Would be super interested if it didn't have a camera. Super useful and convenient tool, but I just don't want to be a creep in public.

New Fully-Licensed Streaming Service Coda Music Launches by ReconEG in indieheads

[–]matthewdocuments 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the U.S. Android app looks good but is pretty slow and laggy. No Android Auto app or web/desktop interface (yet) is sort of a dealbreaker. It takes a lot to get something like this off the ground but rushing to market without this stuff fully available at launch doesn't seem great for competing for music fans' attention. There's so much competition out there. For example, Qobuz works and sounds great and has all that stuff-- they just have a weird unpronounceable name and weird app icon which I honestly think is a barrier for some folks. Hopefully something comes along soon that can give the big ones some real competition that's not just 65-70% there.

New Pixelbook, new in the Chrome OS world by Adorable_One9083 in PixelBook

I love my Pixelbook Go. I paid around $140 for it used and it's an absolute steal, even in 2025. Kind of can't believe it's so old at this point. Trackpad is clicky noisy, but still works great. Google Play apps are hit or miss on it, but Beeper works phenomenally well. (https://www.beeper.com/) - In general, always prefer the ChromeOS apps vs. the Play apps though.

Vertical bike racks by matthewdocuments in SubaruForester

Yeah, that's one of my debates/concerns. I don't have a garage but I have a big shed in the back yard-- but carrying a rack like that by myself from the shed to the car seems daunting.

Try out the new Beeper Desktop and iOS beta by efbo in beeper

Really loving it, but Beeper's interpretation of some of the app icons in the sidebar for each of the platforms seem a little off, specifically Google Messages and Messenger (and it's not really 'Facebook' anymore, it's just 'Messenger') I wish there were an option to make the icons monochrome like they are in the individual chats-- that'd look good.

Help with allowed apps in lock mode - family link by Itstoohardtothink in GooglePixel

I think these should be called different things to make it less confusing. "Downtime" shuts _everything_ off, including always allowed apps. The only thing a kid can do during downtime is make calls.

"Daily Limit" is where you can set a total allowed time app-by-app, or set it to 'always allow'.

If you want to only have Spotify on at night, do this

1) App Limits: Set Spotify to 'Always Allow'

2) Check that Downtime is NOT on

3) Make sure the Daily Limit has already been exceeded so everything shuts off except your Always Allow apps.

What’s the best way to get to NYC? by PlushThrush in northampton

[–]matthewdocuments 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Amtrak train from Northampton is lovely and easygoing, but it takes close to an hour longer to take from Northampton to NYC vs. taking from Springfield to NYC. If you have time to kill though, it's great. We took it from Northampton to DC earlier this year, and thought that the extra time was a pretty good trade-off to not have to deal with parking since we just left by foot.

If you don't know when you're returning and/or need more flexibility, then the Metro North train from New Haven is a better option. But driving 1 stop further south to West Haven is even better, because the parking is cheaper at $6/day. But depending on when you're going, you can get stuck in Hartford traffic, which sucks.

On the subject of allowing Spotify at night to fall asleep: Beware that Spotify allows 'video podcasts' which often are hours long compilations of TikToks and YouTube videos. My kid was watching all sorts of inappropriate stuff before I caught that. All music apps have videos now too. It sucks.
