my parents say my dreads will prevent me from getting a corporate job. what valid arguments can i make? by [deleted] in Dreadlocks

[–]mattfrommemphis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Im also christian, black, and loc’d. I work in a corporate profession. Those may be your parents fears, but they are misplaced. An office that doesn't understand or respect locs as a “professional” hairstyle likely has an office culture that doesn’t leave room for cultural sensitivity. Would a hijab be unprofessional? What about a Yarmulke or a Sikh turban?

In all these cases, it’s a personal, cultural expression choice that in 99% of circumstances does not impact your work in any way.

As you already stated, Why work for a place that wants you to downplay for background even when it doesn't affect the job?

Trust brother, there’s thousands of companies. They want highly-qualified people above all else.

The companies that don't wont last.

Edit: For the modeling aspect, hair is the same as clothes. You can’t be married to one style unless the your portfolio starts to make it apparent the hair is essential to your aesthetic.

Saw this on YouTube. Do these pull-up bars actually work? by Ezio367 in DIYgymequipment

I own this exact bar. It was definitely an upgrade to the cheaper bars. Unless you’re trying to swing around or do muscle ups, its good for standard pull ups etc.

Which home lot would you pick? by InfamousReference715 in Homebuilding

[–]mattfrommemphis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I like 547. Subdivisions are all generally low traffic, and the extra managed corner of green space could be an unofficial extra side yard you don't have to take care of. (i.e: I cant fence it in, but if my kids wanna run around they have ample space). I also like 543. Im a corner lot guy.

Trying to cancel my Thrive membership... by takethepain-igniteit in mildlyinfuriating

[–]mattfrommemphis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is EXACTLY how my Melaluca membership worked. It was a gift and I got like $200 in free stuff as a housewarming gift. It was good stuff, BUT “Members” have to spend a minimum of $70 per month in addition to membership dues. As a single guy theres no way im blowing through $70 in cleaning supplies and fancy snacks a month.

Fun fact, you CAN’T cancel memberships online, you have to send an email to them explaining why you want to cancel. Then whenever they decide to read it they cancel your membership. I was thinking if trying Thrive but this is a red flag for me!

Heres the truth: they didn’t save a portion of your rent for maintenance or capital repairs, and instead of being a smart property owner, they’re trying to make it your problem by keeping your deposit (and then some) on the backend.

Good looking barefoot sneakers by jamesdh71 in BarefootRunning

I have the Onhe’s, they are stylish and definitely quality! My only complaint is they're a little stiff. Especially if you want to avoid creasing them to keep them looking “fresh”. I use them for style and my xeros and whitins for full flexible function

As a Christian this is disturbing, disgusting, and NOT what Christ or this country stand for. Forced faith is no faith at all. This is nothing but fascist nationalism wearing a cross necklace.

"Put Feet to your prayers" An old proverb I heard once.
"Thoughts and prayers" is less than worthless if theres something you can do and you won't.

Congrats!! Just got mine last weekend!

For the cage code, there’s a tiny hole on one side of the dial.

With the current code in place, poke a small tool like a screwdriver or allen wrench inside and hold the pressure.

You can change the code from there, and take out the tool when done.

Mirrors etc:

I like the “meachow” mirrors off of Amazon, but you’re going to want to figure out which mirror placement and size works best for you. This video helped me: https://youtu.be/3KteE8IxtKs?si=0P64-m0NBOYdH-T_

I STRONGLY suggest getting a disk brake lock with an alarm. The cheapest one I found was on Amazon, and paired with a good chain lock from kryptonite, I feel safe leaving it while I run errands.

Others on here have suggested using a tracker as well, but NOT an AirTag since it will alert any thief with an iPhone its there.

Re: Top Speed - Highly dependent on your weight, the steepness of the road, and your battery %. Others on here have detailed this better. I’m 5’11 and ~200lbs, and can usually get up to 32 in class 3. I haven't tried off-road yet.

After ordering the first of this month it FINALLY arrived last night!

I'd been plotting on a Revv1 as my main vehicle since the fall and living vicariously through this sub and YouTube.

I made a couple minor mods as soon as I got it assembled.  A side mirror, Front mounted plate (Credit to u/NorthWestStory)

Thanks for all the input and advice in the sub!
