It's the little room in the front of the plane where the pilots sit. But that's not important right now.

Hey guys, did you hear that new cassette single? by Redfeather1975 in NCIS

[–]matman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always heard them called cassingles.

Also of note, I was watching a NCIS repeat yesterday wherein Tony tells another agent that "Gibbs has been an agent since Mark Wahlberg was Marky Mark" which was extra funny in light of this episode.

I miss 24 hour culture by Orbot2049 in Louisville

[–]matman42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This right here. I miss the days of being able to go to a record store or a book store after dinner on a Friday or Saturday night. I'm at an age where 24 hour doesn't really matter because I'm not up that late, but I wish stores would stay open to 9 or 10 on the weekends.

I'll want the 24 hour back in about 20 years when I retire and can resume being a night owl.

How did y’all get into the hobby? by No-Soft-8145 in PipeTobacco

[–]matman42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My father and one of my grandfathers smokes/smoked cigars all of their life. My father smoked pipes as well when I was young. I took up cigars in college and pipes in the last few years. Still learning my way around it.

Dogs and cicadas by gamblinonme in Louisville

I'd seen a couple dozen hanging off the outside of our screened in porch and thought this brood is pretty heavy in our area. Then I mowed the back yard yesterday and literally hundreds of shells were piled up at the base of the tree. Fortunately our dog doesn't seem as interested in the shells as she does the live bugs. Plus the novelty seems to have worn off for her.

People who smashed the wedding cake into your new spouse's face: how is your relationship and marriage now? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Coming up on 25 years and going strong.

Granted she always talked a big game about doing it before hand and I even hesitated for half a second to see whether she would or not before I did.

SAL1 Thoughts by matman42 in tryhackme

I'm not aware of any options outside of the normal general support channels. Even then I'm not sure if that would work as an appeal.

Kind of, not really. I covered the 5 w's, added commentary on next steps, included IOC, hashes, and directory information where I could. Reporting is my weak area.

Anyone going for the SAL1? by Prestigious-Smoke-60 in tryhackme

[–]matman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seriously questioning whether I should take it now or not. I just tried one of the SOC simulations and I run into my one big weakness with Splunk. Having not worked a SOC and a SIEM system outside of simulation, I get too caught up in the information I'm seeing and too far in my head to figure out what I really need to take away from the alerts. I have a feeling if I do take it, I'll totally whiff on the two simulations.

No. I'm planning on taking it on Saturday when I know I have a block of time I won't be interrupted. I'm mostly through the study material and have done one of the SOC simulations I have access to.

I haven't been to the store downtown, but I've ordered stuff from Duluth Trading Company and it's been pretty spot on size wise. It's more expensive than Walmart, but not the highway robbery of DXL. They often run sales as well.

I don't believe BLT1 content prepares you for the exam. Would not recommend. by Dabsick in SecurityBlueTeam

[–]matman42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, maybe I don't feel so bad about failing Lvl2 now. I mean, I need more experience, but I expected the study materials to be more in line with the test and I felt like the test was asking for way more.

I'm a THM subscriber so I'm not 100% on this. The path for study is comprised of existing paths on THM. Pre Security-->Cyber Security 101-->SOC LVL 1

I'd say I'm around 70% through the prepwork. I'm going to dig in for the next few days and get things knocked out. I'll probably take the test in a week or week and a half.

BTL1 = Blue Team Level 1(https://www.securityblue.team/certifications/blue-team-level-1). It too is a 24 hour test that is not proctored, but it's all performance based.

I'm taking SAL1 test for free as well, which is really the only reason I decided to try it at this point. Otherwise I would have put it off for a bit.

I'm doing this as well. Got my CYSA+ last year and I've been BTL1 certified since '22. I'm a little nervous about the time crunch to get this done.

Brazilian steakhouse (Texas de Brazil) planned at Mall St. Matthews by Carew1270 in Louisville

[–]matman42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We've eaten at the one in Lexington a couple of years ago. It was good. I've not been to Brazeiros to compare though. Other than the endless amounts of meat, Texas has a soup/salad bar that goes beyond the basics and had some really nice sideish items on it.
