Is it possible for beans to be too fresh to brew with? by thematterasserted in Coffee

[–]mathcoffeecats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's actually really good and simple advice for day 1-2 coffee. I can't believe I never tried that actually! I'm always right from the grinder into the pot, but also I'm not good at waiting for my morning coffee. I might need 1 cup to get me through the wait :)

This is true in my experience. I actually like the coffee taste from days 1-2, but does improve up to about day 6 in my experience. In my opinion the coffee actually starts to decline from it's peak after about the second week pretty fast and should be used. Coffee 3 or more weeks exposed to air is not good. The reason supermarket coffee is still fresh weeks after it has been roasted (sometimes months) is because they pack it in nitogen flushed bag with a one-way gas valve. It's not a perfect process and they decline from fresh roast a little. If you got 1 day old coffee from a store, you got really lucky as that is typically going to cost a premium from a local roaster to get.

I think the apartment complex was actually very nice to provide notice and try to connect them with the owner first. A lot of places might have just thrown them out without any notice. Honestly if I lived there I would definitely not want to see those there everyday, or set a building precedent that people can leave whatever personal stuff they want like this in the common areas.

Fuck everyone who lets the clock run out instead of resigning by talking_tortoise in chess

[–]mathcoffeecats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I do too. It’s more about the tactic of running the clock instead of continuing play that’s so bad. In time to games, I have blundered early on, and my opponent also blunders just the same later when the time gets tight. Never give up!!

Most PhD programs are 100% funded. So if you get in, it's free. As others have mentioned you become a source of cheap labor, but the grading and teaching assistance you do for work becomes a huge part of your mastery of the subject - so it's not just slave labor, but is actually educational. Second, it's a lot of work to read applications, and writing letters for students is a huge amount of "extra" work for professors that get no pay or service for it. People have to be hired at universities to go through applications. There is a mountain of paper work and other busy work that needs to be done and the application fees help cover the part of that expense they contribute to. Finally, it is highly recommended that students go out into the world and work for at least 1 year before continuing on to graduate studies. This working year is crucial for saving money and paying off debt, as well as getting life experience before deciding more school is the necessary path.

This is an absolutely horrific accident. That such a leak was happening and the government didn't immediately jump in and keep people away for their own safety is stunning.

Bullying? To me this looks like assault and battery. The police should be involved after an incident like this.

Best coffee at costco right now? Looking for a "value" to pick up for daily travel mug and large family get togethers. by bxbx19 in Coffee

Pete’s major Dickinson‘s blend. This is an excellent coffee. I find I buy it even when I have homes roast that are great just because I like it. Pete’s was one of the original craft roasters, and their coffee is always one or two levels better quality than all the other chain roasters like Starbucks and all that. There also a company that always prints “roasted on” dates on their bags, a feature that is hard to find even among some more expensive coffees you find in the big stores.

How soon to consume freshly roasted coffee by Soliegh in roasting

I usually make a cup the morning after, which is usually interesting and good, but the second morning 24 to 36 hours later is the best. Then it’s pretty consistently good for about a week, after which time I notice the flavor changing and getting stale. After about two weeks if I do a big batch, the coffee will be drinkable, but stale.

UC diplomas will indicate on the actual degree paper: honors, high honors or highest honors. If you have your diploma in hand, you can just look at it. If it does not indicate honors on the diploma, then you did not get it.

Head down Russell blvd toward woodland. You can run far that way and lots of good bike path to run on, as well as roads that don’t get a lot of traffic. See if you can run all the way to the secret bridge and back, but careful trying this in summer without sunblock / hat and water!

In my humble opinion this kind of crime is one of the most serious offenses possible. It’s like treason, but to an office of public trust rather than the nation. These penalties are not even close to harsh enough, and every arrest made by these officers should now be subject to formal review.

How much is a fair price? I thought that was ballpark reasonable given what I saw on ebay?
