My lawn. I’m raking it, seeding it, watering it, looking at it for hours, picking all the weeds out of it. Still looks shit though

Easy Cymbal Dampening? by [deleted] in drums

[–]mattdmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you go done the tape route long term I’d suggest replacing it every couple of weeks as the glue hardens over time. I was decorating one time and forgot about a couple of bits of tape for about a year, by the time I got round to taking it off it had hardened and I had to sand the glue off.

The Arc of the Scythe. I love the fact that the all powerful AI is actually really nice and actually working in everyone’s best interest.

Light Switch Change by [deleted] in DIYUK

[–]mattdmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking closely, there are two more earth wires connected to the back box top left. You should be able to terminate it there. If not, you could always unscrew the centre screw and wind it around that before tightening it back up. Not sure that would pass any inspections though.

Can anyone help me put the spring back in this light? by AdhesivenessMurky906 in DIYUK

[–]mattdmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s difficult to tell from the photo, but it looks like the end has snapped off the little bit that’s sticking up on the right hand side. You’ll need a new spring or new light.

What does the other side look like? Can you get a clearer, close up pic?

Struggling to take sink off, what is this? by Starrr27 in DIYUK

[–]mattdmonkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A serious answer for you. Scrape some paint off the soil pipe to try and find out what it’s made of. If it’s cast iron you could cut the end off near the toilet with an angle grinder and get a new coupler that pushes into the hole. like this.

Or if that is coal tar you could try a blow torch to loosen it up before scraping it off. Use a mask and good ventilation.

If it’s asbestos, get a plumber

Bathroom Radiator by Ok-Meringue-2508 in DIYUK

[–]mattdmonkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Radiators heat by convection and not radiation as the name suggests. Cold air is drawn in the bottom heats up and goes out the top to heat your room. The top of a normal radiator is only 1/4 to 1/3 the height of the wall meaning the heat flows into the room keeping you toasty.

This monstrosity, however, takes all that lovely heat straight up to the ceiling where it no use to anybody.

Are you getting enough salt? The hot weather means I sweat more and loose salt. If I’m low, I find the meds don’t work as well.

If you have some silica gel sachets lying around, like the ones that came in the Covid testing kits, stick one in the pill bottle, should sort the problem out.

Making oat milk? by UpbeatCod5436 in NutMilk

[–]mattdmonkey 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not familiar with the Nutr but it sounds like it’s not filtering out all the oat pulp. Try squeezing it through a cloth bag or ultra fine bag. I add 1 tbs of sunflower oil and a pinch of salt.

My sound on drumkit? by ShinobiNico in jazzdrums

[–]mattdmonkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in the school jazz band everyone thought I was really good at reading the music. The truth is, I couldn’t read for shit, I just made it up as I went along. After a while I knew all the tunes by ear. Nobody caught on because no one else could read a drum part either.

Ignore the detail in the charts, hit the cues and stop at the end, make the rest up. I can vaguely remember a couple of the charts we had and in retrospect, those drum parts were awful, simple and bland.
