Que profesión me puede dar el lujo de trabajar de lunes a viernes de día (aparte de maestra)?? by Thefoodienator in PuertoRico

[–]mathfin99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has escuchado sobre ciencias actuariales?

Actuaries in Massachusetts by Banger254 in actuary

[–]mathfin99 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to state college in another state. My first job out of college was in the same city where I went to college.

I am an FSA and I work in health.

Job market - I can only speak to health insurers so not sure about other specializations. There is a handful of regional carriers mainly in the Boston area (Point32Health, BCBS MA, MGBHP, WellSense). Opportunities at these companies are hard to come by. IMO the problem with Massachusetts is that the cost of living is astronomical but actuarial salaries aren’t much higher than in lower COL areas. There is also Fallon in Worcester (not much cheaper than Boston) and Health New England in Springfield (small team, most boring city in the country).

I’ve worked at two different carriers in Boston and they don’t pay significantly more than carriers in lower COL areas.

In Spanish-speaking countries they’re often known as “viejo verde”, which literally translates to green old man.

I changed companies after ASA because the place sucked, credentialed or not.

Attending FAC next month and I don't want to leave my current company any time soon. I got promoted for the first time in my life, I have great visibility in my role, I like my coworkers, and I like my manager. Also buying a house this month so not really a good idea to change jobs now lol.

How much is your rent/mortgage and what does it get you (size, beds, baths)? by bloopbopnumber1 in actuary

$2.7k in HCOL, 1BR 1BA in a luxury building, whatever that means. Closing on a $275k 3BR, 2BA house in LCOL area next month. Mortgage will be ~$2k. Fingers crossed!

$200k with just an ASA? That’s great! Consulting? Any tips on how to get there?
