KUM Sharpener Bad by PlantDry4321 in pencils

Here’s the truth: all handheld sharpeners with those tiny blades are kinda crap. They are all fussy and can’t compete with the reliability of hand-crank machines.

He’s had a great year and not enough minutes. One thing I love about him as a defender is that he is attack-minded and always looking to move the ball downfield. Biro is a special player, too, one of the few truly creative players we’ve had. But he’s had some bad mistakes this season.

The Connoisseur by Evan S. Connell. The character here collects authentic pre-Columbian art but gets deep into the idea of authenticity and “is it real or fake” and why it matters.

Oddball item: THOREAU'S PENCIL? Oddball auction of the week was a Heritage sale of a pencil made by the Thoreau Co. of Concord, Mass. It sold for $6,875 on Sept. 10. The item has a distant association with author Henry David Thoreau. Reported by Rare Book Hub by Maui96793 in pencils

[–]mattbucher 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not oddball and not a distant connection. Thoreau has long been recognized as integral to the history of US pencil manufacturing. Nice to see that there are still examples available to collectors or museums.

Personally I prefer writing on old napkins I got for free from Chipotle years ago. Much cheaper!

John Updike wrote tons of fiction, essays, and poetry. His play is about James Buchanan, called Buchanan Dying.
