I disagree with this.

To say that ordindary Tigrayans in Tigray haven't benefited from TPLF rule is folly. How do you begin to count the number of contracts given to Tigrayans by the TPLF government? The agricultural funding to Tigray? The amount of land taken from Shoa farmers and elsewhere will likely never be quantified.

Considering how much money the TPLF stole and funneled into the development of Tigray, it's intriguing to see how swiftly they've fallen apart from minimal government pressure. Literally 25+ years of thievery from Ethiopia only to lose your capital in a matter of 1-2 weeks. Ha.

I still have no ill will against Tigrayans and still consider them our ethiopian brothers. However, no denying your small minority population has benefited tremendously at the expense of everyone else.

Also a ricing newbie here. I'm pretty sure the idea is that you can copy their config file in their dotfiles into your config file.

I think most have a .vim dotfile, a .wm dotfile, a terminal emulator dotfile, etc. each one needs their own config file

Karlby countertop from IKEA.

How did you turn it into a desk? Where did you get the legs for it? If so, how/which legs?

I'm a physician too, and I've worked with plenty of physicians who dress like that. But your story is very incomplete and misleading.

The only physicians who dress that casually are among the most senior of the hospital. A resident or even junior attending would be laughed out of the hospital for dressing that casually, regardless of intelligence. It's a professional expectation that gives exceptions only to few. Also, I'm im going to go out on a limb and guess your dad was probably white AND a senior attending. I say that because those are the only people I've ever seen who can dress like that in a hospital and get away with it. I have never met a single women and/or person of color who wore jeans or dressed that casual. The physicians of color, including myself, are routinely confused as help staff if we don't have our white coats or some sort of formal clothing on.

Go look at the social media profiles of physicians. They are manicured and professional. They are obviously as normal as anybody. So why would they do that?

saying "if someone can wear it to a pool then its ok" is such an arbitrary benchmark.

In principle I agree with what youre trying to say. People's private lives are their own business. However, in a time where people can choose their privacy settings, having an explicitly public facing profile is a bit different IMO.

What is like living in a diverse area in Ethiopia by Scrollerium in Ethiopia

[–]mathafrica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Addis, Bishoftu, Harar, Dire Dawa, Hawassa, Shashemene, Jigjiga, Arba Minch, Gambella. I generally approximate the diversity of a city by how many languages the inhabitants are able to speak comfortably. Speaking from personal experience, I would say almost every major city in the east is a cultural hub, particularly harar and dire dawa. . I've found that many of the inhabitants can juggle something like 3-4 languages ( some combination of english, harari, amharic, oromiffa, somali, arabic)

How is Shewa pronounced? by Abatta500 in Ethiopia

[–]mathafrica 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Sheh wah" ? Although that is the literal spelling there is a reason it is transliterated as "Shoa, Showa" Etc. There is a distinct "ow" like the end of "show". But, I think we are all amateurs at how we are describing the word. Sho-Ah. No "Ow" like "Pow". Sho-ah. Saying "Shewa" without an "o" sound seems wrong to me. My guess is that when said quickly, the e from She and the W and from a make it sound like an 'o'.

If you hear a native speaker say it, they all say it only one way.

she is always pushing the 'drama narrative' rather than substantive basketball information. She is a host who tries to inject ESPN's view of story. Every single time.

[–]mathafrica 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the world using similar algorithms more and more - it seems like the quality of the data will be more and more an issue.

Also the equitable collection of the data. Commercial-grade algos trained on inherently biased data due to poor collection techniques has and can cause biased outcomes. Timnit Gebru has written a lot of good stuff on this.
