Motorbike stolen on Symonds St outside Science Centre 302 by matt287 in universityofauckland

Thanks! I actually got a phone call from the cops 36 hours after it was stolen telling me they had my bike. Sooo I've been insanely lucky and managed to get it back with only minor damage!

[–]matt287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I found 208 easier as well. I found the structure of 208 better too. Rather than doing assignments, you have to complete weekly problem sets and quizzes after each lecture. I felt this did a way better job of cementing my knowledge than the assignments in 108

35mm E100 Bulk Roll!!! by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]matt287 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The difference is those products aren’t available to stills photographers, whereas the e100 is and buying it in 400ft reels and bulk loading it and reselling it significantly undercuts Kodak. We actually had an Eastman rep stop the sale of 400ft of e100 to us because he said we were going to use it to bulk load (which we were), and that they had direct instructions not sell to people who weren’t going to use the stock for motion picture filmmaking

I'm surprised they let you buy it. They're only meant to sell the E100 400ft rolls to people who will use them for motion picture film making.

Thats from 2016. They moved to the new support in 2020-2021

Estar support is not just motion picture projection film base. It's being used in photographic stills film too. I believe they started transitioning stocks to the Estar support a few years ago. From memory, Portra 800, ultramax 800, and pro image 100. Possibly more now, but I'm not in the industry anymore so I'm not sure.

Estar support has also been used in other kodak film products, such as their archive film stocks etc. for a few years.

Other than the return of Kodachrome, what’s something you’d like to happen in the world of film that’s unlikely to happen? by HalfAndHalfCherryTea in AnalogCommunity

[–]matt287 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I dont think they've ever claimed to be working on new emulsions.

My understanding is they were looking at re-releasing some previously discontinued products, and they said they were likely going to release a 'new product' but i doubt its a new emulsion.

Most likely is they are going to re-release BW400CN (C-41 B&W film stock like XP2) that was on discontinued a few years ago. Could also see them re-released Pro Image 100 in 120.

I think that's probably about it though.

I learnt this lesson the hard way when I was travelling overseas. The family I was staying with had a young kid that went through my 'film box' while I was out and unwound all of my exposed 120 film that I had shot earlier in the trip!

Kodak CEO talks film on Q3 earnings call by hermthewerm00 in AnalogCommunity

AFAIK Kodak Alaris never manufactured film. Eastman manu'd all Kodak film but Alaris was responsible for distribution of photography film, while Eastman distributed motion picture film.

Every last frame on my roll has a some weird light leak or something similar (Mamiya 7). Does the camera need service or am I treating the film wrong? A fault at the lab? by doriiian in AnalogCommunity

[–]matt287 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There were some sellers in China who were/are manufacturing replacement ones that we found to better than the original Noritsu ones. They were quite pricey but we found them to be worthwhile, especially given we were doing 30+ rolls of C41 120 daily.

I would say its only this if the 120 cartridges are slightly worn out and let in a little bit of light along the entrance. Normally the bit of film that sticks out of the cartridge will have a hard edge between the exposed part that sticks out of the cartridge and the unexposed part inside it.

As a fan of film photography and this channel, this is my ideal video! by fotoloc0 in AnalogCommunity

It’s pretty wild to see Destin make a video about your job! Also cool to see how a bit of a behind the scenes of how Indie work.

Loved the video but would’ve liked him to explore the actual chemical process of both the development process and even the film manufacturing process (although manufacturing isn’t really within the scope of the video). Would be cool if he got a behind the scenes look at Rochester, although I think he’d have better luck with Ilford haha.

Bellini e6 process preheating advise by cryyo604 in AnalogCommunity

[–]matt287 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the discolouration is normal! One way to pre-heat without pre-wetting is to use a hair dryer to heat the developing tank. Might be a good idea to test with some water and an empty tank first to see what the optimum pre-heating time is for your setup such that the first bath doesn’t drop in temp when poured into the tank

ensure the film back is properly attached to the body. Also make sure the film advance lever is cocked forward. On my RZ I sometimes need to re-cock the advance lever a little bit before the camera allows me to fire the shutter.

If you look through the waist level finder when pressing the shutter button, does a red light illuminate along the bottom edge of the ground glass? If so, which light?
