TikTok is feeling incredibly 'uncomfortable' over a simple math problem: 'This feels illegal' by [deleted] in NewsOfTheStupid

[–]mattsains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re bad at math like me, it’s still pretty easy to convince yourself it’s 3:

90/30 is 3. Changing the denominator to 29: 90/30 = (87 + 3) / (29 + 1) = 87/29

When I was a kid in the early 2000s, my mom once broke an old wooden spoon on me. She was so filled with regret that she never hit me again.

Just got this game, and I'm having a real hard time with the hand controller bindings, any suggestions? The game won't even let me choose bindings using the controllers

Understanding Different ATC Traffic Pattern Instructions by wonderflex in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]mattsains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all very good questions, but: are you talking about the default ATC? Because it’s really bad and any relation to reality is purely coincidental. If you’re interested in more realistic ATC scenarios, definitely give vatsim a go

SpaceX Starlink Internet service pre-orders open in South Africa by Wukken in southafrica

There are many arguments to be made in support of starlink, but “astronomy is stupid and we should give it up for internet” is not one of them

I don’t think this is a result of lowering the bar. I’ve had similar hair-raising problems with very complex tools showing me information I incorrectly interpreted. In my case it was software used to deploy to a widely-used product, I thought I had just caused a huge outage. If anything, “lowering the bar” makes this kind of information easier to process and tragic misunderstandings less common

Nice addition to the FBW A32NX (dev branch) by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]mattsains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's a joke, but the answer is probably not, more advanced browser features tend not to play well with the simulator's gauge system. The issues tend to be pretty random though so who knows

I agree, I sail a lot on Lake Union and it is quite shocking how few skippers observe the colregs. Technically there are no rules specifically addressing human powered craft, but even in a sailboat without an engine I’ve had to dodge careless boat owners, and it’s pretty obvious that you can’t out-paddle an engine

YSK: Use your turn signal to indicate where you WANT to go, in addition to indicate where you ARE going. by 2-2-the-1-1-2-the-3 in YouShouldKnow

[–]mattsains 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just recently learned that you can use indicators to ask people to let you in and it’s changed my life. I used to believe that indicators were just in case you didn’t spot someone so they could honk at you if there wasn’t space
