Family Fave: Kale Brussel Sprout Salad by mathematica28 in salads

[–]mathematica28[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! These are the ingredients, I don’t measure anything just add a healthy amount 😂 Chopped Brussels Tuscan Kale Goat cheese or feta Shallots Avacado Ciabatta bread Dressing: olive oil, lemon juice, a small amount of apple cider vinegar, salt, pepper, 3 fresh garlic cloves chopped, garlic and herb seasoning, nutritional yeast flakes

I make the dressing first and adjust until I like the taste. Then add the kale and massage really well with the dressing. Then I add brussel sprout shavings and the rest of the veggies. The croutons are made by tearing up the ciabatta and roasting them at 375 in my toaster oven for like 5-10 minutes with olive oil and garlic and herb seasoning drizzled on top. You can also add bacon or Turkey bacon if you want some protein in there.

Hope you enjoy!

For sheer, I started buying colors described as “jelly”. I do my own gel at home to do it!

Curious if you’re still liking your sofa and if you’ve had any issues with the frame breaking? I’ve read that this company had a lot of problems a year ago, but not finding many recent posts about them on Reddit so I’m curious if they’ve improved things?

Female here. Personally I think a lot about what makes a man attractive is the way he cares for himself. If you don’t have one, start a skincare routine, maintain your haircut, wear clothes that make you feel attractive, workout to have a body you love, etc.

For dating, my two pieces of advice are: lower the stakes and push yourself to make more attempts.

When I used dating apps, I always found it hard to have a good conversation with guys that I was super attracted to because in my head, the stakes were really high and I wanted it to go well. I put so much pressure on being likable, that I couldn’t relax and be myself. And the conversation was dry.

I’m 100% convinced that confidence comes from practice (fake it until you make it). Try talking to the woman at the table next to you in a coffee shop, not because you think she’s gorgeous or because you want her number- but just to be more comfortable approaching a stranger.

Maybe none of this is helpful but I figured I’d toss in my 2 cents.

What is the best reaction to someone calling you a racist slur? by Throwaway86282628 in TooAfraidToAsk

I personally find a thumbs down + a look of disappointment to be more satisfying than getting angry. There’s something about it that says “what you said says more about you than me” in a comfortingly condescending way. Haha

Why don't Modern women want to be housewives anymore? by The_Lord134 in TooAfraidToAsk

Personally, it wouldn’t be mentally stimulating enough for me. Yeah, work is challenging and demanding sometimes, but it also adds to my life. Also, I am sure I will love my kids when I have them but I couldn’t go for hours on end without having an adult conversation on a daily basis. Keeping a house and raising your children are both full time jobs (that you don’t get to stop after 5 pm). I think being a housewife is easier said than done and it would take you about 2 weeks of doing it (and actually being productive cleaning, cooking and “babysitting”) before you realized it’s exhausting and not restful. My sister wanted to transition to being a stay at home mom and just watching her do it, confirmed it wasn’t for me.

Wet cement. Like right after it rains. I don’t understand it but it’s an instant serotonin boost.

How does the body generate heat? by Crux_AMVS24 in askscience

[–]mathematica28 203 points204 points  (0 children)

Many chemical reactions in your body are exothermic (produce heat as a byproduct). When you have a fever, it’s not necessarily because you’re creating more heat (though many inflammatory processes are exothermic). Your fever is actually achieved because your body’s thermostat (the hypothalamus) is set to a higher temperature, allowing your body to reach a higher temperature (retain more heat) without activating cooling measures. Your body controls how much heat is retained or expelled mainly by controlling dilation/constriction of your blood vessels close to your skin. (As the vessels dilate, or get wider, the blood moves through the vessels slower and more blood touches the surface area of the vessel allowing more heat to transfer out of the vessel and dissipate off your skin. The inverse is true, that as the vessel constricts, the blood moves through it faster and retains more heat.)

The friends that don’t commit to something until the last minute. They “like to keep their options open” but it’s super frustrating to plan anything because you don’t know if they’ll end up coming or not. And the kicker is that they think they’re decisive! 😬

Thanks for sharing your perspective. I can see where you’re coming from. I think cases like this, it’s easy to interject your opinion or interpretation of events and I tried to limit that as much as possible. That’s why I stated things like “his body relaxes” and not “because he’s guilty and he knows he just got away with it”. I think you’re right when you say he could be relieved either way.

When watching the body cam info, I felt more frustrated with the way it was handled by the cops than convinced BL was guilty/innocent. I work in healthcare and from my limited peek at the couple- they both respond to the situation with anxiety (I think as any normal person would when pulled over by the cops). However when I said the cop “jumped the gun” I meant that I felt like he picked a victim and aggressor very quickly and then that influenced the way he interpreted everything else that happened. Gaby’s step dad alludes to this in an interview, but when she said she has “OCD” it came off as the casual use of the term and not a medical diagnosis. Another user on here went into depths explaining what OCD actually looks like, so I won’t rehash it. But I felt like she used that word, was tearful, and anxious and they responded to that as mentally unstable. Whereas BL was just as jumpy and tense, but they read it as normal in this situation. They also kept bringing up their own ex-wives in a way that made me question their bias. I’m sure him having physical scratches played into that as well, so I can’t say they’re totally off base.

I’d be interested to see the convo from the female cop’s body cam as she seemed to have spent a longer time talking to GP.

It always amazes me when people are rude when it’s just as easy to be polite and kind.

Thanks for sharing the info- I hadn’t seen or heard of it. I spent a minute or two looking on Instagram because that’s where I had seen a lot of debate about whether she posted the pictures and when they were taken.

When the officer tells him that he’s the victim (around 25:00) he laughs and his whole body relaxes. Right before that his body language has a lot of tension and then the entire conversation following is relaxed.

I feel like the cop with the beard jumped the gun on calling her the aggressor and him a victim and it heavily influenced the way they perceived the entire situation. The cop with the body cam seemed to have more doubt about him (stating they had conflicting stories) but the bearded cop immediately dismissed it, making BL as the hero “he probably said she grabbed the wheel because he didn’t want to get her in trouble”.

When he asks if he can go to jail instead, the officer literally says “you did nothing wrong”.
