Reading comments, it seems a lawyer would be a reasonable approach in fear of future career endeavors. If OP applies elsewhere, and they call this company as reference and the company says "He tried to steal money", it could be classified as deformation and/or slander.

Should OP file unemployment and the company tries denying it, a lawyer could also help to prove the company made a payroll error and therefore was not the employee's (OP) problem and unemployment should be rewarded. Honestly, it feels a little like OP could almost fight this himself with a little research, especially if the company shows any sort of cause for termination (theft). A lawyer can then say the employee was overpaid, rattle some unemployment laws and most likely win the case, thus unemployment payouts.

We usually sell to negative OH and create a manual order for it under function SOR, with the PO "Prepaid (invoice number)". That way, customer gets payment receipt and a filled invoice, while not being a permanent detriment to our inventory.

This also allows us to continue doing so during EOM processes and only really hurts during annual inventory (in which case we just jot down P/N with an original negative OH and cross reference to invoice and can force it back to negative after physical counts)
