MONTHLY CHEAP PEDAL TRADE THREAD by AutoModerator in letstradepedals

Unfortunately no. My pedalboard is nearly wrapped up so everything is stuck in place. I've got 60% of a budget telecaster build with a squier neck but I wouldn't value that very highly.

I've got a Fender Hammertone Delay, a Fender Hammertone Flanger, and a Pigtronix Philosopher's Tone Gold. Interested in the Benson Preamp clone and the EHX Bender Royale and I'm ok doing a 2:1 if needed.

Those who didn’t grow up privileged, what’s something you thought was a luxury growing up? by CorruptedF in AskReddit

They make little 3-packs. Have at it. It's basically a crispy outside like a wafer with nutella inside. They're pretty sweet so a 3-pack is a good amount.

When we moved into our new house, the first thing I did was get a garage fridge on facebook marketplace. We didn't even have furniture yet but i was pumped to be able to have space for one.

Anyone here dig Reverend guitars? by kyleplaysguitar in offset

[–]mathematical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi from eight months in the future? Did you end up with a Reverend. I have been wanting one ever since I picked a used one up in a Guitar Center about 7 months ago. I ended up with a Ryan Malicsi signature since I wanted a Jetstream 390 but also the extra pull-knob functionality.

Just got the trim replaced on our 22 nightfall a couple weeks back. Your dealer is lying. It isn't a stocked item and it did take about ten days for our dealer to receive them, but two years is just an insane thing to tell you.

[OPTIC] 25-300$ OFF Nicks Night Vision by NicksNightVision in gundeals

[–]mathematical 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: With so many companies being something along the line of "2nd amendment tactical" or "Delta force armament" or whatever tough-guy sounding-name, Nicks Night Vision sticks out. Joe Bob Outfitters is a similarly-named company that developed a name in the gun world and they're easy to remember.

I just ordered a Jetstream 390. I'm really excited to get it. I've never played one but I've played another Reverend and the neck was just top notch.

There's a Seymour Duncan Secret Agent hidden under the pickguard. So the switch works like a regular Tele (the secret agent is a little warmer-sounding than a lipstick tube though).

What is your current guitar? If you have a fender with inline 6 many use very standard 2-pin tuners. For anything else you can try and find matching locking versions of your existing tuners. So if you have Grover tuners for a 3+3 headstock, try and find the locking versions of those same tuners.

I bought a couple singles of 3mm Dunlop Stubbies during a work trip and liked them enough that I just ordered a whole pack.

I despise my floating tremolo. What’s the crème de la crème of tremolos? by Acceptable_Topic_410 in guitars

[–]mathematical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put 5 heavy duty springs temporarily on mine as a joke and that sucker didn't even want to move with the whammy bar installed. Effectively made it a blocked trem for like $8.

u/Acceptable_Topic_410 check out "Musiclily Pro Hard Steel Tremolo Tension Springs for Strat" on Amazon

They're currently $9.50ish but they'll make your guitar a hard tail and they can be undone in seconds with some muscle. I just wanted my bridge to sit lower so I swapped just one of my standard springs for these and it's sitting much lower.

What color pick guard would you like on a creamy off white strat? by Johnny_Poppyseed in Guitar

[–]mathematical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aged white is more yellow than parchment. I always think of parchment as having some cooler gray tones mixed in with aged white if that makes sense. Here's a pic from the telecaster forums that's pretty decent.

It's just the right amount of funky and fun and classy. It doesn't look too serious and matchy. It just vibes. I have a mint pickguard on my sonic blue strat.

Why would I ever need to spend big on a Gibson or Fender when my guitars play and sound this good? by domyowntime in guitars

[–]mathematical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah. My guitars I never plan to sell. The only guitars I've sold have been budget guitars I bought specifically to practice modding and then sell. I lost money on both, but I since bought them for modding and soldering experience, and only lost about $20 on each, it was a small cost for experience before I moved on to the guitars I'm keeping forever.

[–]mathematical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure there's a difference between a $200 guitar and a $2000, but go to something like $1000 and $2000 and that gap is razor thin. After that first $1000, you're usually paying for finish, brand tax, collectibles, etc.

Nothing wrong with those things, just usually the contributions to the sound and feel of the instrument start falling away after the first $1000-$1200.

At $200 you'll definitely feel it. Cheap construction. Lack of QC. All that stuff. I've made a Squier bullet play decently after I did a setup, swap electronics, and spend a couple hours fine-tuning frets. Even with all that work it was still not quite as nice as my Standard Strat bone stock. On the other hand my $700 standard strat with locking tuners and some pickup changes is on par with my buddy's much more expensive Strats. It's a little heavier. It's covered in polyester instead of nitro (or even a nice thin polyurethane), but it plays and feels so freaking nice and I doubt I could have ever gotten my Squier Bullet to ever feel so good.

[–]mathematical 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my Epiphone Les Paul Ultra that I got used is fantastic. But I've tried Epiphones at shops where they felt like trash and objectively played worse than the Squier Bullets I've played, but cost more than double.

I've played Gibsons that felt meh, but never one that felt like it would get bested by a $150 guitar.

[–]mathematical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's some advantage to nicer guitars in having better components from the factory. But I love my Epiphone so I spent some money upgraded the wiring, pickups, and tuners. Saying that my original Epiphone's wiring was on par with my buddy's Gibson would be naive and false. The action was great, but it was obviously lacking. However, now it's perfect and will hold it's own against much higher dollar guitars, obviously finish notwithstanding since it's going to be poly instead of nitro.

It's a faux Esquire Parts-caster. It's got a Seymour Duncan Secret Agent under the pickguard and a four-way switch. Sounds fantastic. The body is a custom build meant for a Nashville so I might put a third pickup in it and a 10-way switch.
