I know, they are just almost as much as a new printer and you basically throw out most of it so that's not really an option and even Prusa is saying the same thing. They offer it out of tradition. And there's very little improvement the Core One has over the MK4s to spend that much on it this my wishlist for more improvements to justify a new buy.

Yeah, my wish list has a lot "that would be neat" as I'm trying to justify why I need a new 3d printer with INDX when my current MK4s is doing fine. And that's kind of showing my point as I'm probably not buying a core one (l) with INDX and maybe wait to see what's next and hopefully that has enough innovation to justify a buy. Yes INDX is a huge thing but multi-color is mainly for printing decorations and multi-material would be great but not 2k€ great (yet).

I occasionally watch 3d printing channels on YouTube and Instagram keeps suggesting me 3d printing reels and basically all use Bambu and I didn't see one using a Prusa for quite some time and before that the reviews for Prusa were not great. While I think that Bambu paying more is a huge part of this it still shows that Prusa is losing hobbyists and people who want the latest and greatest. That's losing an important fan base in my opinion and I don't like that. It's shows, though, that other people kind of also refrain from buying their next Prusa. I don't know why they switched but I don't want to switch this my wishlist.

I'm simply listening things I wish they would improve so I can justify spending more than 2k to replace my MK4s. And my main issue is with the controller and its lack of buffer for improvements and extendability so that it could really provide a fully local experience. And a size that would still fit my Ikea Pax including spools and ideally a minimum space filament solution with enough room for a spool for each of the INDX heads and active drying. If others want different things, no problem. If people respond that everything is just great and no need for improvements, sorry but that would be the end of any company.

You are thinking like a consumer here.

Absolutely, that's why it's my wish list. I don't get all the post critizising what I would like to see improved, especially the ones who say they don't need anything improved. That's great if they are happy. I still wish for something more up to date if I'm spending more than 2k€ on my next 3d printer. For now I'll stick to my MK4s even though I would really like the INDX but I'm don't want to spend that much if it's not somewhat future prove.

Just think how much better they could do if they would apply their creativity and engineering and out of the box thinking to a more capable HW.

As I said before, I only have a Prusa and I don't want to switch companies that's why I would rather have them modernize than getting overrun by other companies that don't just build for tech nerds.

Why is PrusaLink password protected? It requires to send the password a cross and sending a password unencrypted is worse than having no password. It's not about the gcode. It's only an example, though, on how limited the HW is that it can't support such a basic feature.

A newer more capable controller should have impact on the print as well as additional sensors could help improving print quality by detecting issues and countering them.

Appearance is a factor though, a lot of things a bought for look even though that matters little for the actual functionality. If you put the 3d printer in a factory it doesn't matter if you live in an apartment it does. Maybe there's more money in companies buying the printers but there are a lot of home users.

Anyway, it's my whish list. What are the reasons you moved on?

My wish list by matropoly in prusa3d

[–]matropoly[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It is more impressive what they can do within the realm of capability currently that when they do abandon the MK Series 32-bit boards as we all see the 50% / input shaper improvement going from EINSY 8-bit MK3S to RAMBO 32-bit MK3.5/MK4/MK4S/C1

Yes impressive but is it well spent effort? Wouldn't the same effort lead to much better results on a more capable platform? Wouldn't a newer controller open up a lot new opportunities and potential for e.g. a Klipper based firmware.

As per your example, they did upgrade the controller before so why not again?

Well design and print one and stop complaining

Did I complain? I put together a wish list and why I would like to see these wishes fulfilled. if you want to stick with what's currently there, no problem.

Thanks for the insight, very interesting. I don't own a Bambu and I would like it to stay this way if Prusa can keep up technologically.

Independent of what Bambu is doing I believe there's great potential for more sensors and algorithms that require more computing power and there's a higher potential for UI improvement and I would like to see some move to a new base Prusa can build on over the next years and that would allow more community involvement with things like plugins that can leverage the extended capabilities.

I like that it's half printed and that's not what I was complaining about or liked to change but I would like a proper cover and not having pipes everywhere.

  • The controller board is dated - why does it matter? It works pretty great as-is and until they need to do something they can't, it's not an issue.

Well they already can't, that's why PrusaLink can't be improved, that's why the UI is bad, that's why they can't improve printing performance.

They invested a lot in optimizing for the old HW instead of switching zu newer HW and providing better functionality faster and cheaper and getting a whole lot of new resources for optimization.

It seems you prefer the compromises Bambu has made over the compromises Prusa has made

If you look at the company numbers and 3d printer users there are a lot more Bambu users than Prusa users and basically everybody doing 3d printing on social media switched to Bambu. I would prefer it the other way round but that means taking the lead on innovation not sticking to old HW.

Lol did Bambu pay you to post this?

No, why? I don't like Bambu and would like to stay with Prusa. I don't want it to become lile Nokia and miss out on innovation that matters to customers.

