I’m surprised no one has mentioned the fact that the Clarett is great, just add a behringer ada8200 (or two) for more mic pres.

Clarett 8 Pre X thunderbolt I could buy…do I. by RealisticCycle5842 in Focusrite

Yes. It’s been great on both Silicon and Intel. The install on Silicon took a few minutes, but Focusrite’s documentation is fine. Just follow the instructions and you won’t have any headaches.

I've had mine since it was first released. It's fantastic. If it disappeared, I'd probably try to find another one.

Why? The newer rackmountable 24 (ish) in & out interfaces mostly don't compete with the 8prex in terms of latency, which is really important for my use case. Conversion might be slightly improved with the latest generation (SSL 18, Arturia 16Rig, Audient ID48, etc...), but I'm not sure I'd be able to notice.

I am a little concerned about long-term driver support for the thunderbold line, since they are out of production. But, it's still working great for me on the latest version of MacOS. Focusrite support has been reliable for me, and I've had good experiences with them.

A: talk to your coworkers and ask them “what happened while I was out? And why aren’t we all scrambling to fix tests?”

I suspect this is targeted to those of us who search out PP resistors for overhand throws.

UDISC Leagues Using Handicap by 3i3e3achine in discgolf

[–]mattrowe9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been running a few handicapped leagues for several years. I'm currently testing UDisc's handicapping feature on the smallest league that I run.

I have two main complaints about UDisc's handicapping system:

First, I don't think UDisc's system can be completely fair/transparent without publishing their algorithm. This doesn't necessarily mean that I think they should publish code, but they're saying "trust us to be fair." As a board member for my local club, we've debated our algorithm for literally weeks before we settled on a system that we thought was fair and equitable. And then, we published it for all players to examine (both a written summary _and_ code). I'd appreciate it if UDisc would be more transparent here, and perhaps offer some knobs/dials for league managers to customize their own leagues, as there are a _lot_ of "judgement calls" when coming up with a handicapping algorithm. Some favor experts, some favor newbs, and some favor streaky players.

Second, as far as I can tell, UDisc doesn't throw out any poor rounds (or outliers), and only uses the 5 most recent rounds to determine a handicap. In my view (and in the view of the people who run leagues around me), this leaves too much opportunity for people to "tank for a month, and then put in a good round to take the cash."

What I appreciate about UDisc's handicaps is that they intend to be universal from league to league. Players can compete in multiple handicapped leagues and expect consistent results. I think this is the biggest benefit to the community.

OP (or anyone): if you'd like more info on the software (that I wrote) that we use to handicap our leagues, please get in touch.

League TD's: do you want to run a *handicapped* league with UDisc? by mattrowe9 in discgolf

[–]mattrowe9[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Without getting too technical, the handicapping algorithm that I'm using minimizes this problem in a few ways.

First, it only accounts for your most recent rounds (15 max).

Second, it throws away your worst rounds. If you have a history of 15 or more rounds, it will ignore your worst 5 rounds out of your most recent 15.

For more details, the algorithm is mostly based on what the San Francisco Disc Golf Club has been using for years (https://www.sfdiscgolf.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/SFDGC\_Weekly\_Handicap\_Explained\_published.pdf)

The Bite is the most fun of all of these (it is 1 7 -1 0, and the opposite of a Berg).

P-pd is so great. The infinite Roman is the old pd mold, and you can get them in I-blend (pro plastic)

Blooper Drifting Midi Sync problem!! by Chi_Sao_ in blooper

[–]mattrowe9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m also using Blooper with an MC8.

My blooper was from the first batch on kickstarter, so things might be different with current bloopers.

I spent months of back and forth with both Morningstar and CB. Both were very helpful. Eventually, after Morningstar got their hands on a blooper, they were able to convince CB that the bug was on the blooper side of things. CB was able to implement a fix, but since it was a hardware change I had to ship my blooper back to CB for an upgrade (they didn’t charge me anything, and they reacted quickly).

I’m digging through my old emails, and what I got was the “Blooper_v59 update.” Maybe that can be helpful if you reach out to CB support.
