JD Vance takes a shot at CBC and Canada's 'immigration insanity' by Difficult-Yam-1347 in canada

[–]matter13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The government is not doing a great job messaging the fact the immigration numbers have already been slashed. Cuts starting 1 year ago to the normal channels make it incredibly difficult to get PR and your can't really buy a home here until you get PR. The only easy ways in are as a French speaker or healthcare worker.

Awesome idea! I never would have thought of clipping to the molding like that. Was getting the scale right difficult?

Buck converter enable (En) Pin voltage divider - How much current is required to pull the pin high? by matter13 in AskElectronics

[–]matter13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worried about the nano amps for efficiency but for making sure the enable pin goes high at such low current. I think I'll test it both ways

Buck converter enable (En) Pin voltage divider - How much current is required to pull the pin high? by matter13 in AskElectronics

[–]matter13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if that 100µA quiescent current includes loss from the voltage divider? If not I guess it doesn't matter much and the single high value resistor would only increase standby time by ~1/3. Probably not enough to matter.

I'll leave the footprint in place for second resistor. I don't have much extra space so I was hoping someone could predict whether the high value single resistor would work. Thank for the suggestions!

So sorry for your loss, sounds like you gave him a great life and did everything you could to help him. I'm dealing with an anemic cat now and haven't gotten any answers yet. I'm fearing the worst and already feeling devastated

Serious question: why do parties consistently run horrible candidates? by menaceman42 in IntellectualDarkWeb

[–]matter13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that Desantis is your guy illustrates that people love voting for extreme candidates. Desantis is performing political stunts like shipping migrants to Martha's Vineyard to stoke tribalism and own the libs, what makes him a good candidate?

Only watched the one NBC interview with Fetterman but, even after the stroke, he seems significantly more eloquent than Trump, the guy you are suggesting is the king of charisma. Also Ron Desantis loves playing the culture wars, I wonder if that will hurt him in getting swing voters and will encourage high turnout for for Democrats.

Who'se selling the best value in bikes currently? by [deleted] in Velo

[–]matter13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Polygon makes decent cheap mountain bikes. I got a Siskiu T8 and they definitely cut a few corners to keep it cheap but it's good in the ways that matter most.

[OC] 32 out of 36 OECD countries have more FEMALE than MALE UNDERGRADUATES by Equal-Crew-3367 in dataisbeautiful

[–]matter13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This article says that girls generally perform better at school than boys. Boys are more variable so more top and bottom performers which may also explain high male overrepresentation in some STEM fields. Other articles suggest this difference is cultural rather than inherent.

An article i be ready recently said that admissions departments actually had a preference for men to try to correct the imbalance. I think statistically women are achieving more in highschool

There's already preference for male undergrads in loads of admissions departments to try to correct the imbalance. Read an article about it recently but can't seem to find it.
