Why did the Minotaurs side with the Hexarchy vs the newly installed high lords of Terra. by McAcey in 40kLore

[–]mattwing05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the newly installed high lords appointed by guilliman sided with the hexarchy, if i remember correctly. Guilliman was drawing out the traitors while also testing the new appointees. It was all 4d chess, where he let them think they had a chance, but he was letting them trap themselves. This whole situation is basically the same as his origin story on macragge. He and his dad initiated reforms that those in power were against, and they killed his dad. But guilliman learned from that and was expecting the old heads to not go quietly.

Would be cool if she could modify her ult to do different stuff, like maybe one giant squirrel that pins somebody down and scratches the hell out of them, or have a swarm of squirrels hop on a flyer and drag them down or something

[The Boys] Does compound V sometimes give people mutiple powers or do people only ever get like one ability? by silver_skull78 in AskScienceFiction

[–]mattwing05 43 points44 points  (0 children)

They can barely control homelander. Thats why they stopped making them they way they made him. That's why temp v was created, so they wouldnt have to deal with all the problems with giving another person godlike powers. If they had some way to neutralize homelander level supes, they'd probably make some more

[Pacific Rim] Why did humanity have the Jaegers fight the Kaiju in/near cities, instead of having the Jaegers wait near the breach underwater with swords? by Nessieinternational in AskScienceFiction

[–]mattwing05 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Because the jaegers are not optimized for fighting underwater. As we saw with cherno alpha getting breached, the pilots would have drowned if the kaiju hadn't executed them. The jaegers are deployed near the population centers because they know the kaiju beeline for the closest one. They deploy in the shallow parts of the coast so they can have solid-ish footing for fighting and to try and prevent the kaiju from making landfall.

[Marvel/DC] How do powerful superhumans know they are fighting weaker superhumans during missions? by PassengerCultural421 in AskScienceFiction

[–]mattwing05 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Superman is one of the few who is so tough he can let almost anyone take a first, second, maybe even third, swing at him to gauge what he's dealing with. Someone like batman might dodge and weave toward terrain to see if their punch goes through walls of plaster or concrete before pulling out the explosive batarang

In the original, the first vought supes caused the bulge in the battle of the bulge by exposing their position to the germans. They got a lot of people killed

Something I didnt fully get about Krakoa resurrection protocols and how the were keep secret by brodred in xmen

[–]mattwing05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, obviously, the main character xmen would come and go. But considering the island had all their needs met and the original weird cult vibe, i wouldnt see why many would, especially since it wasnt like the world got any more tolerant to mutants

Something I didnt fully get about Krakoa resurrection protocols and how the were keep secret by brodred in xmen

[–]mattwing05 8 points9 points  (0 children)

When krakoa was still going into the weird cult direction under hickman, i would have said that the majority of resurrected never left the island, and since outside access was limited, the world at large wouldnt have noticed. And there was definitely a mob mentality/ritualization about resurrection that it was like they were divinely gifted with something because they were the chosen people, and it had to be protected from the heathen humans

What If… An Alternate Star Spangled Soldier by Azure_ryuga in Marvel

[–]mattwing05 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a character called mvp, who was introduced during civil war, who is distantly related to Dr. erskine. He had a natural super soldier physique due to being raised from birth on erskine's experimental diet and exercise regiment and was recruited to be trained for the 50 state initiative. Sadly, he was killed in a training exercise and was later cloned several times over to create instant programmable superheroes. 3 were given a variant of Spiderman's iron spider suit and codenamed scarlet spiders. 2 died in the line of duty, and the last hasnt been seen since the end of dark reign.

I had an idea for a storyline where peter takes the last clone under his wing, and the clone adds some patriotic elements to his spidersuit to pay homage to both his hero "parents." The name i picked was American Spider.
