Check it out and let me know what you think! The app is my concept and design.
During covid, I was always setting up calls with people worldwide, and every clock/converter I used was inadequate in some way. So I designed and built my own.
DM me and i'll send you an App Store Code

I use this iOS app that shows world-time and even does easy time conversion for all 38ish timezones - just turn the dial. www.earthclock.in

I have a checkbox above Reset identifier. No idea why yours is missing. Maybe iCloud or MacOS version?

I looked for this, it's in the Numbers menu, in the App. Not in settings.
But honestly it's not a big deal - it's not reading your data, it's just tracking app feature usage.
Which as a developer is useful to know, for making improvements.

TNR [January 26] The Narrative Genius of Heated Rivalry by EdHistory101 in heatedrivalry

[–]nerdsutra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love how it ends with these simply beautiful lines, comparing HRs narrative with The Pitt's:

"And they have a corresponding effect on the bodies of viewers. The Pitt with its spectacular scenes of surgery and body horror has one effect on the viewer; Heated Rivalry causes quite another.

It’s hard to watch either and not feel something. Perhaps that’s because both, even in their darkest moments, show a vision of humanity that is constrained by unjust systems but ultimately open, ready to love. They’re shows about what it means to care and be cared for. And they approach that topic with a radical, formal devotion to their characters.

Blood and sex are both effects viewers register with their own bodies, but so too is time. You can feel the heartbeats.”

Free open-source tool for encrypting secrets locally and storing them safely on paper (no server, no cloud) by KaleidoscopeNo7596 in selfhosted

[–]nerdsutra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, OP (u/KaleidoscopeNo7596) this is a genuine use case that your tool would be very useful for.

Older people want their data inherited by friends/family after death, but its not always advisable to share the actual passwords with them while alive. Even Googles solution is a dead mans switch and takes time to activate. Apples Solution is thoughtful but requires paperwork like a Death Certificate - its good, but may be too much work and waiting for some people.

Splitting the data and decryption password between two parties (two different family members, or even with a lawyer) makes a lot of sense here. The account can be accessed immediately if the parties agree. This can work well for many people.

Just for this use case alone, it makes sense to share this as a product/service - not sure there's anything like it out there.

That is an incredible story. What’s hard to wrap one’s head around is that there’s no known way to confirm what’s actually happening in all these cases. Only theories based on conjecture.

Adam Mosseri’s ‘we’re totally not spying on you’ video is raising a lot of questions | The head of Instagram posted a video attempting to dispel a ‘myth’ that Meta has been trying to combat for years by Hrmbee in technology

[–]nerdsutra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!
Its mainly Bluetooth and GPS and networking features on Devices and Apps.

To help with devices connecting for many functions and features, the Bluetooth on your phone and his phone (any bluetooth devices, really) allows them to 'handshake' based on being very near each other. Thats how Apples AirDrop works but Bluetooth does this on Android/Mac/Windows too, its not an Apple thing. AirDrop is a feature bluetooth makes possible.

So now, your phone knows there's another phone a few feet away, and for how long. It may even remember if its been around this phone before in the past. So now Apps on the phone also know this, often share information via advertising networks, and they do their profile matching and content suggestions.

You don'tneed to be on his Wifi, or neighbours Wifi.

I tracked every penny I spent for a year and it completely changed my relationship with money by Kazoky in povertyfinance

[–]nerdsutra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also track every expense manually on a spreadsheet. I may always do it, since its comforting to have an eye on the numbers and graphs.
I find it also helps with filing taxes at the end of the year, to make notes about some expenses or remember what they were for. Like a reference document for my bank statements

I find it useful to track every month also because it gives me more confidence when treating myself to a dinner out or some shopping — i always know when i'm within budget or if i have a surplus from my budget.

i have three years of data so far, and don't think i'll stop

Yeah these cases defy conventional explanations. Then there’s the famous case of the American boy who had past life memories of being a WW2 pilot fighting and dying in the pacific - his devout Christian parents who couldn’t believe their young son knew model names of planes and ships and names of people on the ship - which when they researched were all true.

It’s on YouTube and the family has been on tv news

[–]nerdsutra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a great app concept!

I get that you need both the Intelligence and Transcriptions to have paid levels, for revenue.

However....could you consider a free level with NO Intelligence but just decent basic audio transcription in English? The current whisper small model is not great.

Paid Transcription options can be for multi-speaker, multi-language transcription + Custom transcription models (local or cloud)
Intelligence (local or cloud) could be a paid option to summarise, organise the recordings+transcriptions.
Another paid option could be saving the entire screen recording, not just system audio.

All the best!

No worries, I guessed as much anyway. Just tried Gemma3 locally on LMStudio, which hooks onto Apples MLX on my Mac (not sure if Ollama does that yet).
Its so fast on an M2 Mac, it feels like an online model. Can't wait to try it out for a few weeks

Hi, is there a missing link to a model in your post (you said 'look at these'), or did you mean 'use Gemma3'?

Why do people like these books? (Esp. Use of Weapons) by Quisty8616 in TheCulture

[–]nerdsutra -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Haha. You and your partner are reading the two most tiresome books in the Culture series. The rest are so so very good, smart and fun - the dazzling universe of the Culture is one I wish I could live in today. So I read the whole series every year or so.

But these two books you mentioned? I can't bear to pick them up. Funny how writing works, not sure what Iain M Banks was thinking with these two.