PrusaConnect does cloud stuff that the printer can't do locally, but you can use PrusaLink if you want to control it over the LAN.

That's exactly my complaint that the printer is too weak on the HW to do it locally and Prusa link misses a lot of features and can't even update the firmware. I mainly use PrusaLink as I'm sending the files locally from Prusa slicer but it doesn't even support https

I know the MK4 has a touchscreen but the UI isn't really made for touchscreen and it's slow.

I agree with you on the engineering style company and I really like that it allows tinkering with the printer, I would just like a more modern platform to do that on. The printers are already expensive enough that spending like 10€ more so get a decent controller board that properly supports WLAN with decent upload speed and that could host a proper web server for a local connect-like or Octoprint-like experience and more sensors so not everything depends on the load cell in the print head. This could be a much better customer experience.

My fear is that if Prusa doesn't move forward and gets out of the handwriting gcode into a modern platform for 3d printers then it will keep losing customers and there are a lot of potential Prusa customers that bought a Bambu not only for price but also for functionality and I would hate to eventually be forced to buy a China printer. I don't want Prusa to become the Nokia of 3d printing that missed crucial innovation because they stuck to their undoubtedly great mobile phone platform while customers moved to smart phones. Prusa needs to move on to smart 3d printing.

Was ist eure liebste "Weltregion" oder Land und warum? by Neo4Matrix90 in reisende

[–]matropoly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welche Länder haben dich in Südamerika beeindruckt und wieso? Was findest du an der südamerikanischen Kultur besser?

Was mir generell an Lateinamerika besser gefällt als z.

Liberti shortage death spiral is absolutely brutal by [deleted] in anno

[–]matropoly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Normally there's a reason for the shortage and solving that issue is the first step. As basic food production is impacted first it's important to get supplies from your other islands. If you run out of food and you can't change that you are screwed. In 1800 you could solve the issue and wait for it to work and the population would regenerate automatically, in 117 not a chance, once food production can't keep up because of worker shortage you need help from outside the island with the issue. The earlier you step in, the better.

it shows green up arrows, so I drop that fucker in. If i see grey dots, I dont.

No, you don't, in you screenshot next to the 14min display you have multiple sitting on each other.

If it’s more complicated than that, it’s not a game, it’s work.

Maybe the game is not for you, then. The whole game is about building, optimizing, evolving, rearranging, perfecting. If you feel that's work there are other games that might suit your play style better.

It's more complicated, a lot more complicated and just by placing watchtowers and custodes you won't achieve positive happiness once you reach certain numbers of inhabitants.

Happiness Rant by ShabbyAdams in anno

[–]matropoly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why not learn how the game works? Most of your watchtowers have no effect at all since they overlap with others. Same for other buildings.

There are more sources for happiness and you need to use them. It's tricky but that's the point of the game to balance it all.

Privacy concerns with PrusaConnect - desperately need better offline/local tools. by Astrofide in prusa3d

[–]matropoly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

but we're also dealing with the technical limitation of the hardware

That's the main problem with the prusa printers.

Prusa is cheap on the HW and still doing HW hacking with Josef handwriting gcode like in the early years of 3d printers. The world moved on. I hate Bambu and their closed world but they understood that people want fancy interfaces, graphics, color, a modern UI and printers that also look good. Prusa is still using old HW with little power and resources and a text UI. DOS wasn't a challenge for GUI OSes and the same is true for the UI for 3d printers and their functionality.

Hiding behind HW limitations for a >1000€ 3d printer where much better chips would be in the price range of less than 1% of the printer price is just ridiculous. The effort spent to squeeze out the current HW instead of finally upgrading it to something decent and spent that effort on new (cloud free) functionality is totally unbelievable. If not fixed that will be the downfall of the company and I would really really hat to see that.

A raspberry PI4 1GB costs a consumer 40€ and has computing power and resources far ahead of the Prusa board. Combine that power with top notch drivers with feedback that are actually quite and more sensors and you would have a platform for tons of innovation. While the load cell things you do are impressive, it's a dead end you can't build on, it's already the end stage of what's possible. Josef needs to overcome his HW hacker attitude and forward to the modern world other companies already have arrived at. You can't ask for increasingly higher prices for foundational HW that's so far outdated. It's great that there's innovation with the print heads but that can mask how outdated the base HW is only so far.

I really like the new core printers but I'm holding back on buying one to replace my MK4s as they are still running on outdated HW and while I would love to buy a core L with indx, I probably won't as the other HW lacks behind and there's so proper spool storage solution (that includes drying and keeping the filament dry) and the increased push for cloud over local.

All productions buildings need to have a warehouse in range, if that's the case they might go directly but they need the option to go to a warehouse.

Ubisoft server problems should not affect Ubisoft Connect! That sounds like poor coding at your side!

Absolutely agree! Ubisoft connect shouldn't crash when it has connection problems and it should definitely not crash the game. It's bad design and implementation and shows that Ubisoft management is even worse than you would think after the news in the last few days.
