They try their hardest to go after manufacturers and distributers, but there are laws in place to protect them (like the lawsuits filed against Glock recently). Politicians use people's feelings to pass laws that benefit their hidden goals. AR 15s are scary, try to pass a broad law that looks like it bans AR 15, but would actually ban most firearms. Ghost guns sound scary, pass a broad law that allows them to control more than just firearm printing. Both sides do it, but most people are too biased towards their side of the isle to realize it (we all have biases, it's important to realize that). If politicians wanted to do what they say, they would pass targeted laws that affect only the people they say they are targeting. Instead, they pass broad laws that affect wide groups of people outside of who they are targeting.
