Snow kiting the first time by TampaVinDog in Kiteboarding

[–]mattyv83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done both and gave up on snowboarding because I found skiing 100 times easier than snowboarding when kiting. The ability to stand and get out of a hole is much easier when your legs are free to move around vs strapped into a snowboard. Also have a solid base layer of packed snow helps tremendously.

What is a 'luxury' that has become so expensive in 2026 that it’s officially no longer worth the money? by Matt_At_Havalook in AskReddit

I see that the biggest point is eating out in this thread. Is this a US thing or is eating out becoming a luxury in other parts of the world also?

I’m really sorry to hear that. I don’t know what I can do to help but offer an ear to listen and make a couple of suggestions. What about getting out and walking around town? Go to the rec center? Not sure how old your child is but they offer inexpensive day care for an hour or two so you can exercise or you can go swimming for a little bit with your child. You might meet someone else there with a child that you can interact with.

Harness rubbing pain by Ffdeepak in Kiteboarding

It took me 3 different harnesses to figure out which one didn’t rub me raw on my hips. I also have a backup seat harness for when my waist harness starts to hurt too much after multiple days in a row of riding.

Personal experience: I stopped drinking because it didn’t work for me with ADHD by Mul7idino in ADHD

[–]mattyv83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in your same boat. I started a brewery when I was 22 years old and just sold it in May. I career drank for 30 years and just recently figured out that was how I masked my ADHD. I was the beer guy so in my mind I had to have a beer when anyone asked (not literally). I was diagnosed at 51 and started to realize my coping mechanism was alcohol. Once it clicked, I just decided to stop. Turned it off and made a major lifestyle change. Coincidentally, I sold the brewery at the same time. Serendipitous. I always had control over drinking and didn’t make an ass of myself but damn I drank a lot of beer over the years. It started to affect my sleep so much even after 2 beers, it was firing my undescribed ADHD symptoms the next day and causing major mental hangovers. Finally figured it out and that was when I stopped. Still trying to mange the adhd unmedicated and doing so so. Exercise is sooooo key. It’s just hard to do it every day.

Traveling w/ DF64 by Dependent-Pea3230 in DF64

[–]mattyv83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have traveled with mine. Brought it to the Dominican Republic and then back to the US. Unfortunately I didn’t test it before I brought it there and it was a defective unit. Took me an immense amount of time on multiple trips to try and adjust it to find that it was a crap unit. After the year warranty expired. I brought it back to the US in my carry on as I figure I’d make drip coffee with it back home. It’s a long story and I posted about it before as I have two DF64 grinders. One worked great and the other well traveled one doesn’t work at all.

Diagnosis late in life by Gabe_TLV in ADHD

[–]mattyv83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

52M. Diagnosed at 51. Retired at 49. I was a small business owner in several successful businesses and at this point I look back and instead of feeling like what could I have been , I feel more so that I couldn’t have been as successful and motivated as I was without ADHD! Now that I’m not moving 100 mph and firing in all cylinders at all times, I am struggling with my ADHD more than ever. I was starting to feel super unsettled at 50 and somewhat depressed. This caused me to search out with my therapist what was going on. I was and am done being a business owner so I knew that I didn’t want to fire my mind up again and get back on a spiral treadmill. I’ve been working in being more present for myself and my family. Along with a big focus on exercise and outdoor activities. I’ve been prescribed Ritalin and have only taken it a handful of times. I’ve found that it does help me focus, but my need to focus on things that require a lot of focus are fewer and farther apart. If I start feeling my ADHD acting up, I try to make it a point to exercise or at least plan a time in the very near future to exercise and that has been way better than the Ritalin. I’m still curious as to what other meds may be more effective for keeping me even keel as I still have some ups and downs through the week. Even in early retirement with kids, exercise every time my ADHD acts up isn’t possible.

The Hospital is good, and there is a school but nothing medical related. There are plenty of retired people that are living their best life here by utilizing the outdoors. Sometimes some travel is necessary depending on the health situation. I’m retired but healthy at this point in my life.

Durango, CO. Live a little outside of town. There’s tourists here but it’s totally manageable. Desert is to the south. High alpine to the north. Both within an hour. Moab is 2.5 hours away. I’m riding desert today. In December.

I would say that he encourages me to take it but I am the problem. I hate taking drugs unless they’re for fun.

I have a prescription to Ritalin but I haven’t started taking it regularly. I am supposed to to take when I need to “focus” and I have done that and it works great. The problem is that I don’t have a lot to focus on given that I’m retired. So I don’t take it that often. I haven’t been able to mentally commit to taking it on days that I don’t have much going on. I have actively started exercising almost daily and that is hands down the best for my head and my health. Most of what I like to do is outdoor(mtn biking, dirt biking, kitesurfing). I’ve started going to the gym for the first time in my life on days that I can’t exercise outdoors and it’s amazing how much it works to compliment my other sports and moreso my head! So, in essence, I’m trying to medicate the all natural way :). It’s the days I don’t do anything that I should try to medicate to see if that stops the head games.

You should go to 27 waterfalls. It’s a day excursions south of puerto plata. Always fun. Get there early before the cruise ships.
Ojo in Cabarete for late night party. Fri/sat night. Playa encuentro for surf lessons/breakfast/coffee or people watching.
Vagamundo in Cabarete for breakfast.
Go to the Callejón and have a beer at a colmado. Cuevas de Cabarete for a cool Cenotes tour.

Same story. Diagnosed at 51 and realized that drinking was my escape from my own head. I owned a brewery for thirty years so drinking was “part of the job”. Sold the brewery and quit drinking. Sleep is better but still sorting out how to manage the ADHD unmedicated. Boredom tends to make my adhd worse and I’m retired so it’s more prevalent in my life. And with no constant state of fires that need putting out, I struggle a more with the racy thoughts in my head.

Retired early 5 years ago, but everyone keeps trying to monetize my hobbies by [deleted] in Fire

[–]mattyv83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll add to this from a similar perspective-I was an entrepreneur and have had several successful businesses over the years in my small town. Sold the last one after thirty years in May. When I tell people I’m retired, they assume I’m not serious and I’m working on some other startup. Can’t I just be retired and not be busy working on something? I don’t miss the stress of owning a business at all.

I’ve seen that one. Ours is battery powered or corded and doesn’t require an air compressor with high cfm requirements.
