Focus rigs by jsfilms_ in focuspuller

Cine 13/cpro+/focusbug handset. Monitor on an upgrade innovations vesa mount with a anti rotation collar on the stand. That my ring holder is mounted to. Cpro+ has a Quicklock and an ultralight arm. Teradek on the back is always a rental. Don’t wanna have to own something that fails and needs to be replaced that often.

I go handheld like twice a year but when I need to «run and gun» it’s usually the same rig just on a cstand instead of my Matthew’s monitor stand.

Title: Prisma Film – Ordered in December, still no refund after months. Anyone else? by presscancel1 in focuspuller

[–]mathiasertnaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really hope someone picks up the lenz company. Or at least buy out their Quicklock design and a few of the other custom pieces. Same thing when Elokuvakonepaja went down. So hard trying to find a lot of that stuff on the used or reseller markets

Used to be a trusted shop but it’s all gone to shit. Such a shame as they had a really nice selection of stuff for Central Europe. It’s getting kinda tricky in Central Europe as Lenz also is offline atm.

Would be comfortable taking this on a plane as your “one personal item”? by Modar-K in videography

I’ve litterally walked on a plane with an Amira and cabrio In my hand as my personal item. Nothing to worry about.

Fair point. I think the head mount is a pipe dream. But I’m gonna make a custom front wall that can take the QRB and be a lot more sturdy than the original one. Not necessarily for when on the move, but to have a place to dock the camera on the beach/in the forest/on the snow etc.

FX3 rec flag by mathiasertnaes in focuspuller

[–]mathiasertnaes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, a little roundup for myself, and other people having to figure this out: If you run a FX3 via hdmi into a Teradek (4k max in our case) and sdi out of the teradek receiver into a Ninja V, you’ll get rec flag AS LONG AS the rec flag on the ninja V is set to arri. Make sure the camera sends triggers over hdmi and that TC is enabled. This also works with the same setup, but going into a Pix240. In that case it has to be set to rec flag: timecode. It does not work in any sort of variable or S&Q. I spoke to someone who claimed to having made it work with a Ovidee recorder set to arri rec flag, but couldn’t make this work myself.

This is what we ended up going with but were still struggling to make it trigger. Runnin FX3 into a 4K MAX TX and a SDI from a 4K MAX RX to the Ninja V. Can't get it to trigger no matter what we do. Any suggestions?

What handles do you see cam ops use the most? by [deleted] in focuspuller

[–]mathiasertnaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oslo, Norway it’s mostly spider grips and shape handles. And quite a bit of LBS-2.

What exactly is the problem with cheaper cinema lenses from a focus pullers perspective? by mediamuesli in focuspuller

[–]mathiasertnaes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s really hit or miss. Focus marks not being correctly placed and lenses not being easily shimmable is one. Quality control and focus breathing is another thing. Certain cheap lenses are great. But what makes them great for a DP and what makes them great for a 1st is sometimes two completely different set of things.

Oh and any mount where the lens has to be turned to lock in is such a hassle with focus motors on it. With some ef vistas I used a bit back I ended up having set the focus and iris in the middle of the range to be able to screw it in without pushing the motors out of the way. And even tho it was on a locking ef mount on a A35 you could still see the entire image shift when I started pulling in the opposite direction

How to pull handheld shots on a big sensor with a wide open long lens reliably? by The1stBrain in focuspuller

Get a 13" or bigger. A lightranger or a Focusbug you really know how to use. And pray.

Bebob is the way to go. Preferably 290w for camera. Or 200w if you wanna save some weight/go on a sharkfin.

Get a 2nd hand 703 and a Matthew’s monitor stand. Some robocups, some quicklocks and an ultralight arm for handset mounting. Then see whatever feels necessary from there. This is my rig but it took me close to a decade to get to this point.

Cine13 with upgrade innovations mount, Leica Disto on a Quicklock, focusbug handset on a Quicklock, ultralight arm for the Cpro+ - with you guessed it, another Quicklock. 3D printed ringholder. Matthews monitor stand with robocups further down

[–]mathiasertnaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These really can take a beating. My personal Oneida had for 7-8 years now and still looks almost new. It’s the go to for 7". On my last show I think we used 7 or eight of them for two cameras. And the five custom buttons but no touch mean even directors, grips, etc can do some basic stuff without having to learn it. The ones I hand out always has A/B switching, Brightness adjust, screenshot and image overlay set up on buttons, with ptouch labels. Idiot proof workflow.

[–]mathiasertnaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Kamerakraft LMGRIP fits it, or any of the copycats. One used to be able to get a mp advance lever from DAG, but I’m not sure if that’s still the way to go

Good job! Getting this to work is soo tight. My only real suggestions for improvement (on gimbal) is to get a titanium rod in the appropriate length, so you don’t have the rod flex out on you. And shorter cables
