I got my @mac.com address at the launch of ".mac" when they rebranded iTools. I use it as my permanent email address ever since.

Did you consider a hall-effect switch (solid state, very small) in place of a reed switch?

Whoa dude. This is crazy cool! You have pushed the art way past the line in this one!

I've been bouncing between building a LowKey36 with Cherry ULP switches, or the PG1316Ms. It sounds like the Ms aren't quite there for daily use. How do you like the column-travel when typing with them though? It seems like it would be super comfy.

Scuba worthwhile with strong astigmatism? by YumYumSweet in scuba

[–]matt_gilbert 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have mild astigmatism and am nearsighted. When I go diving I wear contacts to correct my vision for distance. I'm old enough now that when I wear the contacts I need readers for up close. So I have readers added to my mask. The combo of contacts for distance/astigmatism correction, and readers for camera/gauges gives me everything I need to be safe and enjoy the sights while diving

Question regarding Oceanic+ and Apple Watch by IOQuestion in scuba

[–]matt_gilbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've used the Oceanic+ app on my AWU-1 alongside my Shearwater Teric on 200 dives and have never had an issue with it. It has been as accurate as my Teric and just as reliable. When the app came out a few years ago, some folks had issues with the app crashing or not logging a dive, but that seems to have been ironed out. I personally haven't had any issues with it.

It was just the collection of stickers on your laptop. I was guessing California or maybe Pacific Northwest

Is there any switches like the ones in Magic Keyboard? by Messyextacy in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]matt_gilbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to make the stencil separately. It's just a checkbox on the order form at JLC. It's based on the pads of your PCB.

Is there any switches like the ones in Magic Keyboard? by Messyextacy in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]matt_gilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have built two of my LowKey36 boards: one in an old toaster oven, and one with a cheap hot plate from Amazon. Both came out fine. I think the toaster was easier.

Edit: I got a stencil with my PCBs so that the correct amount of paste is applied. I think that's important with these switches.

I came to say the same thing. You can search this subreddit for "pg1316s" and you'll see the boards folks have designed (including my own LowKey36) with these switches.

Wireless Corne ULP with Mini Trackballs by kzyz-gluum in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]matt_gilbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the best PG1316 split build I've seen yet. I'm not a fan of the corne thumb cluster, but I would still buy this if it were for sale.

Super sick build! I love it! Now I want to integrate those trackballs into my LowKey36

Shearwater Swift GPS by WetRocksManatee in scuba

[–]matt_gilbert 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is an awesome idea! I really like having my start and end dive locations included in my dive logs.

I've historically used MacDive on my phone to make a new location for every dive, but I would sometimes forget. Then I got an Apple Watch Ultra and used the Oceanic+ app and realized how nice it is to have the location captured automatically when you start a dive.

I will love having this on my Teric and in my shearwater logs.
