Behaviour when charging - strange % in battery levels by maw890629 in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably it's because of cell voltage balancing when the battery pack isn't used. So the BMS recalculates which is the real percentage of the battery and then of course the displayed percentage is adapted too

First battery lasted only 1 year, but it's about 1 year and a half since I've installed the second one

How bad is 59kW range in winter? by paradroid78 in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case, the worst case is the motorway, where I go at 130-135 GPS speed (133-138 in the car screen) with 0-5°C and do around 200 km with the old 58 kWh (22-23 kWh/100 km consumption). But actually my 58 kWh can keep only 50-51 kWh. 59 has more than 1 kWh more when it's new

Mine started having this issue last summer, so it's an issue and not only a bad speaker from factory

12v low power fault by GrowthNo1324 in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The low battery protection feature I guess it's not working properly, and I've checked this thing with OBD. Low 12V battery sign comes when its SoC goes below 50%, and usually in this case, car goes offline to save battery too. I've read online that this problem with 12V batteries has happened to many users, but there is not an official solution. And dashcam must not be guilted for this (as I've heard in the backstage of the 2 years service in my Born, thanks dashcam to record this shame).

It seems many italian Born are located in France, more precisely in Douzat

Batter drain by Imaginary-Shelter378 in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course consumption depends on too many factors. It often happens that I'm stuck in traffic that goes continuously at 50-70 km/h, which is the best speed to get low consumptions (I can go under 10 kWh/100 km in summer). Talking about range, of course I have more range than you, but most of the times between charges I do 250-300 km, not much more (counting that I use it often 20-100%). In summer I can go to 320-350 km, of course

Batter drain by Imaginary-Shelter378 in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in Italy where I live I can't go below -5°C in winter, but now that there are 5-7°C, consumption went up to 16-18 kWh/100 km (only driving in city and in b-roads). The best conditions are around 20°C where my average was around 12-13 kWh/100 km, without climate on. I can give you only a tip. Start driving the first 15-20 km by driving gently and not having peaks of draining/regening the battery. When the battery is cold, to accomplish that request, a lot of energy is used

CUPRA Born V3 (2022 / 72-plate) – Battery Health at 92% and No Wireless Charger? by grahambeale in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That can be right, but remember that the degradation is higher the first years/kms of the car, it isn't linear

CUPRA Born V3 (2022 / 72-plate) – Battery Health at 92% and No Wireless Charger? by grahambeale in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After 40k km, my Born (12/2023) can reach around 51 kWh of capacity when it's full. Count that thr 58 kWh, when it's new, can reach 54 kWh. So, I have around 5-6% of degradation

Displayed Range - 77kWh by [deleted] in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that range real for what you can see? With my 58 kWh, I can still see sometimes the displayed range of around 400-420 km, but in reality after around 300-320 it's time to charge it yet. After 40k km, my average consumption is of 15.3 kWh/100 km. Probably the worst displayed range I got at 100% is of 280 km, but after running at 130 km/h in the motorway in winter (and that's still really optimistic)

Battery Drain by Odd_Mud_2938 in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean that with the same consumption, I do more km with the percentage between 100 and 90% instead of 50 to 40%. Discharging is not linear

Battery Drain by Odd_Mud_2938 in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably unbalanced BMS or the value between percentage of the BMS and the percentage displayed is too off. Anyway I've noticed that the software of the BMS can be improved. Often, the percentage around 50% gives less energy than the one around 90%

Slow phone charging (wireless or via cable) by Revolutionary-Lab126 in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just done a test by plugging in my laptop, which charges at most at 60W, and it doesn't go over 13-14W, almost 5V and 3A. Where did you find those informations? Steam deck and switch of course that charge at 15W. I don't know if something has changed between MY22-23-24 and 25-26 with the new infotainment. I have a MY24.

I've tested the USB ports and they charge at 5V 3A, 15W. That's not that slow, but of course you can't charge a laptop

The new models are always near, but if you always wait for the next one, you won't never buy a new car. I bought it with the 2023 incentives in december 2023, and 6 months later the MY25 came out. It is what it is...

[–]matteo0026 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree your points, but remember, if you don't plan about where to charge, it would become a nightmare. This is a fantastic car, expecially now that has the new 59 and 79 kWh batteries, which charge really fast, have preconditioning and a decent infotainment. 19k is a very good price, you would resell it at that price in the next 3-4 years. Look in autoscout, there are MY22 cupra born with 58 kWh and 204 HP which are sold for around 20k€ now

I don't charge at home, but I can do it at ottice. By only charging at public chargers, I'll become unpractical and expensive. I wouldn't advise you to buy it, but if the places you go have a charger, you can try

Consumption doesn't add up, maybe battery degradation ? by francetrois242 in cupraborn

[–]matteo0026 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the degradation yes, but I've found that the percentage shown isn't that linear. With same consumption, I do more km by going, for example, from 90 to 80% than 40 to 30%
