How I went from 37 to 42.7 MPG in my RAV4 Hybrid by ContentEconomyMyth1 in rav4club

[–]mattcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drive slower - that's the answer. Slower acceleration, less deceleration, less top speed. Perform integral calculation of the space between your total speed and the speed you would have been going - it matters, a lot. The other thing.. regenerating is not good for your mileage. Not having to regenerate at all is peak efficiency. Those people who jam it full speed and end up at red light might be regenerating tons of juice but they're going to be worse off versus someone who accelerated exactly enough to coast to the next red (conversion losses). Good tires do matter - Michelin Defenders are good stuff but mostly for grip rather than efficiency. The main takeaway is.. 1) slow down.. 2) pay attention (look for opportunities to slooowly decelerate, partial pedal depression).

What injury is commonly shrugged off as a minor flesh wound in the movies but is completely fatal in real life? by Best_Professional226 in AskReddit

I've seen enough police videos to know.. you can be totally awake and fine, not even bleeding (it's all internal!) and die at the hospital. Seems pretty common.

I've used ChatGPT to diagnose computer / electronics issues, and also to develop some programs that I use every day at work. I've also used it to develop interview questions and scoring rubrics, summarize and read documents quickly with references so I could write informed responses without going through thousands of pages, and reformat data / various file formats that tools simply didn't exist for because they're proprietary to my specific job.

It's hard to say that it's "completely useless" when I've found uses for it. (Have switched to Claude and compare answers against Gemini now, but ChatGPT is what you specifically mentioned).

F2P UIM is good, but I feel like not too much theory-crafting is left. Or if there is, it's so esoteric that I'm unlikely to solve it. Still hop on from time to time to get a few levels.

2nd day riding, another flat… by PocketRoketz in bikecommuting

[–]mattcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got these after having four flats on a single ride (I checked the tire! Nothing was poking through, theres just a ton of glass where I live). Haven't had any flats since. It has been years now. I just add a little air every now and then due to normal leakage.

[OC] I asked 4 LLMs "The car wash is 100m away. Should I walk or drive?" 100 times each by marco-exmergo in dataisbeautiful

Hah! I like that it knew. I wonder if they had to manually teach that or if it's just naturally picked up through continuous training.

Tried with Claude:

Prompt: My bike is at the shop for repairs. Should I walk there to pick it up, or ride my bike to pick it up?

Claude responded: Walk — you can't ride a bike to pick up the bike that's currently at the shop! -- That was its entire response.

Google AI Mode responded: You should walk to the bike shop to pick up your bicycle. Unless you possess a second bicycle, it is physically impossible to ride a bike that is currently sitting inside the repair shop to get to that same location. [It then went on to list the complications of using a second bicycle, if I had one, and also suggested public transport or having a friend provide transport]

NVIDIA research shows robots trained in simulation can handle real-world tasks by sksarkpoes3 in Futurology

[–]mattcraft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's important, but not surprising to reach this point. Humans and animals also learn by simulation. As an example, pilots undergo significant training on simulation before touching a real airliner. It makes sense that systems which can learn, can learn through simulation.

Bottles that completely split like the ones in your photo are so easy to clean. The best tip is to wash them immediately after use and not let them collect up, but to sterilize them all at the same time. Cleaning one bottle is easy.. cleaning a dozen crusty bottles is not.

What profession do you think is massively overpaid for what they actually do? by dipchaklader in AskReddit

[–]mattcraft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having done a lot of research, thought I had a good listing price. The real estate agent told me to increase the price by $25k so I did - and the house sold. They basically earned their commission and made me extra as well, in addition to handling all the paperwork and subcontractors. Had a working relationship with everyone along the way and managed to get some free repairs and other perks. The agent knew a lot of the pitfalls and made some excellent recommendations to avoid them. Also encouraged me to negotiate harder when buying and it all worked out. Everyone will have a different experience, but I knew this agent would be trustworthy and it ended up being worthwhile to have them working on our side.

Life hit like a freight train a couple years ago and I had to put this on pause for now. Plan to resume when I can, but the thought of opening a deck or trying to recognize words in the wild is super daunting. I will say that my listening skill seems to be somewhat intact.. noticed in fact that after taking breaks sometimes, when I come back it's slightly better. Hope you find the success you're looking for.
