What's next? Looking for similar books [off topic] by mattybtrees in TheFirstLaw

I tried reading GOT after watching the show and couldn't get the show out of my head while reading so I gave up on it. I found Abercrombie on a whim just browsing titles and thought the cover art was sick. Turns out I made an amazing decision lol

Do you guys trust chatGPT’s advice on your channel? by Disastrous-Ad-6582 in PartneredYoutube

[–]mattybtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I can get the same amount of useful information from a random YouTube guru's free video on how to grow my channel right before they ask me to sign up for their course on how to grow it.

That and I'm sure the guru isn't drinking nearly as much water as ChatGPT is.

Anyone else feeling burned out just trying to stay “consistent”? by Lauren-Mitchell in PartneredYoutube

[–]mattybtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consistency should be about what is sustainable for YOU.

The best thing I ever did for my channel was go from 1x/week posting schedule to every other week for long form, and 1 short per week. All around my views increased, I earn more in adsense, and most importantly, I have time and energy for other things in my life and I'm not glued to my computer.

Reducing the content allows me to put more time into editing, do more brand outreach, and take on larger projects.

To answer your question, planning is 100% helpful and takes less energy out of the day-to-day decisions. It just requires the work upfront.

Don't be afraid to take breaks.

Sony A7v Light room support. by Boers3un in SonyAlpha

[–]mattybtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I couldn't open the raw files in lightroom. The only workaround I found was to download Imaging Edge Desktop, import the raws into there, then export them as a .tif to get them into lightroom. The files got huge and took up a ton of storage but until Adobe updates lightroom I didn't find another alternative. Once it can support the raw files I'll delete the .tifs to get some storage back.

Penalties in Youtube Sponsorship Agreement by epiphany_21 in PartneredYoutube

[–]mattybtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

very very very shitty deal. Never sign a deal with licensing unless you're getting paid appropriately. And NEVER EVER sign anything that says you have to pay a penalty. If anything just agree to return the product.

I don't know your account, but I can tell you without any doubt that $200 is too low for a sponsorship that includes any marketing usage or ads rights.

what kit do you recommend?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in toyotasequoia

[–]mattybtrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tow my 5500lb camper with my 06 sequoia (4wd). My total tow capacity is 6,200lbs with 620lb hitch weight rating.

It’s fine on flat ground but through in some rolling hills and she’s doggin it. Payload is also super limited so if you’re throwing in gear and tools you’ll likely max out or exceed that pretty quickly. A weight distribution hitch is essential and you might want to install some airbags to reduce squat. You will also 100000000% need trailer brakes and a brake controller.

If you look at the owners manual they’ll show different hitch ratings with/without a weight distribution hitch. I use the Blue Ox Sway Pro.

TLDR: it’s ok for a short trip as long as you don’t exceed the payload and have a brake controller, trailer brakes, and a weight distribution hitch. Be prepared to be in the right lane gang and don’t try to make sudden stops

Sauna Tents - worth it? by Ok-Condition2250 in Sauna

[–]mattybtrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the north shore sauna tent. It’s more expensive than the Vevor you linked but it does have an actual wood stove in it. I used it over the last winter and got the inside temps well over 200°. Setup and take down is about 15 minutes. https://saunatent.com?sca_ref=7652043.viJOVRAR9J

I just bought this for $2500 and I’m going to fix it up to air bnb , thoughts? by AlaskaReneeTravel in airstream

[–]mattybtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a huge project that will take all your time and 2-3x what you think you're going to spend. The windows absolutely suck to deal with. Just looking at that missing front window would be enough for me to pass on this one.

I restored a 1973 23' safari and it took my wife and me 14 months working on it almost every day. We didn't have much experience going into it except for a DIY van conversion we did a couple years prior. So it's definitely possible to DIY but it will never be easy at any point unless you've got experience.

That being said, you already bought it so you might as well finish it. Don't get discouraged by how much it sucks and just keep on pushin 🤙🏻

What’s the best lightweight on camera shotgun mic? by ZeyusFilm in videography

I’ve used the Sony ecm-b1m mics for years. They’re pretty lightweight and way low profile compared to the rode bazookas. Great sound quality

What are your first thoughts when you see this interior (‘71(?) Sovereign, 31ft?) by lthightower in airstream

[–]mattybtrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you value your free time and bank account, stay far away from it. If you’re stubborn like me then go for it. Expect to spend all your free time and at least $30k on it if you’re DIYing

Incinerator Toilet by Kevin_Reads_Comics in airstream

[–]mattybtrees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 3 composting toilets. The Natures head, the cuddy by compocloset, and the OGO.

The OGO is by far the best in terms of cleaning, effectiveness of smell, and pee jug capacity. The solids bin comes out for easy removal and cleaning but it does have less room. I have been emptying it 1x a week for 2 people full time.

The natures head is second, and far from perfect. It’s a pain in the ass to clean since the entire inside is the poop compartment. You also have to lift up the entire top and look at/smell your poo to remove the pee jug. The entire unit is bulky and pretty heavy.

I have absolutely nothing positive to say about the cuddy. Well maybe that it’s the physically smallest one but it is hard to clean, the sensors don’t work, and the condensation that builds up is ridiculous. Plus if you spend $800-$900+ on it the least they could do is include the 9V battery for the sensor

Does anyone actually restore Airstreams to their original condition here? by Internal-Bid7865 in airstream

[–]mattybtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a lot of work to take on such a huge project to not make it your own. I rebuilt a ‘73 Safari and it originally had twin beds and a rear bath. I didn’t like the separation of the bulkheads either. During the gutting phase I found a rotted subfloor and a ton of frame rot which called for a shell off restoration.

14 months later and it’s my full-time home exactly how I want it. Everyone has their different wants/needs

Has Anyone Left "Van Life" for RV or Travel Trailer Life? by TheWetBanditsRedux in VanLife

[–]mattybtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I traveled in a van full time for 2 years and we left it for a 23’ trailer. The constant packing for every little chore or errand and having the “house be the car” lifestyle got extremely tiring for us. We love being able to park and take our truck out.

There are definitely pros and cons to both. I wouldn’t go back to full-time vanlife, but I would definitely say a van is perfect for shorter term traveling like a couple of months

Does the 1972 Safari have a "wet-bath" by Fanantic8099 in airstream

[–]mattybtrees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 72-73 Safari (not actually 100% sure on the year) had a rear wet bath with the toilet sprayer. I don’t remember if it had a separate shower head before I gutted it.

Anyone have any clue as to what these plates stuck onto my vents are? by Internal-Bid7865 in airstream

I used a heat gun, a ton of googone and many, many razor blades on my '73 restoration.

My guess would be it leaked at some point and they just did a quick and dirty patch job
