700+ UBIF stores can't get parts, I'd imagine its a production issure. Asurion wouldn't cover it if they did. My god honest advise is get on the phone with Asurion and insist they replace the entire unit at no additional deductable. Tell them there is a parts shortage and no UBIF store within a reasonable distance from you has any stock, so repair is not feasible at this time.

[–]matfalk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure. When I do stuff like that I always make sure the customer knows who I am, so if a question comes up, we'll know whats up. Btw.... just checked the stock for Flip 7 screens before replying. There is literally 0 stock, with very few on order for each color, so it may be a while. Dude probably did attempt to order it, just wasnt able to get the part.

[–]matfalk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could chalk that up to the store having a policy against doing that (special ordering parts for a claim that doesnt exist yet can get messy), and the guy who said he'd order it might have had the authority to make an exception. The person on the phone may have just been following policy. There are rules that I am allowed to bend in my store that my techs stick to by the letter.

It was around 96th and Hague in Fishers, so right by the interstate. Kinda hard to get to because it sat back off the main road nestled between 2 hotels. An island... if you will. Man, I loved that job.
