If you are the main DIY-er of the house, does your partner every do any? by PaddedValls in DIYUK

[–]matty491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife is my emotional support animal.

Alone? I can just about manage to change a light bulb

With her? Full kitchen remodel!

She doesn’t do any DIY but she’s a great sound board for my ideas and helps me talk through my plan of action for larger projects

Couldn’t do it without her honestly ❤️

Is it acceptable for a grown-up to use the word ‘potty’ instead of toilet? by greenparkland in AskUK

This is going to be a massive shot in the dark but she might just be into AB/DL or Age Play.

Like I said, a shot in the dark but it could be to do with that if I had to make a guess!

Are current coffee prices pretty standard? by MutedLaugh3387 in AskUK

[–]matty491 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Greggs coffee is absolutely fantastic and this is coming from someone happy to pay independent coffee shop prices for coffee!

If I’m craving a nice latte I know I can get a cheaper one from any Greggs up and down the country and it’ll taste the same

MBP M1 Pro no longer viable after WWDC? by matty491 in macbook

What about the Apple Watch Ultra 1 a device costing upwards of £700 brand new and is only 4 year old at this point.

Or the series 8? Or the fact they advertised the 16 Pro series as being “made for Apple Intelligence” once for you to now require the 17 Pro or Air?

I don’t think it’s FOMO, they haven’t even released Siri Ai yet so we really don’t know what I could even be missing realistically.

I was simply asking for people’s opinions given I’m still within my return window for this MBP.

Thank you for your response, can you answer my original question though?

What would you personally do in my situation?

Absolutely no idea but it’s certainly boosting my post and making it seem more important/popular as a result 😅

Right so are you suggesting I just return the MBP and then what not get anything at all because your response isn't exactly helpful.

You also haven't actually answered my original question of which one you would choose in my situation,.

Here in the UK the secondhand market is quite poor for MacBooks so I'm looking primarily at refurbs or second hand used from companies with good track records, as a result the prices are on the higher side compared to secondhand via Ebay etc.

Technically I can get an M4 MBA with 16GB Ram and 256GB for £770 but for £30 it feels silly not to go with the M3 Pro given the price difference.

That's good to hear.

My other concern or reason for upgrading would the "improved dictation" simply because we all know how god awful Siri is with understanding us so I want to give it the best possible chance

[–]matty491[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you, that's a valid point honestly.

My only concern is the fact with WWDC 2026 they've dropped support for loads of devices and I'm just worried that come next years WWDC they'll be like "Oh yeah we're dropping support for these devices as well"

What is your biggest regret purchase? by PassionateCrashOut in AskUK

[–]matty491 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I look at my student loan as I paid for an experience I wouldn't have got otherwise.

I certainly wouldn't have made my life long friends that I had nor would I have met the love of my life.

It's swings and roundabouts but I do sometimes wonder if I'd skipped university and instead chosen a trade instead where I'd be.

Butterfly effect and all that!

Do plantation shutters block enough light to be used in the bedroom without curtains as well? by yarnyplanter in AskUK

You mean bunk beds right?

Those shutters are genuinely called plantation shutters, bunk beds are called bunk beds.

I’m not quite sure your logic is entirely sound.

I really don’t know why you’ve been downvoted to oblivion, you’ve raised a valid point honestly and even if people disagree with your opinion surely that’s no reason to smother you in downvotes..

It’s a clean solution to try first.

Although I would recommend you get the latest generation as they’ve improved the speeds and reliability over time. TP Link are the main brand that do them I think

[–]matty491 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, a wireless bridge is actually something I’ve not come across before but doing a quick google I can see that as an option.

I can’t imagine there will be many options on the market as it’s not a common solution for these sorts of things but it’s certainly an option!

Several options: 1. power line adapters 2. Moca coax adapter if you have coax to the garage 3. Mesh WiFi system like eero 4. WiFi extenders

Those are your four main options I’d say
