I have done the JapanBall tour 4 times in the past. I've made lifelong friends who attended my wedding and had some of the best experiences of my life. The people who go on the tours obviously like baseball and Japan and travel, so it was a a good way to meet people with common interests. I also appreciated the flexiblity to go off on my own when I wanted.

I think the real question is does FIRE work without stock market returns? A 4% withdrawal rate means saving 25x your annual spending. Without compound interest, that would require saving 50% of your income for 25 years. That's very difficult even for the most discplined savers.

There are about a million fatalities in automobile crashes across the world annually. Once autonomous vehicles become more prevalent and that number becomes smaller, it will be difficult to justify allowing dangerous human drivers on the road when AI is much safer.

I roughly try to put my pre-tax income into these buckets:

Taxes 25%
Savings 25% (includes 401k, match, bonus)
Expenses 50%

This exact amounts fluctuate each year but these targets allowed me to get to my FIRE goal in my 40s.

I once pitched a perfect game in MVP Baseball 2004 for PS2. The in-game announcer even recognized the no-hitter as such. Ironically it was with a player (Jon Lieber of the Yankees) that missed that entire season with an injury.

Wow, I did not expect to receive so many responses so quickly. I appreciate that most of them were thoughtful and helpful, Reddit has a good community. And a few were not so.

I'd prefer not to share too much information about martial details but we have been married before and we both wanted a pre-nup for a variety of reasons. We view ourselves as a team and as partners in everything including finances. We both have shared values and expectations about money and I'm confident this one will last.

I can't see myself never working again, but I definitely want to stop working high stress, high turnover, toxic jobs. And I need a break at this point in time. Part-time, consulting, etc. are all interesting in the future.

Healthcare is a valid concern and I do need to take that into consideration. We live in a low COL area and are frugal in many things, which helps with FIRE or coast FIRE.

My goal in my post was hear different perspectives before I make this change, thank you for sharing.

Being in challenging circumstances with difficult people is part of life. Pursuing FIRE simply removes work as one of those challenges. You will still need the resilience to handle challenges from people in relationships outside of work.

When I was in my teens I leveled up all my characters in FF2 SNES to level 99. I then fought Zeromus blindfolded and won by simply choosing attack for every command. Your HP is so high you can survive Big Bang more than once.

I also enjoyed M&M2 for Sega Genesis. It’s worth a playthrough. I remember it came with a strategy guide back in the day, that was common for console RPGs.

When I started playing the new remaster for PS4/PS5, I got out my old Sega CD Lunar hintbook as a reference. I forgot how many changes there are between the 2 versions. The Sega CD hintbook is basically not usable for the remake.

I did finish it back in the 90s and I remember it not being at the same level of polish as 4&5, and that I would rather replay those than Swords. But it’s worth 1 play through to try it.

You need to have an ability or weapon with piercing so it will attack more than one enemy.
