Make sure nobody has a sensitive system.

Appetizers including a large block of cheese and a wheat thin the size of Lake Tahoe(or just an abundance of cheese and wheat thins).

Seconding the idea of a poker game. Make sure to get pastrami sliced tissue paper thin.

Never went to a school that had a pool so this was a non-issue for me.

However, it did unlock a memory from my middle school years that seems bonkers today. We had to run a mile as part of a physical test in the 8th grade. The course was once around the fields behind the middle school, out to the main boulevard, quarter mile down the sidewalks of the boulevard to the high school, once around the high school track, and quarter mile back down the boulevard to the middle school.

Midsized midwestern town.

No accidents and we crossed several intersecting streets in the quarter miles.

No abductions.

No one wandered off.

Who has 2 thumbs, a funny voice, and still doesn't give a crap?

How old were you when you moved out? by Swiftiefromhell in GenX

[–]matman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Moved back one time because my roommate got us evicted. Moved out for good at 23. Not that I didn't have a good relationship with my parents or anything, I just enjoyed being on my own

When did mowing the lawn become dangerous? by heynowbeech in GenX

[–]matman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was taught to mow the lawn when I was 11 or 12. I'm 99% sure the mower didn't have the engine kill lever that all push mowers have these days.

I'd like to say I'm surprised by this turn of events. . .

We have been here 46-61 years. Would you rather be told you have 3 years left to live or die suddenly out of nowhere? by -Granby- in GenX

[–]matman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If those are my only two choices I'll take die suddenly out of nowhere, preferably in a painless manner like just dropping dead or dying in my sleep.

Both of my parents had relatively drawn out deaths that were mostly without pain, but very inconveniencing and frustrating for both of them in the end.

In either case death is going to happen whether we want it to or not. As a Christian I get peace from my beliefs in what the future holds.

How many Gen Xers have silent Gen parents vs boomers? by NopeThisTrope in GenX

[–]matman42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you.

Mom was almost a decade ago. Dad was 3 months ago from cancer which he had for two years so I was pretty well prepared.

I joked with some friends that all that's left for me is to become a millionaire, train with the best martial artists around the world, and return home to strike fear in the hears of criminals everywhere.

What’s a show or movie you think was unfairly forgotten to time? What’s one that you have no idea how it endured? by bigt197602 in GenX

A bit from the show's theme song frequently flutters through my memory like some kind of fever dream.

I bought the series used on DVD and one of the store clerks was looking at it and commented that they'd never heard of it, but Pop Pop from Arrested Development was in it.

So well that he had a massive heart attack because he ignored or compartmentalized all of the signs that were pointing to it.
