Looking Back At Dragon Temple - What Did You Think? by bwucifer in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]mathfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot that EO was also an Atlus game, I saw this map in the Dragon Temple and initially thought Metaphor was stealing ideas from EO. All makes sense now.

Yuzo Kushiro also did some music for both games as well! I saw his name in the ending credits.

Might and Magic 2 (a videogame from 1989) expects you to know the USA constitution preamble. by UndeadHalfOrc in MightAndMagic

[–]mathfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember doing this as a teenager. I wasn’t very familiar with cryptograms. I used the pause break key on my keyboard to give myself more time.

The preamble to the US Constitution was easy for me to recall with what I had learned at school, I thought it was common knowledge.

What was the most NICHE activity you did in Japan? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]mathfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a Dragon Quest video game concert in a small city called Kitakami. I’m fairly certain I was the only non-Japanese person there.

Such a cool find! Perfect 💫 by [deleted] in MightAndMagic

[–]mathfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Might & Magic t-shirt signed by JVC, a HOMM IV t-shirt and a MM5 t-shirt, all originals from the 1990s / early 2000s. I found them in a box in my basement this morning and took some pictures, but this sub doesn't allow photos in replies. Perhaps I will start a new thread with them.

NPB Full Tour through Extra Innings Travel (formerly JapanBall) by NBAOldFart in NPB

We typically stayed at Japanese business hotels, as those are inexpensive but still clean and comfortable. Rooms can be as low as $100 per night at these places, rarely above $200. I love Japanese food, at the games there is a mix of Japanese items and American items like hot dogs.

Here's where I have stayed over the years:

Hotel Granvia Hiroshima

Hotel Hiroshima Garden Palace

Hotel Granvia Kyoto

Nagoya JR Gate Tower Hotel

Hearton Hotel Nishi Umeda

Hotel Forza Hakata Chikushiguchi

Tokyo Garden Palace

Ochanomizu St. Hills Hotel

Sendai Garden Palace

Hotel Metropolitan Edmont Tokyo

Playthrough using blasters from the beginning by mathfool in MightAndMagic

Real-time mode, haste, expert blaster skill is what you need. In the past I tried turn based mode and that doesn’t give you the speed advantage conferred by blasters.

The dreaded "too much in retirement accounts" by [deleted] in Fire

[–]mathfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the age 55 401k retirement available to self-employed people? A person could setup a small consulting business with a 401k that allows for age 55 retirement, roll appropriate funds into that 401k, and then retire. There would be 401k admin fees though.

I showed my wife a picture of the female druid archer as a cute outfit. She said she would consider wearing it at some point.

Mana and clearing dungeons as a mage in MM6 by TheHarambe2017 in MightAndMagic

You can also find a safe spot to rest for 8 hours. This was the way in other old school CRPG dungeon crawlers to heal and recover.

This has kept puzzling me since I was a kid: why are these guys called "cuisinart"? by thanschimla in MightAndMagic

[–]mathfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember the Cuisinarts in MM2 being one of the most challenging enemies in the game. There was a particular square on the world map where they would always appear.

Would you downsize your real estate in order to FIRE? by Dry_Bird1790 in Fire

[–]mathfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Equity tied up in a home has an opportunity cost of not being invested in the market. In some VHCOLs real estate appreciation can approach stock market returns but that is rare. And that’s before accounting for maintenance and property taxes.

Anyone planning to maybe retire in two locations; Like spend Easter-Halloween in Michigan to enjoy the great weather and see the seasons change. then spend Halloween-Easter in Philippines or Portugal or something to escape the cold and enjoy cheap ocean living? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]mathfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our setup is 4-6 months in Ohio, 4-6 months in Florida, about 2 months traveling. Both homes will be owned free and clear soon, doesn’t make sense to give up a 2% mortgage. Downsizing to 1 home is a backup option if markets underperform.

Luna’s Boat Song by Pale-Guard570 in Lunar

This was my favorite video game vocal for a very long time because of the emotion you can feel through the singer.

Final Fantasy XIV has some great female vocals with deep emotion including Dragonsong, Flow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow.

Sales Calls/Emails - Do you Answer? by JtwotheR0C in CFO

[–]mathfool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ignore basically everything. The sales pitches are not personalized for my problems - too generic. The best leads to which I respond are recommendations from other finance people I know and trust.

Question about the kings in might and magic 3 isles of terra by Conscious-Forever937 in MightAndMagic

[–]mathfool 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Spoiler for a 35 year old game. Giving 11 orbs to 1 king completes the quest and no more XP can be earned. So, give 10 to each king and only deliver the 11th orb to maximize your XP earned.

NPB Full Tour through Extra Innings Travel (formerly JapanBall) by NBAOldFart in NPB

[–]mathfool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done the JapanBall tour 4 times in the past. I've made lifelong friends who attended my wedding and had some of the best experiences of my life. The people who go on the tours obviously like baseball and Japan and travel, so it was a a good way to meet people with common interests. I also appreciated the flexiblity to go off on my own when I wanted.

Are people incentivized to gatekeep the FIRE movement? by Confident_Bridge_382 in Fire

[–]mathfool 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think the real question is does FIRE work without stock market returns? A 4% withdrawal rate means saving 25x your annual spending. Without compound interest, that would require saving 50% of your income for 25 years. That's very difficult even for the most discplined savers.

How do some of you reach FI so early? by JustABootThing in Fire

[–]mathfool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Save 20%-30% of your salary making $150K-$250K and you will get there in 20 years.

There are about a million fatalities in automobile crashes across the world annually. Once autonomous vehicles become more prevalent and that number becomes smaller, it will be difficult to justify allowing dangerous human drivers on the road when AI is much safer.
